Grandmaster Challenge II: Bishop Takes Another Head Kick!

Grandmaster Challenge II: Bishop Takes Another Head Kick!

Goal
Try and be the player to achieve Grandmaster rank in chess and Grandmaster rank in the Martial Arts Tournament in the shortest amount of time.

General Challenge Rules
The General Challenge Rules always apply. If applicable, exceptions will be noted below.

Specific Challenge Rules
  • Create 1 Young Adult Sim (Vampires, Genies, and Werewolves are banned—other life states are fine).
  • You may not add to the household.
  • All travel is restricted to China. You can take more than one vacation.
  • In the event you cannot advance in the chess or Martial Arts Tournaments (NPC’s not showing up, etc) please contact the team via PM. Save your file often, especially before going on vacation.
  • This challenge ends when you have achieved Grandmaster rank in chess and Grandmaster rank in the Martial Arts Tournament. Write down the exact time from the game clock in your home town and while on vacation and plug the info into the spreadsheet. Make sure to give us all the info so the team can double check your score.

Scoring

It all comes down to the total minutes it takes your Sim to achieve both Grandmaster titles. LenaLJ came up with a spreadsheet to compute your final total in a snap (thank you so much, Lena!). Just plug in how many weeks, days, hours, and minutes (and if your finishing time was AM or PM) into the appropriate cells in the pink section of the spreadsheet for your Town Time. The spreadsheet will calculate your total Town Time at the bottom of the pink section.

Then, plug the necessary info for every vacation you took and the spreadsheet will give you your total vacation minutes in the purple section. When posting your score make sure to not just give us the minutes, but all the information so we can double check your result. Write down your Week/Days and exact time of the day for your Town Time when you are finished with the challenge. You also need to report the exact time you left for each vacation and of course the final time when you completed the Grandmaster title in the Martial Arts Tournament.

Town Time — When you no longer need to play in your neighborhood, pause the game, mouse over the game clock and note the Week and Day. Then jot down the time of day also. The pink section of the spreadsheet will give you the answer. Note: You are not done when you simply attain the Grandmaster title in chess because if you still have to return to China, then the clock is still ticking — the Town Time is noted when you leave town for the last time.

Vacation Time — When you no longer need to be on vacation, pause the game, mouse over the game clock and note the Day. Then jot down the time of day also. If you need more than one vacation to attain the Grandmaster title in the Martial Arts tournament (there’s room for four vacations in the spreadsheet), then report the Day and exact time when you used your phone to Return Home for each one. The spreadsheet will give you the answer in the purple section.

Total — The spreadsheet converts everything you plug in from both sections to the total minutes at the bottom in the blue cell.

Example: You finish on Week 2, Day 4, 11: 56 PM. That’s your Town Time and that’s exactly how we want you to make your post for your score — Week 2, Day 4, 11:56 PM. Then you need to list each vacation you took and the exact time you finished a vacation (either the time you called to Return Home or the time you attained the Grandmaster title).

So, in this example you took two vacations—the first ended on Day 4, 2:45 PM when you used your phone to Return Home. The second ended on Day 5, 1:37 PM when you finished the Martial Arts tournament. So, we want you to post your score like this—

Town Time — Week 2, Day 4, 11:56 PM
Vacation Time — Day 4, 2:45 PM + Day 5, 1:37 PM
Total — 26178 (minutes)

Ch-Ch-Changes
The team does not want to edit and make changes to the ruleset once this event goes live, but we may have to. This seasons’ events are shorter and the team has less time to test potential loopholes. If an exploit is brought to our attention or we discover something else we reserve the right to ask affected players to redo their effort.

Have Questions?
Please think hard before you ask in the challenge thread because it may be strategy. What you may consider an innocent question could cause another player to go — “oh, I did not think of doing that.” It’s always safer to PM everyone on the team (Metro, ratchie, Nutella, and Blackrosea) for clarifications. Thanks.

Thank you for the challenge, it appears that it'll be fun. Thank you also to Lena LJ for the spreadsheet

I'm presuming that we aren't restricted to two weeks in our main town in this challenge?

No, this is the type of event that is a speed challenge — complete x as fast as possible, however long it takes.

If you have reached a rank in Chess but not in Martial Arts...do you stop the clock in the hometown.  Or does the clock run until both are complete.  I'm waiting for mood buff to end to travel again, and I think the clock is still running at home but wasn't sure.

First of all it sounds like you have started your file. Or are you just practicing? The challenge does not officially begin until March 1. Anyways, whenever you are done in your hometown and are no longer "there" then write down the time. I do not want to explain any more than that. If you are still confused then PM the team.

Sorry Metro,

I was just practicing.  I haven't started a scoring file I know the challenge hasn't started yet but I thought practicing was okay.  I think I understand I'm just having a hard time knowing when to stop the clock or not.  I think I've got it now though.

I want to clarify the Town Time and how you end up writing down what exactly is indeed your final time. Someone PM'd us and had the notion that if they finished the Grandmaster chess title but still had the moodlet preventing them from going on vacation would they just write down when they got the chess title and ignore the additional waiting time? No. Your Town Time is however long it is in your town, not just when you attain the Grandmaster title.

Interesting to see this challenge recycled.  ;D
I play The Sims 4 for fun, so I don't care if I never end up being interviewed for the Dynasty Hall of Fame; people who play for keeps burn out too easily and don't enjoy playing the games, so I am going to not sweat the details.

I wanted to clarify the Town Time rule before someone potentially made an error, so here we go —

Edit: score removed.

Metropolis Man has given me permission to resubmit my score due to a misunderstanding about an official rule, which we PM'd about.

Rachel
It's Saturday March 1 in Texas, and I spent a few hours playing while my son napped.
