Chapter 29: There All AlongThe day has arrived, It might have been nice to have had a party but both Grace and MaryKay would be working, so instead Grace cooked us a special meal at the bistro.
Then we bought a cake at the grocery store and took it to the Gazebo, as it turned out some of our friends did join in our little celebration as Max, Susie and Oscar were there.
Dallas really didn't want to get old, I can't say I wanted him to either but I was looking forward to not being the only old person in the house.
Dungarees are apparently the latest fashion trend for the country gent, or at least I'm assuming they must be as everybody is wearing them, even Dallas.
Back home again he ditched the dungarees for something far more flattering.
"Hmm I wonder if I can get hair dye that colour." Dallas you can get anything you want, including an eyebrow wax, how do such neat eyebrows suddenly become a pair of hairy caterpillars overnight?
A quick spruce up and he's as good as new, a little more wrinkled around the edges maybe but still my Dallas.
Both Grace and Puzzle are doing well at work and earning steady promotions, but in other matters Puzzle is easily outdoing Grace, the situation in town hasn't really changed much since they left high school, if anything it has gotten worse as the last crop of children have grown up and as yet none have replaced them.
I guess she was feeling lonely and that is why when Bob asked to meet her at the library she mistook his invitation for something else.
Bob let her down gently but she still felt a fool, I guess I should have told her about his engagement to Betty but I only just found out myself.
"I can't believe I just came on to my boss, what must he be thinking?".Dallas had already come to terms with his mothers death but MaryKay was still finding it a bit hard, a trip to the Gazebo had some rather unexpected results when she ran into the McDermott family.
In a way Max has always been there, in the background, dancing with her at our parties, even sitting next to her at school sometimes, but until now that is as far as it had ever gone, but a few kind words from Max opened a floodgate.
Before she knew it MaryKay was in his arms crying her heart out and Max just let her.
It was quite telling that he didn't pull away, even when she glowed, most of Riverview hated her by now but not Max, he was still there just as he had always been.
It had taken her a long time but finally MaryKay had found something, or rather someone, that made her happy.
