Phoenix Immortal Dynasty - Move to graveyard
« on: October 24, 2013, 01:56:45 PM »

Edit: I had major issues with the computer and lost all my games, I finally got all Sims 3 installed again on a different computer so I'm going to try to start over but this is going to the graveyard for now.

I have enjoyed reading everyone's stories so much, I decided to do one myself. After a lot of planning for how to do my dynasty and then splurging on more expansion packs, I finally started it. I'm putting my story on a wordpress blog (here) as well so you can read it there too.

I would love constructive criticism. I have always loved writing and this is such an interesting project, because you have so many rules to follow and you can't control every character and outcome so you have to adapt. Plus, I want to incorporate my screen captures, so it's a really different style of writing for me. So please feel free to offer advice. :)

Chapter 1: Where There’s Smoke…

The day that Hudson Phoenix moved to Riverview was fairly uneventful. He was a young bachelor with no possessions, no family or friends to cause any unwanted drama – he simply had a passion for learning and cooking, and had decided to settle down in the picturesque town on the water, to pursue his life long dream of learning every recipe he could find. The first part of Hudson’s move went according to plan – he bought the biggest available lot in town and had a few appliances delivered, along with a simple sleeping bag. He spent a few hours at the library reading books on Cooking and Charisma, and made a few new acquaintances.

Hudson eventually headed home, his stomach growling. He was eager to try some of the new cooking techniques he had picked up from his research, but his hunger won out and he settled for a simple salad.

Hudson stood on the edge of his makeshift camp, scarfed down his salad, and surveyed the view.

“Not bad,” he thought to himself, before tossing his plate in the sink and slipping into his sleeping bag. As he drifted off to sleep, he groggily recapped the day’s events in his mind, his eyelids closed heavily. As far as he could tell, his plan was working out perfectly. If Hudson hadn’t been so exhausted from his busy day of shopping, reading and socializing, he might had had enough energy to process one last thought about the quickly rising temperature in his sleeping bag. Unfortunately, his mind shifted to dreams of fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches before he realized it.

I also enjoying people stories! I can't believe that I can write one my own. It's kinda of messed up, but I'm glad! XD

You have an interesting name for Immortal Dynasty, jesirose. I love the Phoenix name! Do you have some background story for the name that you pick? Good luck with your story and as well your dynasty!

Thank you! I think making Sims with vivid green eyes is an addiction for me.

Thank you! I just liked the name, obviously there's the analogy with the Phoenix being born again and the immortals being reset to the beginning of their age, etc. I do have a big phoenix tattoo on my back, I think the Phoenix myth is really neat.

Chapter 2: ... There's Fire
« Reply #5 on: October 25, 2013, 03:08:47 PM »

The next morning, Hudson woke up in a start, soaked in sweat. His mind raced. Where am I? How did I get outside? What’s going on?

Slowly he took in his surroundings and remembered the previous day. He had moved to Riverview to study cooking – not because it was the best place in the world to pursue a culinary career, but because something about the town spoke to him. He knew the library had a decent selection of cooking books, the local restaurant had a decent chef to teach him until he outgrew their skills, and he would be able to make friends and hopefully even find a wife. Yes, Hudson knew that the small town would have everything he needed to achieve his life’s goals.

He extracted himself from the sweat soaked sleeping back, and decided he would have to go meet up with that chef at the diner and convince him to give Hudson a job. Even though he was a young man, he didn’t enjoy the idea of sleeping on the ground for too many more nights.

Hudson was debating if a suit was too formal for an impromptu interview with the restaurant manager when he realized that he was still sweating. He had thought the perspiration was just caused by his fear upon awaking outside, in a strange place. Suddenly…

Yes, to Hudson’s absolute shock, fear and dismay – he had literally burst into flames. Since apparently Hudson had never heard the “Stop, Drop and Roll” rule, he grabbed his cell phone and called the firefighters, while hopping around on fire.

Hudson breathed a sigh of relief as a firefighter ran to the scene, then a shriek of shock as the fireman doused him with the fire extinguisher. Of course, pretty much anything would feel freezing cold after you’ve just been on fire.

