Can't play household, checkmark remains grey

Hi everyone

I seriously hope you are all having a better gaming experience then I am. I am having serious problems with my sims 3 game. 

When I want to play a household in Islo Paridiso, the family is selected but the checkmark remains grayed out. Can;t seem to find the solution for this and EA is no help. This only happens in Island Paradise, and not in my other towns. Whats worse is I can't send my sims to university so my game is 100% unplayable.

If anyone might have a solution or any advice, you'd be my absolute hero!

I seem to have sorted out the grey checkmark problem by saving under a new name . Thank you for all the help

Has anyone else experienced problems with sending sims to uni in Isla Paridiso world?

I rally think the problem is in this world because none of my sims there can go to uni, and I higly doubt everyone is corrupt as I have never had this problem before in another world.

Phoning EA tomorrow, will get to the bottom of this.

Island Paradise has it's own set of problems with routing errors and stuff.

There's other suggestions as to what to do to help Island Paradise be more playable. But I am totally not finding the link at the moment. If I find it before someone else posts about it. I'll edit my post to put it in.
