The day finally arrived for Kory to bid the Nesbit family Adieu.
The family came running. But someone was obviously missing. Eta.
From the far side of the house she ran as fast as her legs could carry her.
She arrived just in time to see her father leap into that horrible box, for all eternity.
Kory begged for one more day. Just one more day with his lovely wife and his beautiful little girl.
But it was not to be.
Without any prompting from me, Delta's sympathies took over and he tried to comfort his great-granddaughter. But she wasn't going to be consoled by a hug. No, a hug wouldn't fix anything. A hug wouldn't bring her father back.
At least, not a hug from Delta.
The ashes were placed next to Kory's portrait.
Alpha went back to making Ambrosia for the rest of the family. But for some reason, he stopped and cried for the loss of Kory. Not just for Kory, but for every mortal who had the misfortune of entering this house. Sure there was love, and plenty of hard work, but the heartbreak that ended it all hardly seemed worth it anymore. The Ambrosia that night, I'm sorry to say, didn't taste nearly as sweet as it usually did.
