Wow, poor Hudson! All that fire - himself, two computers...

Maybe he should just live at the fire station for the permanent fire extinguisher lol

One would think by all of the misfortune befalling Hudson that the poor guy had the Unlucky trait. :P

Hopefully things get better one he has a spouse in the picture. :) I wonder who the lucky gal will be... ;)

Haha I like Meadow already. I think she would be a healthy challenge for Hudson. Two guesses who I'm rooting for? ;)

Chapter 4: Building Our Lives From Scratch
« Reply #19 on: October 30, 2013, 01:50:46 AM »
Hudson arrived at the Gazebo, and within a few moments, the young woman he was expecting approached him.

“Hi Hudson, thanks for inviting me out, I was hoping you’d call. I’m sorry I wasn’t very receptive to you earlier, I’ve just got a lot going on right now.”

“Don’t even think about it” he assured her.

“So what was so important?” she asked.

“Well – I’ve been thinking a lot about the future. You know I have a lot of goals, things I want to do with my life – but before I could do any of them I knew I needed to find the woman who would be by my side. Well, I know we’ve only known each other a few days, but I have an undeniable feeling that you are that woman – I can’t stop thinking about you, and, well, I need you. I know this is really sudden, but — Will you marry me?”

“Oh Hudson… yes!”

Hudson knew he had made the right decision, and at the very least – life would never be boring with Meadow. He took her to the lot, and showed her where they would build their new home. They had a quick private ceremony right there, and laughed as it started raining.

“Okay Hudson, it’s time to get us some protection from the elements, because this just won’t do.” Meadow said with a smile.

Meadow arranged for a small cottage to be built on Hudson’s property. While the house was being built, Meadow went for a shopping spree to celebrate her new life, and even got a small makeover.

Hudson loved her new look, and the two sat outside watching the stars while the movers brought in their new furniture and appliances. Once the house was set up, they retired to the bedroom.

Hudson and Meadow settled into a rhythm in their first few days in their new home. Hudson spent every spare minute trying out new recipes and researching famous chefs and cooking techniques, while Meadow brought over some seeds from her old garden to start growing vegetables for Hudson’s new recipes. Once he had perfected a few special recipes, he headed down to the diner to get a job.

When he got back home, Meadow was working in the garden. “Hudson, you’ve been so busy lately, I feel like I’m all alone here. I need some company. You know we could also use some extra help around the house, if we’re going to keep going at this pace.”

So Hudson headed back out, and came home with a surprise for Meadow.

Arguing with Charles the evil chicken entertained her for a day.

“Hudson, I love the chickens, but that wasn’t exactly what I meant”, she explained the next morning.

So Hudson made a difficult phone call.

“Elaine? It’s Hudson. I know we didn’t exactly leave things very well, but I have a proposition for you and your father…”

Hudson knew it would help Norman to get away from the thoughts of his late wife, and Elaine had told Hudson what a great father he had been to her. While it wouldn’t be exactly what he had planned, having some extra help around the house would make everything easier. Elaine didn’t take much convincing, and she and Norman moved in as soon as some extra rooms had been built onto the house.

Elaine decided since the house already had a chef and a gardener, she would pursue painting as her new hobby, and quickly set to work decorating every inch of the walls. Meanwhile, Norman decided to take up fishing. He was happy to get fresh fish for Hudson’s latest recipe, and the rest of the fish made great fertilizer for Meadow’s garden. What was leftover he was able to sell at the market to help pay the family bills.

Norman also set about upgrading every appliance they brought in to be self-cleaning.

Hudson got a call from his boss about a contest going on at the diner, called “The Dish Showdown”. He entered and won second place – which only fueled him to work harder. A few days later he was awarded a certificate for “No Bills Ever” from the town hall, in recognition of his efforts to improve the diner. Soon after, a colleague called and asked if he could bring over some ingredients that Meadow had grown for them to cook with.

Hudson was so busy with work, he didn’t notice Meadow had started feeling sick all the time and sleeping a lot.

Ah, I'm so happy to found out that my guess was right! That lady Meadow! Haha *dance happily*
It seems that you have fun with screenshots here. Her makeover is lovely, but I just wonder why you change her hair color? :)
I once had Norman Joy as my Sim co-worker in Firefighter profession. Too see him here as helper just made me feel a little nostalgic about them. Well, congrats for next incoming nooboo :)

Thanks :) I just thought it looked better as light brown - I'm not a huge fan of the platinum blonde in the game. I went with the reddish-brown with dark brown "lowlights". It sort of camouflaged her freckles so they look more natural somehow.

Congratulations Hudson and Meadow! She looks so much better with her makeover, her other clothes were just hideous lol.
I actually only changed her formal and outerwear, and the accent color on the everyday dress - but she just likes to wear her formal dress all the time. Guess that's the insane trait? She will change into formal to go garden. *smh*.  I was actually going to change more but I thought the leaves theme was kind of cute, and close to what I would have picked, so I just changed the two that didn't match :)

Side note, does anyone else hate how every single EA generated "outerwear" outfit HAS TO HAVE GLOVES?? I'm so sick of going and removing gloves. I know it snows in the game now, and their little sim hands might get cold, but I don't want every Sim wearing gloves!!

