The Shine is Blinding
« on: August 30, 2010, 03:39:15 AM »
I don't know how to fix it, but it seems like everything in the houses I'm building (textures) end up shiney adding to the milky window issue, but not limited to the windows.  Paint has a shine to it for Pete's sake.  It's like all the walls are done in super high gloss enamel, and they coated the leather couches with it at the same time.  Is there any way to fix this?  Or do I just make everything the flat wall texture in a nice dark black and pray that my sims don't crave sunlight?  I can try to upload pics of this if it's needed for people to see what I'm talking about.

Please help.  :'(

I have no idea on what to suggest for your issue.  I certainly hope someone with more technical training to help you with this.  Good luck and welcome to the forum!

Is it only in your saved games or does it also happen in a brand new game?

If it happens anywhere, you might use the launcher to disable all custom content temporarily and start a new game to see if it is fixed.

If you are also having similar graphic weirdness is any other games, you might need to update your graphics card drivers.

Have you turned down the brightness or contrast on your monitor?

Perhaps I should have been more detailed in my issue.  I don't use CC in my game, just expansions and stuff packs.  I don't even have anything from the store.  When I first place wall paint, it's pretty and I love the color.  When I first place windows they're nice and clear too.  As I continue to build, change camera angles and so forth, it develops a sheen, then eventually progresses to a glossy shine like some of the metal "skins" available and the windows develop a yellow "milky" appearance.  I'll try to post screen shots soon.  It's not my graphic card.  I actually didn't get to play sims3 for a long time because my old graphic card was too advanced for the game (the official stance from EA). I replaced my computer and had to swap out the graphic card with an older one just so the game would run.  I have seen other people complain about the milky appearance of windows in the game and I believe my issue may be related or the same, but since I use darker richer colors on my walls than the typical pastels or whites, the problem may be fully presented and not just limited to the window appearance?  I'm just guessing here, but it does seem to be a texturing issue that's making all surfaces reflective.  So, is there a way to turn this down or off?

I have that problem too, I think some more helpful information is that it is only on a few items, not everything (at least for me.) Is that what your problem is too Seriphina?

Yes, it's not everything.  Pretty much walls, the leather couches, and the windows so far.

For me it is the dining tables and ,like you, the windows. At least it isn't that common for me. Just like once a week I notice it.

I have had this same problem. Walls and windows. Windows I can take it, but sometimes I think there is something wrong with a particular part of wall, but its only that its shiny. Its annoying, but I have come to accept it. And through playing, I forget its there. It may have something to do with graphics, I don't know.

Quite sure it's your graphics card.
