Furniture for storing items?
« on: December 08, 2013, 04:27:24 PM »
I am trying to find an object I can buy in "The Sims 3" that can store items. Exactly like the chests from World Adventures but I was wondering if there is a normal object I can buy in "Buy" mode that I would be able to put all my random Sims' items in.

The alchemy display cases (supernatural) can store many items, but not all, elixirs can only be placed on the shelves for example.

Items that can be placed inside are gems, metals, rocks, paintings, music boxes and nectar (most items found in the consignment store) and books.

Tombstones also store well in an alchemy cabinet, as well as collectables, samples from the Science skill, and meals (they might go bad, but I once kept ambrosia in an alchemy cabinet, and it never spoiled).

I'm pretty sure that anything that can go into a World Adventures chest can go into an alchemy cabinet.

Along with prom pictures, school activity trophies and the diploma when they graduate from school. Most things can get stored by opening the shelf and drag the items over in it :)

I think Amano is looking for something that doesn't require a particular Expansion Pack, just something that can be purchased separately from the store. The alchemy cabinet comes with Supernatural, right?

Yes it does. I don't know of anything that can be bought in the store that uses that storage function.

But if you want storage you could always build a basement with no stairs connected to it, that way you are the only one able to access it, no sims and no repoman :)

Repomen can go down to a basement without stairs, though. They just teleport. But normal sims can't access a basement without stairs.

Oh, wow, fear the Repoman, eh? XD

Actually I am pretty perplexed with the game's lack of storage objects, I don't mind if the alchemy cabinet is from Supernatural, but I was hoping I am overlooking someting and there are other objects that store items, specificaly it would be sort of weird to store trait chips in an alchemy cabinet, why wouldn't EA just add more shelves/cases/cabinets? :)

Personally,

I don't like the alchemy cabinets, I have had twice items disappear from it, and not when moving; they just vanish.  One I had a lot of stuff, gems, metals, elixirs, gem dust, elixir potion books, the skill books and much more.  All of them lost.

I have yet to lose anything from the WA chests, I put my sims books, gems and other items in them and so far so good.
