Recreating a sim with different traits
« on: August 25, 2010, 04:04:34 AM »
I've made a sim who I quite like the look of (took me ages to get his face just right) and I gave him traits and saved him. The thing I need to know, is there a way to make a copy of him, but change the traits? I made him for the dynasty challenge and he has been just hanging around waiting for me to start. What happened though, I decided I should do a little bit of planning and what I had in mind for my founder might not be the best option, so I would need to change his traits to suit the path I have decided to take. Here lies the problem. I can't seem to get a sim from the bin into CAS to modify. I know you can change traits via a life time happiness reward, but to get to that stage, he would hardly be a new sim for the challenge.
Anyone know if we can modify a sim once we send them from CAS?

If you don't mind cheating you could type "testingcheatsenabled true" into the console. Next, if you shift-click on your sim you should be able to modify his traits.

@Melissa, she is doing this for a challenge with no cheating allowed, so she is trying to find out if there is anyway to do this without cheating.  Thanks for trying to help.

Hi Melissa and welcome to the Forum!  Yes, as wildredchild said, Twinmum is trying to do this for the new Immortal Dynasty Challenge and cheating is not allowed.  You can click here to see the rules.  We also have a discussion about it here.  Maybe you'd like to give it a try yourself.  :)

Put the old sim in an empty lot/house and take them to the mirror/dresser and you can save him/her to the Sim Bin which sometimes appear in that pre-made sims bin in CAS?

Norma,

If I understand you correctly, you've made a Sim you are very happy with looks-wise, and saved a copy of him in the "Create a Sim" bin.

Now you are thinking you'd like to change one (or more) of the traits you assigned him when you created him?

Every time you "save" or "share" a Sim, a copy gets placed in the "Pre-made Sims." You can access this from a new game, or in "Edit Town" if you are playing a game. You can find and select the Sim from there, modifying his traits and saving him again.

If you'd like to make a copy of a Sim you are actively playing, just send them to a mirror to "Change Appearance." The option is there under their mini-portrait to save a copy of them to the "Create a Sim" bin.

I hope this helps.  :)

Since Happytime and I have said this method works maybe you should try that one first.  :)

Thanks guys. I had looked in that pre-maid sims bin in CAS before but he wasn't there. So I put him on a lot, went to the mirror to change appearance then saved him. Then started a new game, created a new sim and he was there this time YAY.
Thanks again. I was sure someone here would know what to do.

Oops, I missed that sentence. Thank you Pam, I would love to try the Dynasty challenge but I'm still trying to complete my legacy.
