With the best friend requirement, do all the best friends have to be unique?
For example, Sim A is best friends with Sim X.
Then Sim B becomes best friends with Sim X. Can Sim B then claim Sim X as their best friend?

If Sim A has claimed Sim X as a Best Friend for their Ambrosia requirements, Sim B cannot claim Sim X for their requirements. If Sim A hasn't claimed Sim X then Sim B should be allowed to claim Sim X. Sim A and Sim B can both be Best Friends with Sim X.

At least that's how I've been playing and there's no way I'm starting over again on a technicality.

As for the makeover/tattoo age reset thing, here's my update. All 4 of my Immortals tried all 4 options: Get Stylist Makeover on the mirror and on the Stylist (no age rest), Get Makeover From... on the mirror (no age reset), and Makeover Self on the mirror (this one did reset their age). Getting tattoos at the Salon is still resetting age for me. I seem to have a combination of both in my Dynasty game file; I haven't tried this in any other game yet - on second thought, getting a tattoo at the Day Spa has reset ages in my Challenge files where I've done that.
You've played too much TS3 when ... your 13 month old's babble sounds like Simlish!

Okay, great. That's how I was playing it in my previous dynasty, and it only just occurred to me that I could have been doing it wrong as I had been doing the opportunities wrong for the first three generations (luckily it caused no issues for me).

We'll probably need a ruling from Metro on this.  I think I have it right, but he'll know for sure.

The rules state the following:

Quote
6. Have 6 different Best Friends (must be different Best Friends of other immortals) before eating Ambrosia for the first time.

I understand this to mean that the 6 Best Friends must all be unique.  Just like with skills and SuperMax Skills.  If one Immortal has a best friend for the requirement, no other Immortal can be Best Friends with that Sim until after the first Immortal eats Ambrosia.  I seem to remember having to be careful with everyone living in the Dynasty house and make sure they didn't accidentally become Best Friends with anyone they shouldn't.

Okay, I'll wait for Metro to give a clear answer, as it seems people have been interpreting it differently.

Sorry I didn't step in today on this, Alexandria_. I did read your question and chose to lay low only because lilygirl beat me to it and explained everything perfectly.

Now I am actually quite confused.

I was under the impression (also seeing how others claimed Best Friends in their dynasties), that Best Friends had to be different for each Immortal, but not unique. Like Lily said, Sim X can be claimed by either Sim A and Sim B, but not by both, even though both can be Best Friends with Sim X.

Reading Pam's reply however, I'm getting all confused and slightly panicky because no overlap between Best Friends means that family and housemates are pretty much excluded.

But I gather from your reply Metro that you meant this rule to apply the way Lily explained it, and not how Pam explained it?

Pam's explanation was perfectly fine too. Remember, everyone — it all just depends on Best Friends chosen for the purposes of the Ambrosia requirements. Each immortal must have 6 totally unique BF that no other immortal has claimed for their requirements. But, outside of the BF needed for eating Ambrosia the first time, anything goes in the BF department.

The whole uniqueness aspect only applies with the eating of Ambrosia — the skill that has to be Supermaxed, BF, BlackOps, career, etc. 2 immortals can max the same skill — IF that skill is not their skill chosen for Ambrosia. Immortals can do the same opportunities — IF they are not the BlackOps used for the requirement. Immortals can have the same BF — as long as they have 6 unique ones for the requirement. And on and on.

I'm really sorry Metro but it's still not making a whole lot of sense to me. Maybe the fact I'm not a native English speaker is rearing it's ugly head.

I don't see how Lily's explanation and Pam's explanation can both be accurate. When considering the first-time Ambrosia requirements, Best Friends must either be unique or not. Can't really be both.

Maybe an example will lift this fog from my brain:

Say Sim G1 (Generation 1) has 2 other people living in the house (a spouse and a housemate). Sim G1 is Best Friends with all of these people. Then Sim G2 is born, and while growing up becomes Best Friends with all the people living in the house. Can Sim G1 then have the spouse and the housemate for their Best Friend Ambrosia Requirement?

If the Best Friends have to be unique then I'm inclined to think no, because there's overlap with Sim G2. Similarly, Sim G2 won't be able to claim them either because there's overlap with Sim G1. So that'd exclude most significant family relationships from being able to be claimed, since it's fairly hard (or cruel?) to not have heir and spouse become Best Friends.

Am I finally starting to understand this or do I still have it completely wrong?

On a related, but slightly different, note: Can the Gen 1 Sim put the Gen 2 Sim on the BF Req. List (since obviously Gen 2 Sim can't be Best Friends with him/her self), or is this considered sneaky and not allowed :P

Again, it all boils down to what BF you want Gen 1 to count for Ambrosia. Using your example, Gen 1 has the spouse and housemate as BF. Fine. Gen 2 grows up and is also BF with those same Sims (Gen 1's spouse and housemate). That's okay too as long as Gen 1 has 6 BF outside of the house that are unique.

Immortals can definitely be BF with each other. If Immortal #1 is claiming Immortal #2 as one of his unique BF, then that means Immortal #2 cannot be a BF to any other Immortal (non-Immortals are not tied to the same restrictions).

Ok, then I understand. Thanks for putting up with all the questions.

Probably much safer to just seek the BFs outside the house :P

I know that ages back there was a mini discussion about the Time Machine, but we are allowed to use it, right? So long as a child that comes out lives with our household until death? And we do not claim a Time Machine child to be the heir (For obvious reasons)?

Yes to all three questions.
