Sims 3 - Mods not installing
« on: October 12, 2013, 12:53:29 PM »
I installed a few of Twallan's mods and few months ago and I loved them! But I deleted them so I could try a dynasty. I tried installing them again today (following the step by step guide on this forum exactly) and when I go into my game, they're not installed! I've tried deleting and re-installing them a few times but it never works. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Make sure that the mods are updated and before using them delete the .cache files .

Hmm. I deleted my cache files, restarted my computer, and started over with making a completely new mod folder. And it's still not working.  >:(

Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Is everything spelt exactly right with the right upper-case and lower-case because it is case sensitive. Other than that I have no idea. I hope this helps.

I actually forgot to mention that. I spelled them right and cases are correct but when I type in either "Mods." or "Package." the computer takes out the period. I don't know why but could this have something to do with it?

I don't think they are supposed to have any periods in it.
This might be a stupid question, but is your resource.cfg in the right spot?

It's supposed to be in the Mods folder, correct?

Yes, it is. Do you have a picture of your mods folder?

Let me get on my computer and I should be able to help better then...

EDIT: This is what the resource is supposed to look like when it is extracted beside the .rar it was in.

And this is what your mods folder is supposed to look like when you put the extracted .cfg in it.

Can you see the pictures? I didn't have time to snip from my computer so I took them with my phone.

Yeah, I can see your pictures fine. I'm on Windows 8 so I don't know if it's different than yours but my files don't show up exactly like yours. I have the same ones though.

Get the Mods folder & Resource.cfg from MTS and do it that way.

1. Go here: http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Installing_Sims_3_Package_Files/Setup_and_Files and scroll down a bit to the blue "download" button.
2. Click on the button to download the FrameworkSetup.zip
3. Extract FrameworkSetup.zip to Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3

Now you will have a folder called Mods in in your The Sims 3 folder. Start the game and if you don't see the EA Intro video, your mods folder is properly working. Shut down the game and add the NRaas mods to Mods\Packages

Hope this helps.

I already have a Mods folder with the Packages folder inside it though.

That one is premade so all you do is place it inside your Sims folder and it replaces the one you made, if I am understanding correctly.

Yes, using the MTS Framework will ensure that you have the correct Resource.cfg. It also provides you with an Overrides folder, which is an extremely useful folder to have in your Mods folder. But really, the most important part about using the MTS framework is the Resource.cfg. This will provide you with the correct file without any effort, and everything will be set up properly. It's also useful because it provides mods that are very easy to test to make sure everything is working correctly (no intro, no build sparkles), which you can delete if you don't like.
