You all are so kind! And thank you to all of you who replied to my post. Was my frustration showing?  I am determined to do this thing (even after just losing try #5 out of sheer stupidity!) This really is an awesome challenge. I am doing some serious planning and research before undertaking try #6. You have all given me some great tips and strategies that I hadn't thought of - if you don't mind, I will keep you posted on how this goes. You might want to kick me out after try #12 though! Thanks, again, for being very helpful and understanding.

An Old Friend isn't necessarily a drop in friendship strength — it has more to do with how long Sims have had their friendship.

So I have to leave a building and a venue to buy for each generation? So I can't just buy them all by the 3rd gen or so and not have to worry about it again?

That's part of the challenge -- remembering to do everything. ;)

It's hypothetical. I was thinking about the future. I haven't bought a property yet for my immortals.
From money trees.

I just brought in $120,000 from Real Estate, and $60,000 came from the Science Lab.

If all of your family members were sculpting topiary all day, you would probably have enough - that's it...

Ah but you forget the extremely useful Consignment Store. I can sell $5000 worth of stuff in return for $25,000.  ;)
