Dream for waking up is Over Powered

If you dream for "waking up", you can fill your energy need completely if you wake up immediately after getting the green z z z z.

I find this very useful, but the dream pod doesn't seem to get a rested full moodlet so I guess I need to put my sims to sleep on real beds afterwards just for that moodlet.
This goes the same with hunger, hygiene, bladder, I forgot which ones are for social and fun...but they seem to replace each other.
You can have another skill/trait/benefit dream pod moodlet to get along with these basic needs moodlets, though.

Yes i know for hygiene, hunger, etc, those are easily filled by normal mean, but energy asides from certain potions general takes quite a bit longer to fill.
Having that fill instantly is pretty darn overpowered.

What is OP?  We try not to use too many abbreviations here because many people don't know what they mean.

Pam, OP usually means "over powered" or too good/powerful to not use.

Thanks, Shirin.  Definitely not an abbreviation we want to use.

Thanks, Shirin.  Definitely not an abbreviation we want to use.

It's grown quite common in gaming, probably from online Roleplaying Games but has gone on from there. I see it in Civilization 5 now with certain gameplay features. It's definitely an acronym that's going to grow in use.

Given the options for making mood higher in the future, it does seem a bit powerful but the odds of waking with that good effect are going to be based on Advanced Tech level and not a guaranteed outcome. You can wake up with low energy if you're unlucky. While you do get it at level 7, I don't think you'll get this very often until you've got the Digital Dreamer Skill Challenge completed, which is easy but time consuming with frequent use of the Dream Pod. You'll need to use a variety of different dreams so that you can come up with the big number of different outcomes you need. There are 3 possible outcomes per dream as stated in the AT Skill Guide.

The dream pod selection for good dreams is always up or right, there's no luck involved at all. Any of those will do. Influence the dream, select the up outcome a couple of times until the snores turn green and wake up, lather, rinse repeat. The sim won't even stand up if you don't command them to, so it is very practical for a sequence.

With a high enough advanced tech your sim will *always* wake up squeaky clean, fed, with the social meter full, lucky, and with full energy. I just couldn't find a way to fill the fun meter yet. Pause the game and you get those results in a couple of sim hours.

Yes, forgot to mention, the choices to positively influence the dream is always to 12 o'clock (up),  and 3 o'clock (right), the choices to the 6 and 9 o'clock directions are always bad.

I stand corrected. Thanks, you two. I will make a note on the Guide when I get the chance about Dream Pod Influences always being good in the top or right position. I copied this to my to-do for finalizing so it'll definitely make it to the masses within the next couple of days. Cheers :)

Ok, but many of us who play Sims 3 are not players in those other games and won't recognize it.  I certainly didn't and I'm sure many others wouldn't.

Can I ask how much you (and Pope in Pink) have tested this? Because this is definitely not happening in my game. The good and bad options can appear anywhere among the four positions -- I've just loaded up my game and tried choosing all up and right option to be sure and received mixed results. The same is true for my other saves in different worlds and with different levels of advanced tech skill.

I'm playing with no mods at all.

Hi, I have to say that I don't think getting good dream has anything to do with options in any positions, but it is not hard to get good dreams as long as you always choose the option that give you blue smiley as a result. red sad faces on the opposite. Just use your common sense for each, for example, for dream of social situations, 'tongue is missing!' definitely is bad and 'calling your best friends' seems to be an happy event, just use your common sense when being presented with the options. In my experience with the dream pod I am always able to get good dream (green zzz) as long as my sim's energy is low and won't wake up too early before I have chosen the good options for about 7-8 times - regardless of their advanced tech skill. You just need to stay normal speed, or pause sometimes, and click influence dream > good option, repeat this for 7-8 times and cancel dreaming, letting the sim wake up from that good dream and get great result/moodlet. I have no mods either.

Agreed, and even if it's not obvious which are the good results you only need to choose them once to know they're wrong and it's never been a problem for me to get a good result in the end.

I've seen yet another player mention in comments to the guide that the good answers are in these positions and I've no idea where it's coming from, so I'm glad it's not just me that seems to be experiencing it differently!

As a developer myself, I suspect this was more likely lazy coding than intentional. Randomizing the list was probably too much work for the person who wrote this part of the code. But given the unreasonably short dev cycle of Sims EPs, I'm not all that surprised.