I'm really enjoying this dynasty! Your writing style is very funny--and I love the way Meadow was portrayed! So glad she was chosen.

Keep it up!

Thank you!

I'm working on the next few chapters. My restart didn't go as close to the original as I had hoped to fit with my story so I had to rewrite a few chapters. Plus, it's Halloween so we took my son trick or treating :) I should have something up in a few days.

Chapter 5: Busy Busy
« Reply #25 on: November 03, 2013, 09:27:00 PM »
Before we pick back up with Meadow and Phoenix, here’s an update on what the Joy family has been up to. Since Elaine and Norman had moved in with the Phoenixes, they had hardly had time to even think about their former lives. Norman felt invigorated by the move, and divided his time between fishing, learning alchemy, and helping Hudson operate the miner they had found at the consignment store.

Their time spent on the miner paid off immediately. Both Hudson and Norman found giant space rocks, each appraising at over 14k. Norman tried to take photos of their finds, and after a dozen shots, a few turned out. The rest, of course, were blurry, mis-colored or simply photos of his thumb – but what do you expect from an old technophobe? Hudson didn’t mind, and hung his favorites anyway.

After drilling for gems one night, Norman saw a bright light coming from the hole. He went over to investigate the glowing pulsing yellow light. As he leaned over the hole, he felt his feet fall out from under him. Norman scrambled to get a grip on some firm ground, but couldn’t pull himself out of the hole.

A few hours later, he finally emerged from the hole again, covered in soot, scrapes and sweat. Norman refused to answer any questions about what happened down there, and just warned everyone in the house to be careful using the miner from now on.

Meanwhile, Elaine had quit her job to become a full-time professional painter, and quickly became very skilled. Sadly, she still felt like something was missing. It wasn’t until she mentioned it to Norman that she realized what she was missing.

“Dad, as much as I love living here, I realized I’ve been so focused on my painting and helping out Hudson and Meadow, that I forgot about what I wanted for myself. As much as I’ve tried, I haven’t met anyone in a while besides Hudson who isn’t crazy or evil. How am I ever going to have a family of my own?”

“Honey, if the Phoenixes inviting us into our lives has taught you anything, it should be that our family is who we choose it to be. You don’t need to meet another man to have a family if that’s what you want. You can find family anywhere. There are plenty of kids out there who need a family too.”

Elaine realized how right he was, and made a phone call. The next day, Prescott arrived.

Prescott was so eager to be accepted by his new family, he dove into painting with his new mother, and learned the skill even faster than she had. The two could almost always be found in the room they shared with Norman, painting side-by-side.

When he wasn’t painting, Prescott was studying or doing his homework, and Elaine was always happy to help out.

After selling off the giant space rocks and a bunch of Elaine’s better paintings, they were able to build a nice house. Hudson insisted on the top of the line appliances for the kitchen, and splurged on fantastic beds for everyone. Everyone’s favorite purchase however was the Bonehilda Coffin. Since they didn’t have to worry about cleaning up after themselves or fixing anything when it broke, they were able to spend more time on their own pursuits.

Hudson used the leftover cash to build a small cottage in the very back of the property, where he started storing his favorite pieces the family was producing.

Everyone enjoyed playing with the alchemy station Norman had bought, but Norman was the first to be struck by a backfiring potion. Fortunately he had already learned the cure potion, and was able to de-toad-ify himself right away.

Before they knew it, Prescott was a teenager.

Everyone agreed he got lucky, and was only slightly awkward adjusting to his new look. Prescott ran to the dresser to change, then went back to his painting.

Of course, every teen has to learn how to drive, so Elaine taught him, in the snow even.

You seem having fun with those collages, jesirose! It's nice combination, I liked it ;D

It's good to know that Elaina chose to adopt children; but I thought that she would be married to other townies. I just have my suspicion that you're didn't want to do unnecessary things. Well, you know having nooboo and toddler are annoying and look at Prescott, he is a time-saver and already useful when he join the party :P

Glad to know, that The Joys are happy as family. You’re kind Watcher, jesirose ;)

Welcome, Prescott! He's a very handsome young man. I love Bonehilda, only I can't use her since having a neurotic sim :[

Thanks :) Yeah sometimes when I have 4-6 screenshots for the same scene they just look better to me as a collage than just having a bunch in a row.

I totally adopted Prescott just to have another painter :) However you will see a lot of adoption in my dynasty - it's something I care about in real life and plus it's totally useful in the game. Save all the annoying time spent on romance ;)

I'd never used her before this and it bugged me that I have to put her away when the babies are sleeping, but otherwise I like her.