“You guys should be more careful next time”, the fireman said to Hudson, as he sprayed the last of the flames.

“You think?” muttered the singed Hudson, with a quirky smile.

I was so excited to see what I will see in the next chapter and then---Bwahahahaha!!
Poor, Hudson! Sorry! But, that was too funny! Bwahahaha!!
I really have a thought that he might want to try out his family name "Phoenix". Maybe he think that it's okay because somehow he will reborn again if something happen to him :P

Please be careful next time, Hudson Phoenix :)

Thanks, that means a lot to me!

Honestly I was quite scared when he burst into flames. This was the first time I'd played without building a house right away since I installed Seasons, and I had no idea that they could literally get so hot they would catch fire! And of course I hadn't bought a shower yet, and I was so shocked it took me a few minutes to hit pause so I could decide what to do! Of course, my second day with my dynasty and already things are blowing up in my face!!! But of course, it was hilarious once I called in the fire fighters. I always think the way Sims react to fire is so funny but his face after he was extinguished took the cake. Thank you Hudson for giving me a story :)

You're welcome, jesirose!

That was some experience of Hudson Phoenix! The interesting thing is he is surviving live to tell the tale for the next generation! If I in your position, I will be scared too. It’s quite an ending for the one whom just starting a dynasty story -_-

But, that was indeed a hilarious screenshot. Good job. I can't wait to see what will come to this Phoenix Dynasty. Just interesting start when your founder loves playing with fire :P

Haha darn that sun. Seasons really does make the beginning stages of the dynasty that much more interesting. I think Hudson might need a little lie down...inside this time.

Well, I had a little bug with my paintings, and wasn't able to recover it from a previous save. So I had to restart. Fortunately, I was only a little further ahead in the game than in my story, so I was able to replay it and get back to where I was. With the exception of Hudson not actually catching on fire this time, it's gone about the same. So I'm going to continue the story now, picking back up where I left off. At least now I know the right way to move the paintings - don't put them in someone's inventory and wait a while, you have to use Buy Mode to put them on the wall right away or they can disappear!

So I'll post Chapter 3 in a moment :)

Chapter 3: Looking for Love in All the Wrong Places
« Reply #12 on: October 28, 2013, 01:53:23 PM »
After the fire, Hudson was feeling pretty devastated. The firefighter, Ned Lu, assured him that he had no serious injuries, and offered to let him use the station’s facilities to get cleaned up. Hudson graciously accepted the offer, and followed the engine back to the station. While he scrubbed off the dirt, Hudson decided he would have to find a way to get some money fast, to build at least a small house on the lot. Not to mention, he was already lonely. He hadn’t quite realized how hard it would be, moving to a new town and not knowing anyone. So Hudson decided he could take some time off from studying cooking and learning recipes to pursue a romantic interest.

After getting dressed and grabbing a quick meal of some cereal from the fridge, Hudson set off for the library, full of resolve. He found a computer, logged on, and browsed to the popular dating service SimHarmony.

He had only just finished filling out his profile, when he noticed an oddly familiar smell.

“No no no no!” cried Hudson, as he realized just why that smell was so familiar – it was smoke. The image on the screen flickered and faded to black, and smoke began to pour from the vents on the side of the old monitor. Hudson threw up his arms in disgust, and turned to try another computer.

This one didn’t even last long enough for him to log on to the website. Hudson hung his head in defeat.

I guess I’ll have to do this the old fashioned way, he thought. He called up Ned, since he was the only person in Riverview for whom Hudson had a phone number, and asked him if there were any single young woman Hudson should seek out. Ned had a few suggestions…

—-

Hudson’s first stop was the Joy household. He introduced himself to Elaine Joy, a young woman who lived with her widower father. Hudson turned on the charm and the two discussed gardening and cooking, and joked around.

