Amazing update as always @LivvieLove! (I admit to being a silent reader for many months.)
It was interesting to see the new Mania, although people have already commented on that, so I'll leave it there.
Majnun was ... Majnun.
(I've been meaning to say this for a while, but I looked up his name and found the story of Layla and Majnun, the man who cannot marry his lover because he loves her so much he seems mad, then they both eventually die of heartbreak. This got me really worried, because I'm really hoping for a 'happy ending' for Majnun, as he's such an amazing character. Perhaps he'll fail to bring Anne back to life and die? Or am I really overthinking this, and did you just happen to know the Arabic word for madman?)
Anyway, I spotted the Quinn/Esmerelda reference - is that a hint that Song of the Nightingale will come out soon? Or is that just my hopeful mind talking?
Oh my! Hello there
@Nienor! A new face! I love spotting new faces!
I love all my readers, be they silent or actively commenting, though I
always love feedback and seeing what others have to say - especially in cases like this! You found me out!
First of all, thank you for the lovely compliment, and second of all - buckle up because you've unleashed the chatty portion of myself!
New Mania's personality is the same as old Mania, she's just in a new body - a very gorgeous, adorable new body.
Majnun! Oh Majnun, Majnun, Majnun. You've been discovered! It's a long story on my decision for his name, and I could
probably spare you the details, but I wouldn't be
me if I did.
You'd be surprised how few names there are that mean Insanity, Madness, or Crazy (strange how that works, you'd think those would be
popular names for babies
). Selecting the name for Aleccas's brothers were all fairly easy (Kefka from Final Fantasy, Sheogorath from Skyrim, Mania as a form of Manic, Deliro as a form of Delirious), but I needed Majnun's name to be special.
Initially, I knew nothing about Majnun. I like to describe my characters as little people who live in my head (yes, I've spoken to a psychologist, I'm fine XD) with their own stories they have to tell and their own personalities. I'm just a tool to write down their crazy antics and to test them in scenarios to see how they'll react. It's great fun for me and a good creative exercise... but basically I had no idea what kind of character Majnun was.
I originally intended him to be a Chaotic Evil character, but clearly that didn't work out. I found Majnun and Layla a long, long time ago and was fascinated by it. Mostly I just liked the name and knew it fit my Majnun. When I dug into his past, I slowly figured out his wives and the story didn't even come to mind until after I had already formed Majnun and Anne's romance.
So, in short, no he wasn't
meant to be based off that story, but I did draw loose inspiration from it.
As far as what happens to Anne and Majnun... I'm not going to spoil anything, but now that I've posted that last chapter I can officially say with no spoilers that Anne is dead/going to die and that she's not coming back.
Now, whether or not Majnun dies of heartbreak later down the line when his time comes towards the end of my story when the next God of Madness and Magic rises... I'll leave that up to reader interpretation.
Phew! Ok, Majnun talk over. Sorry, I could really go on for
days about his character.
Now, you've inquired about "Song of the Nightingale!" Squee! I'm so excited for that story. Unfortunately, due to circumstances and time and a coming storyline, I'm moving at a bit of a crawl when it comes to writing the story. "Song of the Nightingale" and The Reapers are about to come to a cross-over point here where the stories will intersect briefly before going on their way. I've been name-dropping them more and building up their characters (well, Quinn's character, Ezzie will get some love here soon when there's less people to juggle and less names for everyone to remember
) so that this intersection can happen. Once this intersection is over with it'll be a lot easier for me to write "Song of the Nightingale" because where things stand right now I've changed several crucial details so that things line up for the Reapers and I don't want to overwrite myself.
Now, "Song of the Nightingale" is going to be a very
long story, and I've got several chapters written here and there as I go along. They've been 'together' for roughly 150 years by the time Agnes and the Reapers come into play and the story is going to cover
all of it and then some.
Finally, and the
most unfortunate bit, I will not be posting "Song of the Nightingale" on Carls. Quinn is too much of a potty mouth for me to do his character justice, and there are some... we'll call it "line walking" I would be doing with certain aspects of Esmerelda's past and personality that I just couldn't do justice if I had to omit or be vague about. So, as for that story, I will put up an announcement when the blog goes live and I will do what I'm doing with the Reapers 2.0 (my rewrite of this story) and have a list of those who wish to receive notice of updates via PM on this forum.
(Long winded breath)! Sorry for chatting your ear off, and thank you for your wonderful comment! =D
