Hi, I'm roguebait, and I need help.

First off, a bit of history:

I have, in the past, largely played solely for the joy of building pretty houses. Create a Sim, find a lot, give 'em a few hundred grand via cheats, and go to town building them the best, most awesome house. While I always had the intent to actually play the game as it was meant to be played (and indeed, I stumbled across this website seeking ways to better associate my Sims' personalities with the career path they would ideally be taking) I somehow never got around to it.

It was almost two weeks ago that I finally decided, after reading Pam's Dreamweaver story, that I would do this Challenge for myself. The hardest thing ever was building that tiny, three-walled building so that my poor Sims could take care of their ablutions safe from the prying eyes of those driving by - and leaving it as it was. Unfinished.

I've had questions, but I've largely been able to deduce the answers - with almost 300 pages behind me in this forum, I'm largely able to find the answers to most of my problems. Unfortunately, and I do apologize, but I have lost patience skimming page by page for this one. It's simply taking too long. I have also tried googling my problem, but the results are all three or four years old, and this seems to be a newish problem - at least for me.

See, I've been at this for almost two weeks now. Picking names, creating Sims, perfecting their every detail so that they might make beautiful children one day. And I have not once, in the four attempts I have made, been able to get past the first generation. Different towns, different saves, different Sims... And all have had to be scrapped. Why, you ask?

Because I cannot, for whatever reason, get my Sim's intended to move in with them!  My first attempt they were even able to marry - but he still wouldn't move with her.  I'm at my wit's end - and, ask anybody, I'm a terribly witty person, so you know this must be dire.

Is there a work-around? Is there something I can do, some way I can make this work?

  • I have all expansion and "Stuff" packs up to Pets, excluding Generations and "Town Life Stuff".
  • While I am not certain where you're pulling the "1.4.2" (1.42? I'm used to WoW patches...) from, I can you that my game is completely up-to-date. I just double-checked.
  • I run no mods. The only custom content I use are patterns that I have created myself.
  • I do have a metric tonne of store stuff.

Welcome to the forum roguebait!  Another Wow player!   Rogue bait?  Does that mean you play everything else?

Back to Sims - There is a glitch that was only recently fixed with the patch that came out two days ago that had problems with the marriage moving them in.

If you patch completely up to date, it will say patch 1.47.####### when you mouse over the base game symbol at the bottom of your launcher.

Otherwise, you can move anyone in if you do enough social interactions under the Friendly and only Friendly branch of the game.  Once the other Sim thinks your Sim is "sociable" - ask to Move in should be available.  I use this all the time because I want both Sims to have the wish to get married most of the time.  LTHP (lifetime happiness points) can be important.

Otherwise not all is lost and you probably wasted time trying to read this monster thread.   It's entirely too large at this point.

If you have any other problems, questions all you have to do is ask.  I will tell you that the last 80 pages are the most important of this thread so it might be better to re ask all the questions you had before.   Things have changed or been clarified (especially Edit Town) a lot in the last 6 months.   If you don't want to put the laundry list here, I accept PMs as well as the other Challenge Board Team Members.   Metro is busy with RIFT sometimes but ratchie and I can be nice and helpful.  She's the dynasty queen after all and she made me high priestess.

Happy Simming!

Ah-ha! I've been focusing on the Romantic branch. That explains much. Thank you!

And, actually, I think I know the answer to this question,z but maybe not.

Riverview has no bars. It's okay if I swap out a couple empty residential lots for some, right? As long as I do this before I move my Sim in?

And there's a bit of a story behind Roguebait, but the easiest part of it to explain is that I am really, really bad at PvP. Really.

I know that feeling!   yes you can replace empty residential lots with bars if you want.   I also offer you this advice -- Read this post very carefully.    And check out the wonderful information available on this page if all you're really trying to do is mixology and not hang out at a bar.

...fascinating; I never would have thought to put bars in some of those places.... and of course, if you've bought a property, there's nothing stopping you from putting a bar in, learning the drinks, and then taking it back out, if you don't want a bar there full-time.

Good news!

I managed to get Miss Crumplebottom to join my household for the newest attempt. This bodes well for future interactions. So, thanks, Rica.

Here's hoping Miss Eon Sentinel will make it. Isn't she... special?

Her formal wear. It's from the store.

Bad news!

One out of every three screenshots crashes me to the desktop. Luckily, I remembered this fact and saved before sending Agnes over to the mirror to make her less terrifying.

I removed the spoiler as we really don't worry about that around here.  I like the founder and I have used that dress myself but in a bright red, rawr.

For the crashing to desktop - maybe try lowering one setting a smidge will help.  I found that being in windowed mode made it happen less often on my Mac too.

I don't know if this has been asked already. (Theres 200 pages)
But can the founder or other immortals be ghosts? I know spares can but there is nothing about immortals.

  • Vampires, Mummies, SimBots, Genies, Fairies and Werewolves are not allowed in your household, but anyone else may be a household member including Imaginary Friends, Ghosts, Witches, Aliens and pets.

Yes, they can. :)

Okay, so this is a discovery that might make you guys question my overall sanity. Oh well.

So I had a crazy idea about using the Clone Drone potion on ghosts, and decided to test it out for myself. Turns out that you can totally clone unplayable ghosts. I even have picture evidence.

My question is if this is restricted to pre-made ghosts, or if I could clone my favorite townies long after they're gone (as long as I keep track of which one is the clone).

Using this for ghosts is one thing but using it on townies feels like a way of extending their life even if it is just a clone.  Just personal opinion though.  Metro still gets final call.

Yeah, it is a silly idea and not something I'd consider as a viable option until all my other viable options were exhausted. That's what I get for testing my crazy ideas at 1 AM. :P

I personally feel that cloning anybody, ghost or otherwise, that isn't part of your household should not be allowed.for me it ranks alongside caking up townies to get a suitable spouse. It basically means that you can produce a spouse right when you need one you don't have to worry about premature aging.
Just my opinion Metro has final say obviously.

I agree with Rica and Rachel. Something about it just kind of has a bad vibe for me so let's just say no cloning townie ghosts.
