This is what I found out.
Desktop performance for Windows 7 Aero  5.1
Gaming graphics 3D business and gaming performance 6.3

Graphic card is ATL (I think it is an  L or an I) Radeon HD 5450
has a 3571 MB Total available graphic memory

So, I am gathering that my graphic card is a Radeon HD and that the graphic card is geared more for business than gaming

Most of this is Greek to me, I get the gist that my computer isn't able to handle any more than what I have for the expansion packs, but store worlds are okay, as they don't demand a lot of work.

It seems from what I gather (correct me if I am wrong) that I can have AS and RH both and they won't affect my computer's performance.    There would be no problem in playing RH with AS, it won't cause the problems like I had with both Seasons and IP together.  Three is the limit that my computer can handle with expansion packs.

With WA, SN and IP, I am at my limit and no more expansion packs until I can get a better computer.

Hi, Janna.

The processor seems to be pretty good. We have an Athlon II x4 630 from about the same time period and the Phenom chips are generally better overall than the Athlons. So, no problems there.

I took a look at a review for your ATi Radeon HD 5450 card. It's available with up to 2 GB of dedicated graphics memory. Unfortunately, it's a bit like the nVidia GT line of desktop graphics cards in that it's a budget card designed for online surfing, video streaming and other light tasks, and not for gaming. For improving your performance on your current setup, you'll need to try lowering the resolution and graphics details - turning off the Advanced Rendering in the Graphics Options can really boost performance.

If you're wanting to run everything at the highest settings, I would suggest a stronger graphics card. Along with that you'll likely need a new power supply as Dell, HP, and such are notorious for using the bare minimum power supply necessary.

For a graphics card, I'd recommend one of the nVidia GTX series cards, but not the latest and greatest (as that will set you back a lot of money). Instead, I'd focus on the GTX 600 series as they are much cheaper and still excellent cards. The card MrsFlynn and I use is the EVGA GTX 650 Ti and it works very well. The 1 GB model should also work fine.

Granted, these are a bit overkill for Sims 3, but they should handle anything you can throw at it graphics-wise for some time to come. :)

For a power supply, I would look at about a 500 - 600 watt supply. Again, overkill, but you want to make sure you have your bases covered. Actual brand and such doesn't matter too much, just get something you can afford and has a decent warranty.

Ask your friendly neighborhood computer geek (sounds like your son would be a great candidate) to install the components for you and to help you shop around for prices.

Hope this helps, and happy Simming! :)

Thanks for the info, glad to know that someone understand the Greek language of computers   ;D

When we get our income tax return money I will have my son go and pick out the needed stuff, he knows a lot about it, just doesn't have any interest in working with it.

He is a strange geek kid.  Medicine is his main interest, LOVES to watch anything that involves the medical field.
I say kid, but he will be 30 this Jan.  It is just hard for me to think of him as that old, he is my "baby".    ;D

I'm happy we could help. :)  I used to not be interested in digging inside our computers, but then getting to help Hubby with upgrading ours I found it pretty fun.  He's still more the computer genius than I am, but some of the knowledge is rubbing off on me.
