Kids not really welcomed in the future?
« on: October 28, 2013, 07:00:23 AM »
It's been pointed out that there are no facilities for babies and toddlers at the community center in Oasis Landing and I've just discovered another drawback if you want to travel to the future and live there permanently. There is no school for children. Sure you can take kids to the future and even have babies while there, but when they age up to children, they won't be going to school there. I even tried to edit the town and place a school but the game doesn't allow it. So if the kids want an education, the family will have to travel back in time to get it.  >:(

Well that is just annoying. Could a logic Sim tutor or help a child with homework to get them to an A?

I guess they could be tutored, but as they don't go to school, they don't have any homework to do. They don't get the missed school message either. Oasis Landing seems to be treated like a vacation world as far as kids are concerned.

Oh, that sucks. I was hoping to take children along but it seems I can't now - as far as education is concerned, of course.

I think it's treated like a vacation world period, not just for kids. Because when you go back home time had stopped, just like on vacation. (I don't have the EP yet, just going off what others have said)

That's my thought, a vacation world/travel destination with no time limit.

But it really is an oversight, if you can raise a family there, there should be schooling. Unless, of course, they're too advanced for it!

I added the Celestial Community School from Lunar Lakes along with a playground. My sim's twins are still infants, but I'll report on whether they can go to school when they become children. In the meantime, my sim and her husband are learning logic!

How did you add the school Marian?  I tried, I changed a lot to community, but still couldn't place a school on it.

I made it "No Visitors," but I still don't know if the children will actually go there. Off to open up my game again.

That's weird. I tried both visitors allowed and no visitors, but either way, I couldn't place a school. Be interesting t see if your kids will go.

Yes! My child just went. I sent her off as soon as it said a school bus would arrive because I wasn't sure if one would come. She had to ride her bike and take the ZEPHYR (next time I'll put the school closer to her house), but a taxi (or school bus the size of a taxi) did come for her.

It's possible that you can't place the school because the lot isn't flat enough. If you don't have Lunar Lakes, and have to use a very large lot for the school, maybe using the flatten terrain command would help.

Great to know. Not sure about the lot being flat enough, but after I changed it to the community lot and selected the school to place, the lot that I had changed didn't even appear as an option as a place to put a copy of the school. I've had a few problems with that file, so that might be why. I might go and start a brand new game and try it again. Thanks for the info Marian

Maybe instead of trying to place school as a lot from your library you could edit the lot and go to community buildings and add the school building to the lot.

Has anyone realized schools in TS3 is glorified daycare center (not even good ones), because they give NO benefits whatsoever (no skill gain, no career boost, nothing). Your sim can still pick the trait as long as the mood is high when they age.

So really, I am glad there is no school in OL.  8)

I thought that children had to have an A in school to pick a trait when they age up?
