Why Can't I Garden?

My sim has just finished her first course from the science center and she still can't garden. I will go to her inventory, select seed (common) press X (PS3) and my only option is to put away or take. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

you cant plant all common seeds when you are at level 1 gardening . try to raise her level first by reading a gardening book or watching the gardening channel
if i remember you can plant apple,grape.tomato.and lettuce when you are at level one (you can buy them from the grocery store)

You should be able to plant a "common" seed at level 1.  The course you took at the science center, did you take science class or gardening class?  When you look at your skills tab, what skill do you have?

Welcome to the forum SSLC0514.

Try going to buy/build mode and place the seeds on the ground in your home lot. Then go back to live mode, and you should be able to plant them. You can plant produce this way also.  Let me know if that works

Although this is about a skill, it's for the console version, so I'm moving this thread to the Console Board.

Console is very different to PC. What Blackrosea said is right. It took me a lot of trial and error working out how to garden on the ps3. But you have to place the seeds in build/buy mode, then in live mode you should be able to plant them. I'm pretty sure if you're not a high enough level to  plant something, a pop-up message appears telling you that you need a higher skill level to plant that particular seed.
