A question or four regarding Supermaxing Guitar Skill, and in Particular the Guitar Star skill challenge. The questions also relate to the equivalent for the other three instruments, particularly within the rule set of the Immortal Dynasty Challenge. At the moment, the sim in question, my founder is just raising guitar. He is still at YA and is currently at level 8.

1) Am I correct in my understanding that this challenge is met when you've met 10 skill opportunities for the instrument in question?

2) Do they specifically have to be opportunities to play at the different locations (eg the play for party at Business Offices) or do ones such as "Tonnes of Tips" count as well towards this challenge? He has been offered that opportunity by Cyclone Sword. (I know there is a 0 and a 3 in there somewhere).

3) I've had opportunities also to play in a foreign land (France). As this is my founder, he can't take that, but if it was a latter generation, would that count towards this particular skill challenge as well? (I'm planning on having four immortals from this dynasty having one each of these four instruments as their supermax skill.

4) At the moment he doesn't have a job. The job he maxes would be in the Music Career (Rockstar branch). Does receiving opportunities for work interfere with receiving opportunities for the instrument skill, or do they come from different opportunity 'pools'?

Also, a question regarding sculpting.

I've never once been able to get a statue of my founder as a Young Adult, despite having someone start sculpting on day one of it. On average, I'm up to about 20 of the 25 ice sculptures by the time my YA founder has aged to Adult. I have tried various types of sims including Agnes, Billy Caspian, Elaine Joy and Giovanni (from Union Cove) and I haven't been able to get to the 25 ice sculptures in time. I've seen others with all three ice sculptures in their museums, so I was wondering what I am missing. Any advice/hints/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I can answer a couple.

1) Yes.
2) No. Any skill opportunity for that instrument apparently counts.
3) Don't know for sure. If it's in the Skill slot it probably counts. Wouldn't it be nice if there were a counter?
4) They come from different "pools" - you can have a Career Opportunity, a Skill Opportunity, and a Special Opportunity active at the same time. Celebrity and School opportunities count as Special. The annoying bit: Band gigs use the Skill slot, but I don't think they count towards the challenge. Don't ask me how that makes sense.
5) A Moodlet Manager or a Motive Mobile can go a long way here. Essentially, your sculptor should do nothing but sculpt until they hit 25 ice sculptures. Switch to ice as soon as you have it available.

One of the most important things about the Guitar Star challenge is that your Sim not have any other skills.  If he does, those skills will also trigger opportunities and make it less likely to get an opportunity for the guitar skill.  That's the strategy that many players have developed in order to achieve the Guitar Star challenge.  It's still difficult, but it can be done.

I've done two dynasties in a row with a sculpture for my YA founder just by having someone max logic and getting the sleeping potion.  A good bed (the cheap one from Showtime is soo nice) and the sleeping potion means your sculptor doesn't need as much sleep to get fully rested.  I also recommend just giving them fruit to eat, first LTR be steel bladder and if you can swing it, make someone inappropriate or a slob do the sculpting that way when they get stinky - you can sponge bath in a sink or they just won't care.    As soon as the person hits level 5 - do nothing but Ice.  In fact I recommend 3 clay sculptures then you should be level 5 and can just slip right into ice.  Never deviate from doing nothing but ice sculptures.  If you have to, put a toilet outside and give them a coffee machine.  Don't allow this person to interact with anyone or anything.  Be mean to this Sim.

Dek - I've decided you like to make yourself do challenges.  Just so you know there are a tons of people who have almost failed their dynasties just trying to do one instrument skill and most of them only succeeded by switching Supermax at age 80 or something.  I'm not trying to discourage you but even I have had issues getting the Guitar Star challenge on longer lifespans much less doing it on normal.

World Adventures also gives you two more skills to SuperMax:  Martial Arts and Nectar Making.  Also, it gives six new kinds of grapes, cherries, plums, and pomegranates that can be planted in gardens.  However, the Immortal Dynasty Challenge was designed so that someone even with just the base game can complete the challenge.  Each expansion pack just makes it more diverse and perhaps easier because of having more choices.

