Downloading a game from Origin. - DLC compatability problem
« on: January 13, 2014, 10:39:47 PM »
I've bought Into the Future from Origin and I've just gone to install it but it says that there is a 'DLC compatability alert' because the base game wasn't installed through Origin. This is because I bought the physical disc for this game but it is registered on Origin. It's now asking me to uninstall the base game and then reinstall it through Origin.
So, I have 2, well 3 questions actually (!) about this. Firstly, as I didn't buy the download version through Origin but actually the physical disc will I actually be able to install it this way anway? Secondly, surely if I uninstall the base game I will need to uninstall every EP and SP (i have them all  :-\) or else it won't work properly will it? Finally, is there a way round this whole uninstalling malarky?! Thanks!

Hi simmum.

Whenever you register your hard disk on the Sims 3 site, you are then able to download it using Origin.  This applies to the base game, as well as all of the expansion and stuff packs.  As for uninstalling all of the expansions and stuff packs, you could try doing just the base game and see if it will work.  If it does, then you're good to go.  If not, you haven't wasted much time with just the one re-install.  In this situation, I don't know if there's a way around the uninstalling malarky.

Thanks Pam, I'll give it go just uninstalling the base game and I'll see what happens. I've bought a few of the EPs as digital downloads in the past but they've been from other retailers and I've never come across this before. Fingers crossed the game will work with just the one install as the internet speed here is so slow I'll still be reinstalling everything this time next week otherwise!!

You can actually just skip over that message by pressing the "i" (information) button and then using the download button that appears there. More information at crinrict's site: http://sims3.crinrict.com/en/2013/09/dlc-compatibility-alert.html

The message is something you can ignore because it's perfectly fine to mix DVDand origin versions of the EPs/SPs.

Thanks for your reply NonaMena, I'd been meaning to come back to this post but have been on holiday so apologies for the delay. I read the same thing on the Sims 3 forum but sadly and extremely annoyingly I had already uninstalled all of my games and am slowly going through the process of reinstalling everything again  :-[ . I tried just uninstalling and then reinstalling the base game but that messed up the game. My stupid fault really for plunging in at the deep end without properly reading up on it first.....
