Sims name plates?

Hi guys!

I recently installed The Sims 3 and all the expansions (apart from Seasons) and when I hover over certain Sims, a different coloured box is displayed with a silhouette of a face with an accompanying number. This only happens for some Sims, and I was just wondering what feature this actually is as I can't find any info about it anywhere. Thank you!

I think your talking about the University Social Groups Influences. The boxes are orange, purple, and blue if I remember correctly. They basically show you the 'influence' your sim has for the social group, like the nerds, jocks and rebels. Certain actions, like using some objects or using certain social interactions, effect different groups.