I'm going to merge this thread with the official Immortal Dynasty thread.  Feel free to ask any more questions there.

Um... I`m new at the forum so i don`t know where to ask this question but here it goes:
I love playing challenges in The Sims 3, especially legacy and dynasty type. I read in the guide about the immortal dynasty challenge which found me very intrigued. My disk drive broke and i can`t install World Adventures anymore, so i wonder what benefits does World Adventures give to the challenge, because i will play only with Ambitions and Late Night. Or can i do the challenge without World Adventures, and still enjoy it?

If you've got disc problems and you still have your serial code, you can download the game digitally from Origin.

I am thinking of starting an immortal dynasty challenge, so i was wondering if spreadsheet is helpful, and how to use it. I have downloaded it, and i don`t know if i should use only one line in excel to track achievements made by my immortals. Should i put a + or a tick when i have finished a task or write how much paintings are there of an immortal (for example). Hope you understand what i mean.

In my sheet, I've got, basically:
Header: Name, gen, supermax skill, max career, Building, Property (with tick boxes for upgrade levels).
List of Opportunities done, tick boxes for "is this a Black Op"
List of Lifetime Rewards bought, tick boxes for "Is this one of my unique rewards"
List of Unique Best Friends (which I fill out at the end), since it can change rapidly
Tick boxes for Portrait, Sculpture, Photo at each life stage.

I found it easier to make hard-copy printouts of the basic sheet and keep track with pen and paper, but that's partially due to a peculiarity of my system - if I alt-tab away from Sims, then when I switch back, the graphics are very dark. This also gives me the opportunity to make notes on the back if necessary.

To some extent you need to do what works for you as far as record-keeping - my system may not be to your taste.

Using the spreadsheet is really your choice,  I have a text document that lays everything out much like the first post in my dynasty thread and I write it all out because that's easier for me.   The spreadsheet itself has one tab for each generation so it's all up to you how you do it but I would use 6 lines for 6 black ops, 3 lines for LTRs, 6 lines for best friends and under the portrait/photo/ice sculpture - I would use all the lines needed but I would start by saying toddler, child, etc.   Since you'll need 6 of them for every generation but the first that is.  This way if you don't get a photo for say the Young Adult stage of your founder (Which you wouldn't if you don't have WA) then you wouldn't put anything there.

This is an example of what I do for me but that was because I never remember to use excel so this was the easiest for me:

Quote
1st Generation/Founder
Artie Grim:  Neat, Computer Whiz, Insane, Party Animal, Evil
Supermax:  Logic
Career:  Criminal
LTW:  Emperor of Evil
Building:  Known Space Books
Property:  Crater Lagoon
3 LTRs:  Vacationer, Moodlet Manager, Fireproof Homestead
6 Best Friends:  Alexander Cross, Patricia Cross, Cheyenne Cross, Raja Ansari, Frida Amarind, Noela Spector
6 BlackOps:  A Package for You (work), Counting the Loot (work), Extra Loot (work), Friends for Life (work), Simoleons under the Table (work), Settle an Argument (logic)
YA Pieces:  Portrait, Photo, Sculpture
Adult Pieces:  Portrait, Photo, Sculpture
Elder Pieces: Portrait, Photo, Sculpture

I always keep some paper and a pen next to me when I play to keep notes. I write down things as I do them to keep organised, and when I've finished playing as I write myself a list so I know exactly what I need to do the next time I play.

If it will help, here is a link to my Dreamweaver Immortal Dynasty completed spreadsheet.  There's a tab at the bottom for each generation.

I'm sure this has been asked and answered:
My CAS founder asked Connor Frio to move in as soon as the opportunity presented itself. They married and now my founders last name is Frio.
Do I start over or can I keep going with this one?
