Death VS Health - do they live longer with a maxed Athletic Skill?

Hey all

Just curious. Swtiched back to my Lane family today. Rhodes family is just out of control. 2 parents with the family oriented trait = 7 kids and LOTS of work!! 

Both of them wanted to have more kids, and I was just like no way man..the option to "try for baby" was greyed out, even though both of the parents were still young. Does the game limit the number of kids?? Never seen that before. Though I have noticed a LOT of bugs. The "object attached to sim" seems to happen frequently in this house, so I am constantly having to reset them.

Anywho - in my other family, Mikayla and Brett are both elder. Mikayla just hit day 95, which is the longest I have ever had a Sim live. Both her and Brett have maxed out the Athletic skill. Brett is now day 93. Has anyone ever noticed that if they work out alot they live longer? I just find it curious that both of these Sims have lived past day 93 which seems to be the average for me. It seems like Grim shows up for me, regardless of family when they are sleeping. This is the first time I've had a family with 2 maxed athletic skills, and they both have lived past day 93..

anyone else run into that? Has anyone had a sim live to day 96? Just curious.

I have sims that age past 100 frequently...it kinda sucks because I am just waiting around for them to die.   I think that athletic skill (especially running) and lifetime happiness effect the age at which your sim dies. 

Households are only supposed to allow 8 total sims.

I made a mistake.. they only had 6 kids. That explains why it was greyed out!

I think there just might be something to this maxed athlectic skill thing and living longer.. Both Brett and Mikayla have maxed athletic skills. Right now, Mik is on day 97, and Brett is on day 95. Brett's sister Grace only had 2 bars for althetism, and she was on day 89, but croaked just now. Frankly, that really surprised me. I have found when they are "elder' they have very few wishes, and seem to "know" that his/her number is up. I was shocked actually, because everytime I have played, my sims usually die at day 93. Grace was the "youngest" elder I have had die on me.. it's just weird!!

I think maxed out athletic skill does help them live longer.  In the skills journal, it specifically says that running will extend their lives.  I had a Sim live to 125 days.  She wasn't an athlete and wasn't eating Life Fruit or Ambrosia.  It was really bizarre and I was starting to wonder if she'd ever die.  She was going fishing with her 85 day old son!  She finally died on the steps of City Hall.

I wonder if happiness has more of an effect than athletic?  I had a sim live to about 96-97 days without ever doing any athletics at all. She was very happy most of the time and lived in a well decorated house because she was a master painter.

Or at least might have some impact. It's a good question — something I never really considered having an effect on lifespan. Of course, I typically play challenges and the ones I've played don't have you pushing Sims to the point where they die anyway.

It would be interesting if someone did a short test of 2 different short lifespan Elders — one where you'd really concentrate on happiness, the other where you'd intentionally let them get in "the red" to see if there was a noticeable difference when they died.

I'd buy into the happiness theory. I just had a Writer/Painter sim die at 120+ and she never even had a single level of Athletic, but was pretty happy all the time, with over a dozen Lifetime rewards (No Showers, Bathroom or Food required)

If not happiness, then maybe Lifetime Acheivment Points

It would be interesting if someone did a short test of 2 different short lifespan Elders — one where you'd really concentrate on happiness, the other where you'd intentionally let them get in "the red" to see if there was a noticeable difference when they died.

I smell a challenge coming on... ya know I'm just borderline have to know, have to figure it out or it will make me nuts personality disorder.. ROFL.. what if there was a challenge where you had to create two elder sims with a short life span, one where lifetime happiness requirement would be a set # and no althetic skill, the other where athletic had to be maxed, with " in the red".. and either half the lifetime # or something along those lines..i'm thinking.. thinking...this seems like a very interesting experiment...

Just to add my bit - my sims maxed out the athletic skill, and lived to well over 100. As some of you say, quite annoying really!

You know, for the most part, all of my sims have lived past 90 days. The only exception was the husband that married into the family. Some of the sims had athletic skills some didn't. But honestly, I'm annoyed by it. I can't have anymore babies in this house until the three elders die! One is going on 96 days!! I've never wished for my sims death but c'mon!!!

You can move your seniors out to another lot.

Yeah, what Leftcoaster said.  You can just move out anyone you don't want in the house.  Even if you use the "kick out" option, they won't be homeless.  They'll take up residence in the first empty house they find.  So, that also means you don't have to spend any money to buy another house for them.  I heard about another option to make Elders die, which was to give them birthday cake.  Supposedly, doing birthday cake for an Elderly would summon Grim and they would just die their there.  However, whenever I have a birthday cake available and click to choose who blows out the candles, my Elderlies are never on the list.  So, they never blow out the candles.  I don't know if it was just rumor or if it's something Electronic Arts has changed recently.

Yeah, I know about the move out option, but I'm very possesive and controlling of the sims I create and name so I really don't want to move them out. I'll just wait these old geezers out! And I won't be having as many kids next generation!
