Even though you can't have a spouse, gen 7 can still have a romantic interest or boyfriend who will be the father of gen 8.  You can still invite him over and paint portraits or do sculptures of him to be included in a gallery.

I think having art of the Mortals in the family is a great idea!  I have a painting of Amy (Bull) Nesbit and of Mindi Nesbit as well.  No sculptures though. :)

Oh thank you, Aria, for that suggestion!  Here I've been thinking what a colossal boo-boo I made with my 7-sectioned gallery, but of course you're right and it doesn't have to be wasted.

The Douglas household hums with excitement as the family gets ready for the opening night party at the Gallery.

James reaches up and lifts Nevermore off his perch and tenderly places the old raven on his shoulder.
Mortimer:  “What are you doing with the raven?  You surely aren’t planning to take him to the Gallery?!”
James:  “Aye, that I am.  With all the snobs and artsy wannabees likely to turn up at this shindig, I need someone there that I can have an intelligent conversation with.”
Mortimer, aghast at the idea of the scruffy old bird at the opening of his first show:  “But Dad, won’t people think it’s a bit … eccentric, bringing a bird to the opening night party?”
James:  “Eccentric?!  Mortimer, you were just a little lad when I first came to SV.  Maybe you don’t remember what they used to call me:  ‘the lady with the hairy knees (making fun of my kilt), who talks to the fishes.’”
Wimsey:  “Mum always said Dad was so handsome in his kilt.”
James (who is really getting going):  “Do you think I care what those gossipy busybodies think about me?  Let ‘em talk!  Most of them have nothing better to do.”
Wimsey:  “Calm down, Dad.  Mortimer, you know Nevermore is house trained and he’s really very quiet these days.  I’m sure most people won’t even notice him.  Besides, this is Dad’s party, and if he wants to bring the raven along, it’s his decision.  Now, people, lets get going or we’ll be late for our own party.”

Everyone had a great time.  Christie did think it rather odd that most of her father’s guests were her male schoolmates.

The raven stayed close to the buffet table all evening and had a particularly good time.

Great story!  But for some reason my computer just doesn't want to show me pictures anymore, so I could not see your screen shots.

Ha!  My favorite part!  Hopefully I can see the pics soon.

Hi gerrr00, thanks for the comment.  I'm sorry you can't see the pictures and hope the problem clears up soon.  There are a lot of great pictures in all the Dynasty stories.

As for the young fellows who came to the opening night party, this family seems to take a great deal of interest in the romantic lives of their daughters and granddaughters.  Maybe too much of an interest.  :D

Wimsey’s Blog:

Wow, it’s been a while since I wrote an update here.  I’ve just been so busy with helping Christie grow up and working on my own Dynasty tasks.  Those Dynasty organizers sure don’t make it easy for us!  I wish I could describe all the things we have to do, but Dad told me the details are secret, so sorry about that.  But I tell you, if I ever manage to do all that stuff, I will definitely deserve to be immortal!

My little Christie grew up yesterday.  She had her birthday cake first thing in the morning so she wouldn’t have to go to school that day, clever girl.

She decided she wanted to take up photography as a hobby, giving her the following traits:  Good, Friendly, Bookworm, Natural Cook and Photographer’s Eye.  Her father was wishing for her to be a scientist, but she has gone to work at the Diner because of her love of cooking.

But Mortimer is happy anyway, because his Young Adult portrait of Christie is his first painting worth over $4000, and a masterpiece as well.  I’m very glad of that, because my darling Mortimer is getting quite old and I worry that his time is getting short.

Of course, now that she is grown up, everyone is wondering who she will marry.  Mortimer would like to see her married soon - he hopes to have a grandchild - and Dad, of course, is insisting on meeting every boy Christie ever talks to.  You wouldn’t believe the system those two have devised.  Now that Christie is out working in the evening, James phones up one of Christie’s friends and invites him over.  Then he and Mortimer descend on the poor boy, both of them trying to see what traits they can learn.  Then on to the next victim.  They spent all of yesterday evening doing this!  They wanted me to join in, but I was too embarrassed to show my face.

I'm not sure about the picture issue, but I've had wonderful success using photobucket instead of the forum's upload service.  With photobucket you can upload ALL your photos at once, it takes hardly any time, and then it gives you the .img link that you can copy/paste into your post.  It's VERY easy!  You should try it!  :)

Thanks, Aria.  I know I should try photobucket but I'm very technologically challenged and the one time I looked at it, I gave up.  I probably should get my nerve up and try again.  Anyway, whatever the problem was, it appears to have been resolved.  I've modified my post to include the pictures.

Christie's old school chum and now colleague at work comes over to visit.  Love the kilt, Isaac, but -uh - do you always carry that rubber duckie around?

Article in the Sunset Valley StarPhoenix Arts and Culture section, September 13

PROMINENT LOCAL ARTIST DEAD AT 91

Moviegoers at yesterday afternoon’s matinee had an unexpected experience when the Grim Reaper showed up to grab Mortimer Douglas just as he was leaving the theatre.

Mortimer was the sole heir to one of SV’s first families, the Goths.  He became a prominent artist after marrying into the Douglas family, well known for their interest in the arts.  Mortimer’s first art show opened recently to much acclaim.  His final work, still on the easel, was a masterpiece portrait of his daughter Christie.  Mortimer is survived by his wife Wimsey, daughter Christie, and father-in-law James.  He will be buried next to his mother-in-law Holly in the private family plot.  His passing is a great loss to SV and to the art community everywhere.

The house is so quiet these days.  Holly and Mortimer are gone, Christie is off working every evening.  Wimsey sculpts and mourns for her husband.  James impulsively asks Rhett Fortier, a young friend, to move in, thinking it will liven things up a bit.  Next day:

Christie:  Why, Rhett, what a surprise!

She accepts.

They have a quiet private wedding.  The wedding reminds Wimsey of her lost Mortimer, and she is unable to watch.

What on earth is that awful noise?  Is James trying to sing?

With this ring, I thee wed

The Kiss

Actually, Photobucket is the preferred method for showing pictures on the forum until we're able to get a better in-house hosting service.  Have you looked at our instructions for Photobucket?  I tried to make them simple.  Click here to view.

Your story is great, by the way.  RIP Mortimer.

Christie and Rhett's wedding celebrations bring happiness to the household.

Unknown to the residents upstairs, a different kind of celebration is going on in the basement.

Troglodyte:  Yippee, plum nectar!  Stand aside, boys, I know how to get that bottle open!
