Typically means that an actual game announcement should follow soon.

I'm actually a bit surprised it took EA until late June of this year to reserve that domain!

It's more likely it's just EA is just shaping up, and preventing cyber-squatters from grabbing the domain and charging them a few thousand dollars in a few years (versus just paying the domain fee and letting it sit bare for a three or four years).

Interesting. But, my money is on no Sims 4 announcement until Sims Medieval is released next spring. You never know. But, at that point Sims 3 would be probably halfway through its life with 3 expansions in the bag and it would make more sense to announce Sims 4 then.

If you scroll down a bit on the whois in the first post, you will eventually see the line:
Creation Date: 09-apr-2003

According to a tweet from SimPrograms, www.thesims3.com to www.thesims10.com has been bought by EA for ages: http://twitter.com/simprograms/status/22526700733

And before you ask... no, The Sims 10 is not coming next year :p

Wait the Sims 4 doesn't it take like a minimum of 10 years before they start making another one?

Personally, I'm going to stop at #9. I figure by that point EA should be doing pretty well and won't need any more of my money.

I think I will stop at the end of 3 because you will probablly need and even more powerful computer for those and I can't think about those costs.

Hi Belle, welcome to the forum. Nice picture btw. :$ Normally it will take 4 years before a new game will be released. You're maybe confusing this with the 10 year aniversary.

And mostly the costs of computers stay the same, only the capability will increase. Example: a computer that was capable of running The Sims 1 10 years ago would probably be even expansive as a computer now, capable of running The Sims 3. Only this changes a bit in my country: back than we had different money. :P

If they're smart, they already have the domains registered for Sims 5 and Sims 6.  It's inexpensive to do and critical for marketing.  They've probably had Sims 4 in the works since Sims 3 was released.  They can't afford to sit still even for a moment.

I wonder what would happen if I get the first domain EA hasn't registered yet. Sims 7 or something.

Wowsa. :)  Thanks for pointing that out.

It's been a while since I did any forensic analysis on a domain name (there I times I check when I'm unsure of the bona fides of a particular website / person / this-or-that I see on the intarwebz. A quick "whois" is a good way to do bit of research).

There was a time when I thought the worst reference a person could provide in a discussion or argument was, "I saw it on TV."

Now-a-days, it's become, "I saw it on the Internet."

They have all domains up to 10 right now registered. I agree Pam it is very smart that they did that. I have heard of people getting them before the company could and some companies will pay huge amounts the have the domain name they want! Which makes sense really because when you are looking for a company website the first thing you try is the company name. Anyways I forgot where I read that they have up to 10 registered right now.
I wonder what would happen if I get the first domain EA hasn't registered yet. Sims 7 or something.
So whoever it was you would have to get 11 and sit on it for quite a while yet.

Then EA will buy you out around 2025 or somewhere like that.
Or they will simply force you to sell it. ;)

How? If I want a website called thesims11.com, then that's my business, not theirs. There is no copyright since sims 11 hasn't been produced yet.
