Vehicle Enthusiast trait
« on: September 08, 2010, 09:41:45 PM »
I didn't see this anywhere else, so...

I updated my game, I do not have Fast Lane SP installed on my laptop, but I made a new Sim with the new trait.  I was able to name my car, just like in the description but so far I do not have a relationship with my vehicle.  I have driven it all over Twinbrook,  one side of the town to the other, many times.  I read other places that it is unique to the new stuff pack.  Anyone else try it out yet?  I plan to try it later on my desktop( Fast Lane is installed there), but not sure when that will be.  Would love to hear what you have seen.

I gave one of my Sims this new trait in a Mid-Life Crisis.  He was able to name his car, but besides that, I haven't seen anything at all new.  I thought he would at least get some kind of moodlet while driving, but nothing.  Maybe he'll get something driving an expensive car.  I really don't know.  At the moment, it seems a waste to me.

gerrr00, I can't report about "regular" cars yet. My Sim's been driving his Fire Truck around quite a bit, but I'm not sure if the "vehicle enthusiast trait" even applies to the Fire Truck versus the "civilian" cars.

I suspect EA wants you to spend a lot of time driving the car before anything special happens. And even then I'd be surprised if anything happens other than a "Love this Car!" +10 moodlet or some-such.

I had a "townie" move in with my Sim and they did not have the new trait, but they did have a high relationship (Best friends) with their car which they brought along (Non FLS car). As far as I understand the new relationship thing is just to get an extra friend, nothing more. The trait simply makes it faster/easier to develop that relationship. I don't think there's any new moodlets in the stuff pack.

I have had no luck so far in either naming my cars or seeing them as my Sim's best friend.   :(
I have a family of three and I gave the father the new trait using the 'Midlife Crisis' action.  The father and the mother both drive cars they have had prior to Fast Lanes.  The daughter (a YA) drives one of the cars from the pack.
They have driven to work, to shopping, to picking up all their real estate monies etc and even from one side of town to the other - still no naming or friendship.
Am I impatient ( ::)) or did at least the naming of the vehicle take awhile for everyone?

I made a new Sim with that trait.  I was able to name her car right away.  I had her spend one whole Sim day driving from one part of town to the other, but never got a relationship for it.  So I still have no idea how it works.

Hmm - maybe the naming doesn't work for older saved games  ??? .  Thanks Gerr00, I'll try it tonight with a new game.

The new ability for a Sim to develop a relationship with their vehicle isn't Fast Lane specific, but if you don't have Fast Lane then you would need to be patched up.

I am both patched up and have Fast Lanes installed.  The daughter (a YA) drives the classic convertible from the pack.

I have the patch but don't have Fast Lane yet.  My Dynasty founder has "Best friends forever" relationship with the car he stole from Agnes Crumplebottom.  He hasn't named it, but the option is there.

OK, it has to be something in my saved game then.  I will try it tonight with another saved game.  If it still doesn't work then I will create a new game just to test it out.
I don't really care if I have these options or not, I just want to try them out - lol!  Thank you to all for the help.  ;D

@mtglady:

Are you clicking on the car itself?  That's how the naming happens.

Yes Pam, I tried that.  And the Sims have that car as their preferred vehicle(s) too.

If you name your car and than change your trait by midlifecrisising into something else, will the name of the car still remain?
And can you only rename cars that ar a sim provity or also other cars on your lot?
Can you rename bicicles to?

I had to drive back and forth across Twinbrook about 30 times before I got a relationship with my car (with trait) and the relationship didn't show up until I got back to my home lot, then it popped to BFF.  Haven't been able to get a relationship without the trait.
