as a developer myself, i suspect this was more likely lazy coding than intentional, randomizing the list was probably too much work for person who wrote this part of the code. But given the unreasonably short dev cycle of Sims EPs, I'm not all that surprised.

If you read the other comments above, I have to say that the consensus is that there is no pattern regarding the good and bad influences. I have also seen them in random locations. I don't think it should be put in the Guide.

Can I ask how much you (and Pope in Pink) have tested this? Because this is definitely not happening in my game. The good and bad options can appear anywhere among the four positions -- I've just loaded up my game and tried choosing all up and right option to be sure and received mixed results. The same is true for my other saves in different worlds and with different levels of advanced tech skill.

I'm playing with no mods at all.

I have been playing for a week now, with 3 different families and the position never changed in any of my games.
I'm using a couple of NRAAS mods on my game, IDK if that influecnces it.
To tell if the outcome is positive, the sim will show a circle with blue smilies and a green glow if the outcome is positive, or a circle with red angry smilies if the choice is bad. Choosing it once is not going to make it: with low AdTech you have to choose the good outcome at least 6 times to see a result. As the skill progresses you need to select fewer times; my favorite sim only has to influence once to get green snoring, but he maxed out Advanced Technology and experienced 37 different dream results.

I suspect this is due to mods, yes, that would explain it. The three of us reporting good results showing up in any of the positions are all playing without mods -- two of us have said so and I believe Pam always plays without mods.

True, I have no mods at all.  I've been watching the positions even after my last post and they still switch around.  This enough to say conclusively that the position of the influence action is random and not found in any particular spot.

Thanks you all for making sure I didn't publish anything incorrect on the Guide. I think given our ability to pause the game at will, we can still powerfully influence the dreams it's just a matter of looking at the options. Most of the good dreams seem to make sense. Can anyone say for sure that there's always a 2/2 split?

I have influenced the dream thousands of times since the game came out, and i have dreamed many difference dreams repeatedly.

I have not found any occasion where it is NOT a positive influence at "up" direction. (or "right-side" direction for that matter)

I know several guys in thesims3 forum all claimed the same thing and haven't seen anyone says otherwise.

Now, anything is possible, but i haven't seem a screenshot to say this is not the case.

You didn't provide any screenshots to back up your assertions either. I would probably be more interested in making the effort to get some if you hadn't ignored all the other posts in this thread until Carl responded -- which included three people saying their observations didn't match yours as well as some relevant questions you chose to ignore.

In case it wasn't clear, nobody is saying you are imagining this. We are suggesting that your game is working this way possibly because of mods you are using. If you're not using any mods perhaps you could say so and we can investigate further.

Ok, removed NRAAS mods (the only mods im using), cleared the cache, started a new game for good measures.

Tried 10 different types of dreams, in 3 different skill levels (0, 5, 10)

Same results every time ("up") always yield positive influence.

It doesn't really matter what anyone else says on the official forum.  I didn't need to test it thousands of times to find out that all of the options show up at all points of the dream.  I just tested it yet again and again I got the same influences showing up in both positive and negative locations.  I tested maybe a dozen times.

LordHellscream, I don't know why your game gives you specific locations for positive and negative 100% of the time after multiple thousands of attempts.  What matters is that I can disprove it in less than a dozen attempts.  In this situation, that disproof is conclusive that your theory is not valid.  I don't want to keep saying this same thing over and over, so please let the matter drop now.  :)

I've tried out a lot of the dreams now at different levels of advanced tech skill and every single one has been a combination of 2 good and 2 bad choices.

This is very interesting now because my game has experienced a change.  It no longer mixes up the locations of the positive and negative influences.  I don't know if it's something that EA changed or if my game was bugged, but now I always see the positive influences in the 12 and 3 spots, and the negative are in the 6 and 9 spots.  I don't know if it's certain enough for Carl to edit the guide, but I wanted to update this thread with my odd findings.

I wouldn't update the guide yet. When I had a sim use the dream pod about a week ago, the positive dreams showed up in any position. Maybe they start appearing at 12 and 3 after the sim has used the dream pod a few times?
