The Sims 3 Immortal Dynasty Challenge

There isn't a story to it, but tjsmetana finished a Dynasty in BB.  Here is the link to her Dynasty. 

She finished it about a month ago and has been in the Hall of Fame all this time.

That is one of my favorite Dynasties to read actually! I had another question, and I apologize for all the questions, when doing the portraits, you need the 6 pictures of 6 different times of life? Or is it just 6 different pictures of them, period. (my numbers could be off) to put in the museum.

It has to be of the 6 lifestages (Toddler, Child, Teen, Young Adult, Adult, Elder). The last 3 for the founder. Hope that helps.

8. With the exception of your Founder, each immortal needs to have 6 portraits painted of themselves — one for each of the following life stages: Toddler, Child, Teen, Young Adult, Adult, and Elder. These are the sole items for your Immortals’ Museum. Your Founder needs to have Young Adult, Adult, and Elder portraits added to the museum before eating Ambrosia. Once placed in the museum, paintings cannot be replaced with new paintings of the same immortal.  Optional: Photographs and/or ice sculptures of each immortal at the same life stages may be included in the museum if expansion packs are being used.

I am going to...well I have already started the Dynasty challenge and it is indeed a challenge but it is more fulfilling than the Legacy one for me. The only problem is I feel I might have to just make it a Legacy challenge seeing as I chose Barnacle Bay and when it comes to finding seeds and other necessary things just to make the Ambrosia, I am wondering if it has been done? I'm loving the story and the challenge I'm playing and I'm almost afraid/shy to share it with other because I'm paranoid that I'm doing something wrong.

I am doing an Immortal Dynasty in Booty errr Barnacle Bay. (I also play World of Warcraft) As Pam says it's harder but not impossible. My third generation is doing the gardening/gardener thing with Life Plants but I cheated a little bit and had the previous spouses doing gardening (not the Immortals) and kept most of the produce for Perry to use and sell. Have yet to fish up a money seed but money is not such a big issue really with paintings and statues selling well. Also have the Founder, who is Immortal now just fishing deathfish and quitting his culinary job every time he reaches the top for the promotion bonuses. I have 3 ponds on my lot with one huge fence around it that is locked to the founder. The first pond has Alleycat Fish, the second has Angel Fish and the third has Deathfish.

Third gen is only a teen but already has his property and building so you can do it in Barnacle Bay with a little thought and patience.

I'm running into logistics issues with the portrait issue. How do most people handle tackling everybody needing those portraits (I know except for the founder) at the different stages of their lives. Does it have to be a /portrait/ or can it be a still life of the person as well? And what happens if your founder is an adult before a young adult portrait can be painted, they can't paint a picture of themselves so it requires finding somebody else to paint it for them? This I believe is going to be the most challenging part of this challenge for me because I'm such a stickler for rules.

It has to be a portrait, done with the "Paint Portrait Of" command you get with Painting Level 7. The YA portrait of your first generation is rough - most people seem to have their spouse do nothing but paint, paint, paint until they get painting that high, or else have a roommate who's already good at painting in addition to the spouse. After that, it's not too much of a bother, especially once your officially designated painter hits 30 completed paintings and gets them done a lot faster. Generally I have everyone pose for the painter the day after their birthday, since they only need to stand there long enough to capture the pose.

Like Cathy said, it has to be the paint portrait command. If you aren't able to get the YA portrait before they turn into an adult, the dynasty ends and if you want, you can retry the challenge.
What I did (and most other people did) is find a spouse, or even a room-mate, with a high painting skill and just get them to keep painting until they reach level 7 and can paint portraits.

Another approach I took is having the founder have more than one kid (I ended up with triplets.. yikes!). That way, one of the siblings can paint a portrait of Gen 2 as an elder (and even young adult) when the founders spouse dies.

Thank you all for your patience and your clarification. I do have a question that is driving me nuts because I've had to restart a couple of times due to confusion and misunderstanding some of the rules. Is it possible to get a portrait you didn't know you deleted or sold /back/ again somehow?

Only if you sold it in Buy/Build Mode and have not left it since you deleted it. Once you leave Buy/Build Mode into Play mode you can not undo actions. If you sold it through the Inventory or on the Easel then you can't get it back.

Oh man, that's a bummer. I feel bad for my little simmies when I work them to the red levels of need just to finish learning a skill. I had the founder learn art to paint her heir and her hubby learn art to paint /her/ before she aged into an adult and had to sacrifice his work and such things and the mother had painted toddler heir and child heir and hubby's focus was young adult founder and then adult founder...but I have no idea where the toddler picture is and I'm scared I sold it to clear it for another painting without thinking. Yay for oversights, now I must figure out how to properly proceed. Thank you all, I have a feeling this is a learning experience.

Technically, it is possible to have only a spouse who will max painting, sculpting and photography in those 3 weeks while your founder is YA. Trick is to find a spouse quickly enough. I managed to do that 4 times, 3 times it was Zelda and once with Jamie Jolina, none was artistic and had no related skills. (Now I moved in Agness too so Jamie can max her career and have her LTW). But you're right, with that strategy, spouses don't do much but skill up and eat/bladder/sleep. You can reach level 7 painting in 3-4 days, and photography in less than 2 days, but sculpting is the hard and very long till you get 25 ice sculptures. It is still doable, so when founder reach adult stage, you get time for everything else (children, relationships etc).
Also, immortal museum doesn't have to be separate part of home, but it is easier to keep a track of everything, it can be even basement or simple wall at the back or the property, but once you lined all portraits and everything else (I also named them once I chose museum piece), you can easily keep a track and be extra careful when redecorating museum part.

Yes indeed. I am learning as I go, and having to be extra careful as well so as not to make a mistake like the previous one again. I actually stopped playing until I could get everything cleared up because having to restart to a certain point was getting frustrating. I didn't post the updated part of my story until today because of all the mistakes I had made. It turns out, everything is going much better now and it is a lot more fun.

My advice to anyone attempting a dynasty is to wait for the spouse or roommate to be able to do portraits and ice sculptures before the heir is born.
If you can get married quickly then you have about 18 days for someone to skill up if you have a baby straight away you only have around nine days before you need to get a toddler portrait done.

You know this is actually a wonderful idea. I am from now on making it a 'family' tradition for every 'heir' to learn painting up to 7 as a child so they will be prepared to paint pictures of their Heirs when they are adults. This is going to help, or so I hope. I also learned that it is best to only paint portraits of people who are in rooms with lights or during the day outside or! YOu end up like the beautiful...black...space in the first slot of my second generation's portrait wall. I will not be repeating this mistake again if I can help it. I'm learning as I go, trying to follow the rules to the letter, and remembering to be nice to my game so it won't crash on me. Thank you all for your help again.
