Canine and Feline Lifetime Happiness boosting suggestions
« on: December 03, 2013, 03:47:16 PM »
During my last few games, I've noticed that my pets don't seem to get a ton of wishes, and that mood bonuses are also a lot scarcer (No well-rested or great meal moodlets without a LTR [Which you can't get until the pet's already got a fair amount of lifetime happiness points] or gourmet pet food [Which, while useful for regular games, is banned in dynasties because it extends the pet's life]). I usually only see the "Find a Gem/Rock/Metal/Bird/Whatever" pop only once, as well.  So, does anyone have any tips on how to get wishes to pop more often for dogs and cats?

Social interactions with Sims can also pop some wishes, like "Sniff ____" or "Hiss at ____"/"Bark at ____" will pop up often enough if your animals socialize a lot with Sims. The hunting skill (maxing it) will give a great boost to your LTHP. It is hard as a pet to get wishes, but oftentimes your pet will wish for simple things, like for dogs: "Eat the Food!" when they get hungry or for their toys when their scratch/destruction gets low.

So, rather than top a pet's motives up before sending them out to hunt, it's better to wait until they've got the hungry/destructive moodlets? I'll keep that in mind.

I know that sounds counter intuitive (I hate doing that with my pets) but they actually get wishes for having low needs. Just keep an eye on them when their portrait goes yellow and you should see a few wishes popping up in relationship to eating/scratching/destruction. They're smaller wishes, but you'll see them frequently. It should help get a few more of those happiness points.

I just noticed this same thing happening in my most current file with pets.  I've got two adults and two kittens and one of the adults suddenly stopped having wishes.  I haven't played it since then, so I don't know if they might start firing again or not.  It's making me wonder now if maybe it's a bug that EA will have to fix.