Unfortunately she had to take off for work rather quickly. So Hudson headed for a large house in the center of town, to meet Meadow Carpenter-Rhodes. Ned had warned Hudson that Meadow was a bit odd, but Hudson was not a man afraid of a challenge.

After Meadow invited him in, Hudson remarked on her floral themed decor.

“Oh yes,” Meadow replied enthusiastically. “There is absolutely nothing I like more than gardening. Flowers, vegetables, fruits – I just love growing anything”

“Well, I can see you are clearly very good at it!” Hudson said with a grin.

“Of course, the sad part is when they die. When my plants die I could just die myself. Sometimes I wish I were a plant. Did you know potatoes contain every nutrient we need to survive?” Meadow stared at Hudson, who started feeling a bit nervous.

“Well, you know, my passion is cooking, I bet if we worked together you could grow some amazing veggies and I could cook them, we could be unstoppable”.

“Unstoppable at what?” Meadow said, confused.

“Uhm, you know. Just unstoppable.”

“I think you’re a bit odd”. She replied, and wandered off outside, talking to herself about seeds and fertilizers.

Yeah, you too cookie. Hudson thought to himself. But a little part of him immediately felt uneasy now that she was gone. Hudson pushed aside his concerns and followed her outside.

“Meadow, are you a fan of poetry?”

“No, really just gardening. I like my guitar okay too I guess” she replied.

Uhm, okay. What girl doesn’t love poetry? Whatever, try it anyway.

“Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day? Thou art more lovely and more temperate. Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May, And summer’s lease hath all too short a date.” Hudson recited.

“Well, pretty much anything is more temperate than a hot summer day here in Riverview” Meadow replied stoically.

“Tell me about it” joked Hudson.

“I just did”.

Oh sweetie.

“Okay, you’ll like this one better – That which we call a rose, by any other name would smell as sweet –”

“That one’s true at least” she interrupted.

I’ll count that one in the ‘win’ column, Hudson thought.

“I’m hungry,” Meadow complained, and headed inside.

Hudson decided it was time to go, and, after patiently waiting for Meadow to finish making her dinner, presented her with a small token of his affection, which she seemed to appreciate.

—-

Hudson woke up the next morning and immediately called Elaine, hoping to catch her before she had to leave and he was stuck listening to her father Norman tell stories about Riverview in the “old days”. She agreed to meet him at the Gazebo in town.

They talked for hours, about everything they had in common, and everything they didn’t. Elaine also loved cooking, and was a great gardener. She also wanted to have a big family, just like Hudson.

“Elaine, I’ve really enjoyed the time we’ve spent together, and I want to be honest with you – I’ve got big plans for my life here, and I want to find someone who can help me achieve my dreams – it’s going to mean sacrifices and hard work, but I know in the end it will all be worth the effort.”

“Oh Hudson, I know you’re going to do great things. It’s just — I can’t leave my father alone right now. He’s still so broken up about my mom’s death, I really need to focus on him.”

“Don’t you think your dad wants you to be happy? Isn’t that what your mom would want?”

“We will be happy Hudson, don’t worry about us.”

“Just, promise me you’ll think about it Elaine? We could do great things together.”

“I know, Hudson, I know. I’m sorry…”

—-

The next morning, Hudson made a phone call.

“Meet me at the Gazebo? I have something important to ask you”.

Ah, you're back! With the new chapter! So sorry to hear what happened to your dynasty :(

It's weird to see what Hudson touch become disaster. Ooh, maybe because the "Phoenix" inside him, the computer even can't resist him and become overheated! That's can explain why!

Ah, Elaine! I know that lady :)

But, I still didn't know about who will Hudson choose as spouse. My first bet is that Meadow lady and Elaine and her father just will be helpers in this story and of course she will have leaded a happily lead too. But, I haven’t sure about that one. Elaine or Meadow... High chance is Meadow because she is rich and you can get huge amount of money when she moves out…

EDIT: Noooo, i have to add this to avoid wrong interpretation just looking at huge house related thing. I mean yes she is rich with gardening skill so you will get money from the money tree later :P

Hmm… I think that I have to wait next installment to find out.
