Settling in the future
« on: January 20, 2014, 06:12:49 PM »
Hey
I have a household which used to live in Sunset, but that town world became incredibly laggy for some reason and despite my best efforts, I couldn't repair it. Soo as I was thinking, eh, time to export household and start anew with it, I made a last desperate attempt by evacuating them into the distopian future. And there is absolutely no problem there! Maybe that world is just constructed better, or it's because of the simpler layout. Anyway, my question: is there anything preventing the household from just settling there? There are no visa restrictions like those in the WA worlds, and I am thinking of editing a school and a few more career opportunities into the city's layout, seeing as how there are only two careers in the world of tomorrow...
Thanks in advance for any input.

PS: On a side note, do I have to unequip plumbot trait chips if I decide to relocate the household to a fresh new world, in case they get swiped away in the process?

I'm moving this to the Into the Future board, where it fits better. :)

Oh yes, sorry about that, I didn't realize at the time of posting that this sounds rather EP specific.

I don't think there will be any problems, other than that schools don't work well in the future. I think a better solution would be to move them to a new town (either by copying them to the library or by moving them in game).

If you copy them to the library you could save their house and move them with it, which could be neat it you have put a lot of work into the house. This way you get to keep your family and have a new clean game to play in. If you move them to another town in game they won't be able to bring their house, but can take anything that fits in the family/personal inventories.

The reason I suggest another move first (you can then go back and live in the future if you wish) is that the core file will be buggy, so any time you want to return to the past, the game will be "unplayable".

On the plumbot question, it would be safer to unequip the trait chips, it's not hard and can save a lot of troubles.

I have no lag in my current IP, at least not anything that would make the game unplayable, but the loading time when in OL is definitely like one tenth of what it is when in Isla Paradiso.

Thank you saltpastillen, I will give it a go and see if it's satisfactory. And Serenity S., My problem is quite severe, I spent more then half my sims 3 time waiting for the game to unstuck.

It could be you have too many items in use, (large house with a lot of items or people), or have edited the town so there are too many people or buildings.  I remodeled SV at one point and made it just the way I wanted it with lovely houses full of things and more people and all the different kinds of buildings with all the different kinds of jobs.  It was unplayable then because of lag.  The reason we get the lag when we add too many people, buildings or things is the game has built in limitations for both people and buildings, and each item we add, no matter how simply, means the game has to identify and render it.  Even if you clump things together or overlap them still each item is counted by the game and it slows everything down.  I'm not saying it very clearly but it is something you learn when you start using CAW.

As for schools not working well in the future, I think it depends on where you put the schools and which ones you choose.  I put a school, a grocery store, arboretum and vault of antiquity, (all of them are rabbit holes), on one lot in the area where all those greyed out houses are.  I bulldozed one of the empty houses to obtain the lot and used the school and grocery building from Lunar Lakes so everything would fit.  I had 15 children attending the school from grammar school to high school and from both Oasis Landing and the little greyed out village area.  This was in the Utopian future.

The grocery functioned just like a grocery would.  I could buy my lottery tickets there and not have to go back to the normal world.  I checked the city hall records, then bought a ticket and voila, won a million without every leaving the future.

The only problem with owning a house and living in the future as far as I can see is it messes up your time traveler opportunities.  They wind up in a loop and never complete.  I've not tried getting a job at the grocery store or school and haven't tried any other buildings that could have jobs.

Well, Joria, I did some testing and eventually exported the household and started anew with it.
As in your case, the school, stores and venues worked fine. But I had no access to most careers - only the self-employed ones worked well, and the interactive careers from Ambitions were available but bugged.
Otherwise, before all this I used stock Sunset Valley, so the cause couldn't have been the same.

I just tried to get employment and found the same as you.  No jobs, part time or otherwise in any of the normal rabbit holes.  I put in an elixir consignment shop as my Sims in the future are both fairies and I wanted to be able to consign my elixirs and buy supplies.  While the store is attended, (by a robot), you can neither buy nor consign anything there and I imagine it would be the same for a regular consignment store.  Next I'm going to try setting up Showtime venues and see how that works.  I know you can't Simport from there but perhaps you could still have a career in show biz.  We'll see.

I didn't say it before so WELCOME to the forum!

Thanks :)

By the way,  I have regular and potion consignment stores, and they are both functioning properly. Maybe it's situational, or you forgot to make the lot type Community/Consignment store?

PS: Other limitations I found out are that you can't make simbots, and you can't make a sim move out of the household without editing it.

I have put a school into the future in my saved game, but haven't brought my kids to the future yet to test it out so I can't say whether or not it works for me. However, if I ever wanted to 'station' my family in the future, I wonder if I could live in the future as I would in any other town? I like the idea of adding new employment opportunities to the future, and figured that I could have been a doctor in ITF, but that isn't an option. Of course, I would be worried that it would mess up my saved game if I started messing around with the schematics of it anyways. Has anyone had any success with adding new employment opportunities and venues from the past?

If your plumbot racks up 10,000 lifetime happiness points then they can buy the "Change Lifetime Wish" reward and you can select any wish you want for them.
