Thanks for the kind comments, everyone.  Your interest is very much appreciated.  Can you tell, I'm having a lot of fun with this Dynasty?  LlamaMama, your remarks really hit home.  As I explained above, the Immortals are named after my dogs, not human family members, but it dawned on me yesterday how much the founder James is reminding me of my own Dad, who died 20 years ago.  His name was Graeme and he wasn't a fisherman, but something about their character seems a lot alike.  Totally unintended and unanticipated.

Awesome story.  Where did you get the raven?  (Poe is one of my favorite authors.)

Thanks, Storyteller.  If you'd like a raven of your own, I got it at the Sims Store, in the Decorative Objects section.

From Holly’s Diary:

Yesterday James became an elder.  Sadly, he had to give up his beloved kilt - it seems they don’t make kilts for elders - but I helped him pick out some nice tartan shorts to wear.  Even without his beloved kilt and with a few grey hairs, he is as handsome as ever.

This morning I made Ambrosia for the first time.  It looked perfectly delicious and I was hungry, so I sat down to taste it.  James came racing in from the garden:  “No, no, no!  Don’t touch it!  What are you doing?  Do you want us all to die?”  James isn’t given to exaggerated outbursts, but die?  I was sure he was overreacting.  Then he explained that only the Dynasty heirs are biologically equipped to handle this powerful elixir.  He couldn’t explain any more than that - “something in the blood,” he believed.  Honestly, they don’t need to make a secret of this Dynasty stuff - it’s so strange, if I blabbed it all out, everyone would think I was totally insane.  Anyway, no harm done.  James ate the Ambrosia and told me I had made it perfectly.  I haven’t really noticed any change in him, but he has certainly been in a very good mood.

Now that the mad rush to perfect my ice sculpting is past I have time to fulfill my own lifetime dream of learning to play the guitar.  I am truly enjoying it and hope to perform in public soon.

This afternoon James sat Wimsey down and told her all about the Dynasty.  I was playing my guitar nearby and couldn’t hear what they were saying, but I could tell the poor child was quite horrified by some of the things she was hearing.  Well, it is a lot to take in.  I expect she’ll blog about it, and I hope that will help her to deal with it all.

And now it is time for bed.

Wimsey’s Blog

Hi everybody.  I am so stunned after that talk with Dad yesterday, I don’t even know where to begin.  I mean the talk where my Dad sat down and told me all about this Dynasty that our clan is part of.   You won’t believe it.  The Dynasty group is like this small group of families - but more are joining every day.  Each person in each family has to do certain tasks to prove their commitment to the cause.  If we do everything we are supposed to, when we become elders we are rewarded with the secret of immortality!  I kid you not.

I had to promise not to divulge any details, but there are a whole bunch of things we have to do before we become elders.  I asked my Dad, “Well, what if I don’t want to do all that stuff?  What if I just stay single and don’t have any kids?”   (One of the things is we have to marry and have a child)  Dad just looked at me and said “Well, Wimsey, in that case our clan would be out of the Dynasty and we would all be terminated.”

Wow!  No pressure, eh, Dad?  Well, I wasn’t seriously planning to opt out of the Dynasty anyway.  I just like to be clear on what my options are.  Actually, when you think about it, it’s kind of neat, sort of like this is my destiny or something.  When I told Dad that he smiled and said “That’s exactly what it is, Wimsey.  Your friends may drift along from day to day, but if you choose to stay in the Dynasty, you will have to work hard and always focus on your goals.  Do you think you’re up to it?  It won’t be easy, but your mother and I are here to help you.”

So now I’m thinking about my goals and my life ahead in a new way.  I feel special, like my life has real purpose.  The only thing I’m not too sure about is Dad’s idea of helping me look for a husband.  “Dad, this is Sims3, not Sims Medieval - no arranged marriages, ok?”

But nothing stops my Dad when he gets an idea in his head.  He was fishing in Central Park this morning when Gunther Goth died.  See these two guys in the picture with Dad?  Mortimer Goth on the left and some unknown guy on the right.  As soon as Grim left, Dad started chatting up these two guys and telling them about me!  Really!  Oh, Dad …

Ha ha! I  can't believe he did that! You should have Wimsey marry Mortimer because he is rich and may bring some more money to the household...

Yes, Beddy, Wimsey is going to have to start thinking about who she is going to marry.  Will it be one of these guys her Dad brings home?  Will it be one of her school chums?  Will she marry for love, for money, or for the skills her prospective suitors can bring to the Dynasty?  Stay tuned ...

Wimsey’s blog

Hi guys.  You wouldn’t believe how busy I’ve been!  Remember those two guys my Dad met when Gunther Goth died?  Well, they both came over to meet me and a bunch of guys from school have been turning up too.  I’ll be graduating in a few days and it’s like I’m supposed to pick one of these guys, but how to choose?  I thought I’d show you their pictures and tell you about them, see what you think.

1.  This is Kelsey Fry, one of the guys Dad met at Gunther’s wake.  Kelsey is the athletic type, interested in fishing (him and Dad!), ambitious, and also interested in photography.  As you can see, we get along pretty well.  Oh yeah, did I mention he’s married?  Dad says that probably isn’t a problem, after all Kelsey wouldn’t have come running over to meet me if he was happy at home.  I guess Dad has a point.

3.  Mortimer Goth had to wait a couple of days to come and see me because he couldn’t get time off from his job at the day spa.  What’s different about Mortimer is that I felt I knew everything about him the first time we met.  Dad says that’s very unusual.  Mortimer is ambitious, loves the outdoors (something he, Dad and I have in common), is artistic like Mum, and also doesn’t like to take off his clothes.  He’s also pretty grumpy.

4.  Alejandro Carpenter.  A school friend.  Did he come over to see me or my Dad?  He is very family oriented.  Also easily impressed, absent-minded, a kleptomaniac and a slob.

There are a bunch of other guys I know from school, but those are the only ones I have pictures of.  What do you think?  Feel free to share your advice or thoughts on this.  I am feeling totally overwhelmed by it all!

I say you go with the money, honey!  Don't worry about their traits, because you can always change them with a mid-life crisis.

Again, I say go with Mortimer! He has nice traits, is rich and will get along with other family members (including Wimsey) from his traits.

Thanks, simfulicious and Beddy.  Yeah, I think Wimsey will likely go with Mortimer.  Not because of the money (although that's always nice), but because he does have something in common with each member of the household.  And Wimsey did learn all his traits the first time they met, which in my experience has never happened before.  She does have the Observant LTR, but that has never let my sims learn more than 3 traits.  It sort of feels like destiny ...

My only real reservation about Mortimer is that Grumpy trait.  I've never played a grumpy sim before and don't know how much of a challenge it will be.  Any advice?
