Some burning StoryProgression questions - RESOLVED

Hi, ok. This is my first post here. Community here seems more friendly than the official forum. Anyway, I got some questions about StoryProgression.
I've skimmed through the FAQs on their site, but I've had trouble understanding certain things, which is why I'm registered to ask here.

1. I want to be able to disable the possibility of aging/old age death/moving out, for certain inactive Sims, but have it enabled for the others. Is there options? I'd like to learn in detail about them.
2. Is the StoryProgression mod "bloatware" of the base mod itself? As in, would it start lagging my game and stuff? From what I've read, it's a massive mod. I know the mod is divided into several sections, but just want to know about the actual base.
3. What are the risks to my Sims if I ever decide to remove the mod and its "plugins"? I know all about the 'make a backup of your saves' thing, and know how to do so.
4. Does EA's default Story Progression have to be enabled for this to work?

Basically, I want these "pardoned" inactive Sims to be able to skill up (especially skill ups. Getting tired of them not being able to on their own), find jobs and go to work as if my active Sim does, and eventually find ladies and get married and have kids, and then let me decide on moving them out if their house gets too crowded.

Welcome to our Forum, Benie!

Are you talking about all of these things happening with Sims in other households that you don't control?  Or do you mean Sims in your household?

As for your question, it would be inactive (don't control) Sims. NPC's. Guests/Friends, and the like.
Say for example, I want to allow non-controllable Sims to move near me. Yet not allow other Sims I specify to move out.

Ok, I see.  I'm afraid I don't use mods myself, so I don't have an answer for you.  I do know that EA Story Progression is practically non-existent except for it bringing new families to town.  A lot of players use a story progression mod just to make it interesting.  I don't blame them, really, but I'm keeping my game clean because I mostly play challenges.  We do have some people who are quite knowledgeable about mods, so hopefully someone will come by soon who can give you some information.

Hi there Benie! Welcome to the Forum! I'm very friendly with Story Progression Mods (in particular, NRaas) and I will do my best to give you the answers you seek! I can't promise you all the answers, but I'll do my best to give you the ones I can. Let me boot up my game so I can actively dig through my Story Progression Mod with you. I will also let you know that my mod knowledge is based entirely on NRaas' Story Progression.

1. I want to be able to disable the possibility of aging/old age death/moving out, for certain inactive Sims, but have it enabled for the others. Is there options? I'd like to learn in detail about them.
So I booted up Agnes Crumplebottom in Sunset Valley, fresh game. Story Progression is turned on, I go through the menus of startup and then I click on Agnes>Nraas>Story Progression>Sim Options>Click on Death:Allow Aging, that will highlight and when you click the Checkmark it will change that to false, meaning she will no longer age or die from old age.
I ran over to the Single Mom's household with Agnes and clicked on Molly French (who was a YA and not in the active household) and was able to use the same thing by clicking on the Sim in question>Nraas>Sim Options>Death:Allow Aging and set that to false.

Story Progression is it's own mod, the original version of the Story Progression (known as "Story Progression" in this case) is it's own mod. You need nothing else to run it or for it to work. The other "addons" to NRaas mods are ways to help expand the original story progression in ways that original does not (as in, leaving inheritance for other Sims when an inactive Sim dies would be part of Nraas' Story Progression: Money) so you can customize it to fit the kind of town you want. The base provides basic Story Progression, it will ensure that townies travel, complete skills, level in their careers, seek romance, etc... but if you were to add Story Progression: Romance/Skills/Career it would simply expand the options you have and allow for more customization and options. Does it slow down the game a little? Yes it will, and on lower end computers it may cause lag. It will definitely cause lag in population-heavy places (like Bridgeport) or towns that are normally a pain (like Isla Paradiso) with routing.

3. What are the risks to my Sims if I ever decide to remove the mod and its "plugins"? I know all about the 'make a backup of your saves' thing, and know how to do so.
You run the risk of causing some error logs to start to bloat up your game, as it would with any other mod/CC removal. This can cause bloating and lag on some occasions, other than that if you do it cleanly enough (disable the Story Progression in all saves before removing it) you should have minimal problems.

4. Does EA's default Story Progression have to be enabled for this to work?
By default, when you open your Save with Story Progression now in, it will prompt you asking if you would like to turn on that version of Story Progression. Clicking the Checkmark, thus turning on your Mod will automatically disable EA's story progression in favor of the Mods.

By the sounds of it, NRaas Story Progression is right up your ally. The Add-Ons I have that allow me all of those things (and cause minimal lagging to my game) are Career, Population, Relationship, Money, and Skill so I can customize everything I wanted in Story Progression to the full extent.

Hi there. Hmm  Nraas mod is a lot of fun but you need to relax a but when using it, micro manage everything and you will be lost tinkering and testing it for hours. however to lay back and watch the stories just unfold into chaos and insanity may leave you dismayed. I like this mod. So let's see if maybe we can reach a happy middle.   If you really want your best friends family to stay across the street from your active family so that their kids can grow up with your kids, just click on your best friends household > nraas> lot options > ancestral and then click to make sure it reads "true" .

This should in theory keep the household within the family bloodline if a sim unexpectedly dies, gets married off, or wants to move.

For example, many moons ago I found a lovely home that I wanted to keep but not play in. Currently in my town, a young adult sim third generation African French , Nicholas Bergeron, whose bloodline I have never played , decided on his own, that it would be very fine indeed if he stayed at his grandparents house, mooching off his Dads child support payments, since he refuses to get a stable job, and what does he do? In that huge house? Fills it up with 6 dogs. Needless to say the house is within he Bergeron bloodline, but Nicholas is in trouble. What sim is going to move in with him, to a house that stinks of dog? Like I said, I have never played him but his dad is a good friend of the sim I am currently playing :) so I hear all this through gossip, it's a really fun mod especially with the money and skill attachments.

I'm truly sorry I hadn't seen this response!
There should be a setting for Moving under certain conditions and I'm very sure you can set that to false.

The base Story Progression works, but I would encourage Skills, Career and Relationship add ons as they seem to fit the marks you're aiming for. I use Money, but that's because I like my Sims to get loans and have children whose parents die while they are young be passed to another family member rather than sent away. Little things like that.

Thank you all. This is just what I needed. Do have a few issues, but I've reported them to the proper forum.
