“Existential Angst - Wimsey and Sleuth”Sleuth prepares to paint Moth’s Adult portrait.
Wimsey gets out her chain saw to work on Moth’s ice sculpture.
Wimsey and Sleuth examine the finished ice sculpture.
Sleuth: I can’t believe how quickly you finished this one. And the detail is amazing.
Wimsey: Well, I’ve had a lot of practice. I can’t count how many days I’ve spent honing my skill.
Sleuth: I know what you mean. It seems like I’ve spent my whole life painting.
Wimsey: Do you ever wonder what we’ll be doing after Moth’s next birthday? I mean, all I do is sculpt. And soon there won’t be any more need for ice sculptures.
Sleuth: Yes, I know. Being the Dynasty’s official portraitist is all well and good, but what happens when the Dynasty doesn’t need any more portraits? What’s the purpose of my existence then? I suppose I could go back to working in Law Enforcement. [unenthusiastically]
Wimsey: At least you have another job to go back to. All I’ve ever done is sculpt. Sometimes I wish I had died when Mortimer did. The new generations coming along kept things interesting, but I just don’t know what will happen to us after Moth’s birthday.
