Problem moving house
« on: September 06, 2010, 10:55:08 AM »
My sims have out grown their current house. I built them a new updated house on a bigger lot with all the space they need. However, when I use the move option on the phone, put all the family into the new house, pack their furniture, click the tick, agree to the new house being the active household and then it starts processing. This is when the problem occurs. It doesn't stop processing. I have left it for 20 minutes and it is still processing. So I would like to know if anyone else has experienced this and fixed it or if I'm just doomed to live in the same house. Any help would be hugely appreciated.

PS. I am 99% sure it has nothing to do with the system requirements as I have only recently had my computer upgraded to support the Sims 3 and upcoming EPs.

Hey Mikeyspoons, welcome to the Forum!

I've not experienced anything exactly like what you're describing, but my Sims have lived on more than one "bugged" lots that have interfered with "normal" game-play. Sounds like the lot (for whatever reason, and there could a lot of them) is bugged.

Try this as a work-around:

  • Save the game with a new name.
  • Pick one Sim in the family, and make sure the Sim doesn't have ANYTHING in their inventory. Nuttin', Nada.
  • Try moving JUST that one Sim to the new house (using the phone).

Hopefully, at least ONE Sim will be able to get to the new house.

Once there, I'd save and quit the game, start it back up, and try to "merge" the households from the "Edit Town" screen (or have the Sim you moved into the new home call someone from their family up, invite them to visit the new house, and then invoke the "Move in" social).

Hope this works!  :)

Thank you Happytime :)

I moved the mother out to the new house which worked fine. She invited her husband round and asked him to move in. He brought the kids with him and they are now happy in their new house. They couldn't take their furniture, but hey, oppurtunity for a new start.  :)

So thanks to your advice it was a smooth move  :D

I've had this problem a couple times and I'm pretty sure it's related to either a bugged inventory item (like a seed, produce or fish) or a bugged item on your original lot.  When you check the box that says "pack furniture", that's when the problem occurs because there's some item that is bugged and you simply can't take it.  At this point, I now just place the items that I REALLY want to keep in the family inventory, and then when I move I click "sell furniture" and I haven't had any problems since.

Hope that might help someone avoid this issue in the future. :)

I also tried this before I saved and it did indeed work. I was able to take my special items and I had more money to spend when I got to the new house.

Thank you Happytime :)

You're welcome, I'm glad it worked!

One thing I always try and purchase when one of my Sims manages to take a (rare) trip to the vacation spots, is to buy two or three of the storage chests. I've found it useful to pack things in the chest just to try and keep my Sims inventory's as small as possible.

I do believe, as AriaGirl said, a lot of "bugged lot" issues are the game trying to keep Sim's inventories figured out. For Sims I've played a while, I keep the fridge stocked with some veggies or meat and cheese from the garden, and the rest in a storage chest.
