Dream Pod
« on: October 27, 2013, 07:58:47 PM »
I'd like to know more about this new feature, the Dream Pod. It works like a regular bed, in which you can sleep, relax, woohoo... but there's also another option, "dream about..." (I play the spanish version of the Sims 3, so I don't know if the translation is exactly this), if you select it, you can choose a dream from a list (it'll be longer when you maximize your Advanced Technology skill). When you wake up, you will receive a moodlet and something will happen. It can be related to certain skill, it will change one of your traits for a few hours or even will change the future. Some examples are:
- Dream about high tech: You will raise your Advanced Technology skill faster.
- Dream about family: One of your traits will be replaced by "Family oriented" (not permanent)
- Dream about future: If it was a good dream, the future will change to a utopian future.
There are many more...

Many, many more and it's the holdup on my article for this right now. I am compiling it into a table for the Advanced Tech skill guide. There are some neat ones to be found, but they are based on what EPs you have installed - I'm glad they thought of that. You could dream of Supernatural and wake up in Toad form, dream of a happy life and get some LTHP but I see serious strategic possibilities for using these in Challenges to help you boost skill gains or otherwise prepare for the day ahead.

But, there's a problem. It's hard to get a good dream outcome without micromanaging it and clicking the bed to 'influence dream' until you have the Digital Dreamer challenge. You want the good outcomes. There are bad, neutral and good and the latter is hard to get. Try to influence the dream soon before your Sim finishes sleeping (a couple hours) to switch the tone of the dream to good so they'll wake up with the good moodlet.

Thanks a lot Carl, I saw your guide this morning and it's very useful (as usual). I didn't know that there were dreams related to another EPs because I have only installed Into the Future right now (with all EPs it takes a lot to load). And perhaps "influencing dream" is not so funny as it seems (I think there are two good and two bad options), but anyhow it's better than simply watch your sims sleeping. It's easier to get a good dream when you reach level 10 in Advanced Tech skill, even if you don't control it.

It's actually not that hard to get a good dream at all even when your advanced technology skill is at 1. All I did was pause as soon as I saw the reaction to my option and paused again. Rinse and repeat. The only issue I could possibly see is if you're given all negative options to choose from because time isn't an problem inside the game, unless you just don't like pausing?.

Edit: A good dream about (?)Romance gives the flirty trait along with a moodlet. I think the moodlet was feeling frisky or flirty or something like that.

I've noticed that the dream choices that pop up when you influence a dream seem consistent in that the options that appear in the 12 o'clock and 3 o'clock positions have always been good dreams, while the 6 o'clock and 9 o'clock positions offer bad dreams. This has made it easy to select a good dream outcome without always having to read and interpret the four options (after reading and enjoying the humor on the first pass, of course.)

Has anyone seen these options ordered differently?

There hasn't been any such consistency in my game. I don't think there are even always two good options.

If your sim dreams about food, will fill the hunger bar.  I thought that was kind of neat and they get moodlet. :)
Is it true that cannibals don't eat clowns because they taste funny?

It's not hard to get a good dream, just select the good option out of the four for several times, I think 7-8 times will do, see the green zzz coming up from the sim and it will be a good dream now, wake him up.
Proceed in normal speed, focus on the sleeping sim, you don't have to pause, but you'd better do this when the energy bar is not full, otherwise the sim's gonna wake up too fast.

I've noticed that specific choices always yeild the same results.

My sim wishes to dream of vacation, and I have world adventures installed, but it's not coming up in the list of dream options. Does anyone else have this problem? I'm dreaming whilst in the future at the community home, and have MC and the Dream mod that allows you to keep all your wishes in the wish queue (this is not a mod to affect dreaming).

This has been discussed in another thread, and there is definitely no connection between the type of influence and the location of the options.  None at all.

It's possible that your Sim doesn't have enough Advanced Technology skill.  As you level up in that skill, your Sim will get more Dream Pod dreams.

My sim is level 10 advanced technology. I'm wondering if it's possible that they need to have a stressed moodlet or something? I can't dream about food unless my sim is hungry either.

My sim dreamt a bad dream and gained weight - then she dreamt another bad dream and became a toad. I used the moodlet manager to detodify her, and now she is stuck in the wrong weight. (She was cured of being a toad).

Does anyone know what dream made her gain weight? I'm hoping to reverse it.

It's something like dreaming about body image and will make your sim either overweight or extremely thin -- like the two elixirs available. Usually the effects of the dream pod wear off after 12-24 hours, but I've never had my sims dream about this. Influencing the sim to have good dreams might reverse things.

Dream about body image is right.

I did the reverse thing and my sim became thinner than ever before. I tried if the moodlet manager would remove the dream moodlet this time, and it removed some but not all of them. Maybe if they are seen as positive they will not be removed?

What I learned from this is to not use Moodlet manager unless you want to make negative changes permanent when using the dream pod.