Chapter 6: The First Heir
« Reply #29 on: November 05, 2013, 11:02:05 AM »
While Norman, Elaine and Prescott were getting settled in, Meadow focused on her garden. But the seasons quickly turned and before she knew it, the ground had frozen and everything was dormant. To occupy her time, she bought a sculpting station and started teaching herself to sculpt with various media.

Of course, it wasn’t long before she started feeling sick in the mornings. and noticed her clothes didn’t fit quite right. She went to Hudson and told him the good news. Hudson was thrilled! He hadn’t told Meadow how much he had wanted to have a baby since she had been working so hard on her garden and sculpting. but he couldn’t have been happier. Meadow was only a little concerned about one thing.

“Hudson, you know how hard I’ve been working on my sculptures.” she said

“Of course, your work is amazing dear!” he exclaimed.

“Well, the art commissioner down at City Hall told me if I bring in just a few more ice sculptures, he can teach me how to make ice sculptures that won’t melt. What if I don’t get it done in time before the baby comes? You know after he or she is here, I won’t have as much time, and what if he forgets about me or decides to teach someone else?” Meadow explained to Hudson with a furrowed brow.

“How can they make ice that doesn’t melt?” Hudson asked.

“They have a special compound they mix up and you dust it on the ice when you’re done, look, that’s not the point Hudson. I don’t know how it works or I’d know it already wouldn’t I?”

“Good point” he said. “Okay, you leave it to me. I will make sure you finish your sculptures no matter what!”

“And just how exactly are you going to do that?” she said, throwing her hands on her hips. “You know this baby will be here before we know it, and I really wanted to be able to make you a forever ice sculpture before your next birthday!”

“Just leave it to me.” He said. “You, get back to work little missy!” He grinned, and kissed her, then ran out of the room.

Meadow shrugged, and fired up the chainsaw. Hudson had already accomplished so many things she never thought possible, so if anyone could keep a promise like that, it was him.

—–

Hudson ran off to the spare room where they had moved in the alchemy station and gem-u-cut machine. He flipped the pages of the ancient book. Norman had spent way more time in here, but how hard could it be? He found the potion he was looking for, and lit the fire under the cauldron. He skimmed the ingredients list, and pulled out the labelled jars from the cabinet. He watched as the liquid bubbling in the pot changed color with each ingredient he tossed in. He added the last one, and leaned over the cauldron.

BOOM!

The potion exploded in a steamy poof. Hudson was blown across the room.

Well, that wasn’t quite what I was expecting he thought. He peered into the cast iron pot and saw a black gooey tar in the bottom. The potion he was aiming for was bright red and light. He shook his head and started cleaning up the alchemy station.

I’ll ask Norman for help tomorrow. I guess I wasn’t quite ready to attempt making my own elixirs. Is it me or does it seem really dry in here?

Hudson finished scrubbing out the pot and put everything away, and headed for bed. Meadow was already asleep – which was probably a good thing, because if she had seen Hudson at that moment, she probably would have fainted when he shot his tongue out and grabbed a fly mid-air before climbing into bed.

—–

Hudson got out of bed the next morning and groggily stumbled to the dresser to get changed. That’s when he noticed his reflection in the mirror. Thankfully, they had all seen it happen to Norman a few weeks ago and knew there was a cure for the toad-head. Norman was happy to mix up the cure, and presented it to Hudson that afternoon, just in time for him to get to work without anyone else seeing his affliction.

“Norman, do you think I could trouble you for another favor? I was trying to make some Invigorating Elixirs for Meadow so she can get more work done on her sculpting.” Hudson said. “Do you think you could show me what I did wrong?”

When Hudson got home from work, Norman had mixed up a huge batch of the potion and left it in the cabinet for Hudson. He took them over to Meadow, who immediately downed a few and got back to work on her latest work of art.

With the help of the elixirs, Meadow finished her 25th ice sculpture, and was granted the ability to make fantastic ice sculptures that would never melt.

And it was just in time.

—–

Hudson got home from work at the same time as his very pregnant wife returned from city hall.

“Hudson I did it! I can make non-melting ice sculptures now!” she exclaimed.

“That’s amazing honey! I knew you could do it! I can’t wait to see what you choose as your first one.”

“Well, I was thinking we could do one of you!” she said.

“How about tomorrow?” He asked. “I had a really long day at work”.

“Okay” she said, and they started walking to the bedroom.

“On second thought, we might be a little busy tomorrow” she groaned, grabbing her belly.

“Ahhhh!!! What do we do? What do we do?” Hudson yelled, jumping up and down. Elaine and Norman heard the ruckus and came running in.

“Oh my god Hudson, calm down. You don’t need to do anything” She said with a sigh.

“Oh. Well… in that case, I’m going to bed. I’m super tired.”

“Seriously?” she said, glaring at Hudson.

“Yeah, you got this.”

Meadow rolled her eyes, but wasn’t able to stay upset for long.
