I've been playing The Sims 3 Pets for PS3 for a while and I know you can play the game without pets but I wanted to experience the game without pets.  Since The Sims 3 has been out for a while and pretty much hard to find in stores now I asked for it for Christmas.  I saw it really cheap on amazon.com so I figured it would be OK to ask for.

Are there any major differences between the original game and pets on console?  I mean I know the layout and the map will be different but I mean stuff like furniture you can buy, things to add to your house, creating sims, etc.

Basically, should I know anything in particular before I play since I'm basically going backwards.

There won't be much difference, game-play wise other than there won't be any mysteries to solve. And There's no screenshot function in the Sims 3.

There will be less goodies to choose from in Build/Buy mode. The object catalog is based on Sims 3 Base game and World Adventures for the PC.

I haven't played either for quite a while now, but there are fewer skills -no inventing for instance. Karma works differently too. Every midnight you have to kind of hold your breath and see what happens. I do like the town though. I has a summery feel and it's well arranged.

I found Pets had more in the way of gameplay ie inventing table, ghost hunting, the challenges to unlock the houses etc. Sims 3 is more basic, in my opinion, but doesn't have the colour issues like in Pets. But you'll enjoy having a different neighborhood and new neighbours (although I got sick of always living across from the Idaho's lol).

Yes, there's basically two house to start in, the one across from the Idaho family and the little yellow one across from the park with the bigger lot. It's funny how different Marie Idaho can be from game to game.

Thanks everyone.  I'm excited to try it even if it's basic and has less stuff.

OK so I got the game.  I am sort of annoyed that the objects you have in Pets you have to unlock in the base game.  I realize going from Pets to the base game is going backwards.  I do like how you can unlock different stuff such as the maid, pizza delivery, etc outfits and I do like how the town is bigger.  I wish there were two graveyards and I don't see a Goth Manor.  Is there one and I am just missing it or did they call it something else or not add it?

I don't know, I just fee like I like pets better.  Yeah I'm a little disappointed but I play it sometimes because I asked for it for Christmas and I don't want my parents to feel like they wasted money--even if they didn't pay $60 for it.  I mean it was something I wanted and they wanted to make me happy.

I'm pretty sure "The Clique" household is in what is supposed to be in Goth manner.  I can't remember who is in that house offhand, except for Rain Leary. I can picture them in my head, though. They look like they could be some sort of descendants of the goths, the way they look. Also there are graves on the that lot, which may be the remains of the goths?

That's cool.  Thanks for that info.  I am also not too impressed about doing some things to unlock Karma. I know that in Pets you had to earn karma points and stuff and each tier you unlocked you got to unlock another tier, etc.  However, for the one where you each a bunch of simoleons you have to have 35,000 simoleons for your household.  OK so in my opinion you don't need that big load of cash if you have that much in your household.  I mean, I mostly use it in the beginning when I'm making a house so if I run low on funds while designing I can get more and do what I want but I couldn't in this game.

I looked around all the houses and don't see any houses with graves on the lot.  The only place that has graves, from what I can tell, is the family cemetary (not goth but something different).  Maybe it's different on console than pc.
