Decisions, Decisions, IP or SEA
« on: January 16, 2014, 09:40:37 AM »
When I bought IP I looked forward to all that it offered, treasure hunting under water, mermaids, sailing, and the beauty of the islands and more.
Sadly, to play the game I had to make a choice, it or SEA as my computer just can not handle them both.

SEA lost, I wanted to play IP.  Now, I guess I have to re-decide (is that even a word  :) ) my decision, which is just as hard to make   ;D .

I have been playing IP in earnest for several days.  And I am facing constant lagging, the stop and start is frustrating to where it is affecting my enjoyment of the town.

It is the ONLY town that I am having that problem in, and I have been trying different suggestions I have read on the thread discussing the problem, still no help. The more time I spend playing, the more lagging I get.

So, do I keep IP for all that it brought, even though I can't play there?
Or uninstall it and re-install SEA, which I could play and I miss the aliens and some other aspects of SEA.  Not the stupid rain, that I am glad to not have to contend with, but it is nice to have just the one seasons, not worry about my sims freezing, or catching on fire because of the heat.

So, I get the "fun" of weighting the pros and cons of the two towns, which is not going to be easy.
"Sigh"

When I had SEA installed I had the rain off, set the temps to one that I preferred in the summer and winter, enjoyed the spring and fall, just bought several Bony's to rake the leaves for me  ;D so my sims didn't spend all their time doing so.  The festivals were okay, some aspects were nice, some were boring.  I liked the variety it added in some areas and loved the aliens, they were fun to deal with.

IP has the fun of the boats, windsurfing, the kids like to play in the sand and even though there isn't any diving, spawners can be set out for the collectibles and so they can be hunted up.  I love the plants, the clothes, houses and such that can be used in any town, houses can be saved to bin and be used in other towns.  Sims can also be saved and used in other towns to add new faces to them.

What I lose in IP is the change to do scuba diving, to hunt for treasure, find the hidden islands and other actions that are limited to that town.  But, after doing that a while, finding the treasures, the islands that my sims can't live on due to the lagging, what good is it to find them, except the finding of them.

What I am going to have to do is create a list, pros and cons of both expansion packs and see which one I prefer.

which is going to be a royal pain the rear to do

Does your game still lag when you launch it through the game selector (where you can choose which expansions to use). If not maybe it's just to much for your computer to run all your games. Also, it will be a great way to check if turning of  a certain expansion will solve your problems.

not exactly sure what you are asking.  I have an icon of games, it has a list of all the games I have on my hard drive.  It shows all of the sims games, base, WA, IP and SN.  The others I have DV, AS, MV and RV are store worlds, and don't take up that much room.
Anyhow, I just click on the IP and it brings up the launcher and I go from there; I don't log in, just go straight to the game.
I really think it is just too much for my computer, it is old, and it was bought for college, not gaming, so has limited graphics and such that are needed for gaming.
Looked yesterday and I am almost at the limit of what I can have on my computer; there is no room left except for a couple of the cheapie games, Luxor type.

IP is the final town for my project story, I am going to move my family there, get the heir married and move them to another town to finish the requirements.  Then I will make a final decision of whether to keep it or uninstall it and reinstall SEA.

Do you use Origin?

My game kept freezing and the only way to get out of it was through task manager and a hard reset.  It would also stop working when I would try to exit, again requiring a hard reset (I always save first and then exit so it didn't really affect my game other than frustrate me).

I removed ITF, Seasons, Pets in an attempt to get my worlds to work.  I also removed many of the store worlds that I'm not playing.

Issue didn't resolve.

So, I read somewhere...here?  That you could play the game without being logged into Origin.  I have long suspected that my issue was being caused by a firewall violation due to Origin doing something that was triggering my anti-virus program.  I logged out of Origin and the freezing stopped, the crashing stopped.  My game still lags a bit in IP but I can actually play it now.

I, personally, don't like Seasons.  I can't stand the aliens, I get really irritated that it rains and snows in the houses.  Pets drive me bonkers (does the entire town really need to adopt one?).  So, I wasn't all that concerned about removing them.

However, I think IP is just so pretty and I love it.  I love everything about it and wanted to play that world again.  I was able to play back before I started buying store content and getting more EPs.

Anyways - try seeing if there is some sort of conflict with Origin (I started playing last October so I have to use Origin).  I also went in and deleted the Scott family, moved the Ithaca (spelling?) family to another home and deleted their home, and removed some trees that were causing a routing issue by the Romantic houseboat.  Oh and I removed all parking spots and all spawners since I like to put them where I want them and don't need extras causing lag when they reset.

Hi Janna,

I love the idea of a pros and cons list for the expansion packs and then decide from there. Great idea!! :)

I was talking about this tool/mod that I learnt about in the Tournament General Rules thread
Quote
Sim Game Selector 3.0 is a helpful utility available from Mod the Sims that tells the launcher what expansions to load (when planning strategy for a given event you may decide certain expansions would do you more harm than good) and is approved for the Tournament. It is not a mod and does not change your game in any way.

I had no experience with this until it was mentioned there and I decided to try it out in case I needed it for tournaments.
