Which career is best for money making?
« on: August 19, 2010, 02:20:15 PM »
My question is, which is best, medical, Forscenic analysis, or sports?

Medical gives 9600 a week, and gains 16 points an hour at best (See below
Professional sports gives 14784 a week (Counting games), and gains 17 points an hour. (Can't work hard)
Forscenic analysis gives 23 points an hour (4 metrics, brave, multi tasker, work hard, and ambitious), but only has 7940 a week.

Does anyone know which is best in the long run for money?

Method for determining job preformance increase per hour (may not be accurate):
Each metric: -3 for horrible, -2 for bad, -1 for poor, 0 for normal, 1 for good, 2 for excelent, and 3 for outstanding.
Ambitious: Adds 2
Work hard: Adds 3
Multitasker: Adds 3
Brave: Adds 3 for law enforcment and military.
Evil: Adds 3 for criminal.

Short answer:

The job that gets you the most raises per week at level 10 will pay off the most in the long term.  With 4 work days at level 10 you should get 2 raises easily, regardless of profession.

Now add the fact that medical not only has the highest base, but also has emergencies that result in overtime, you have a chance at gaining an extra raise usually within a 2-3 week span.  It also has the highest base.

Forensics has the option of doing an analysis from home, but pay is low and it’s not the best way to go.  But strictly from just job income, you could beat out the other 2 on a per week basis.  You also have to maintain reports, which is time consuming and unpaid.

EDIT:  I also just remembered:  The work on independent case option.  I've had it be succesful a few times, once at level 10; and it resulted in a huge raise, 3 figures. Can't remember the exact number, just that it was a huge surprise.  Going to re-test this; but if you got one of those regulalrly in addition to regular raises it will pay off best long-term.

If you want to add income off of skills learned specifically for the job, then Forensics takes it by far.  Since you are supposed to be at level 10 painting at level 10 forensics, and if you wanted to count that as job income, you would by far make the most money with this career path.  This is a subjective thing though, if you want to count it or not.

As far as sports goes, I haven’t completed it to level 10 before and when I did play it up to level 7, earlier promotions were harder to come by, compared to the other 2.  Which gives medical and forensics a head start on raises.  Forensics can have a stumbling block if you haven’t worked on painting skill before it becomes necessary at higher levels.  I have done forensics a few times; and once without missing a promotion.

Thanks for posting the bonuses to careers.  Although they help, they become irrelevant if you can’t get promotions; and vice versa - they don’t matter if you hit every promotion.

Business Is a good money-maker as well, but requires a more active role.  2979 a week with 17 metric points, but the real money is from holding meetings.  From the Business Career Article: "They'll make $500 per hour ($750) for holding a 1 1/2 hour meeting."  You can hold meetings until 7pm (I think) so If you were to hold 5 meetings after every work day that's an extra 11250 every week.  If you wanna go real crazy and hold meetings from 8a-7p on your 4 days off you could probably make 5250 a day or 21000 for all four days, bringing the weekly total to just over 35,000 a week.  You'll get that Vaguester in no time :)

Yeah Tommy and have a real looney sim. :D

I believe most of the careers pay well, I'm not inclined to find out the absolute best one.  Example, the firefighter I have makes $2480 every time he has an emergency and usually has only 1 per day, x5 days, then $2480 on Sunday which is about $15000 per week...he's lvl 10.  His off days he only has to make a one time visit to fire station for maintenance and catch up on co-worker relationships.

The problem with careers like business, law enforcement, journalism, medical, all those need the sim to do something outside of their jobs.  If the sim has a family this seriously limits his relationship to his wife and/or kids.  He may bring in a good paycheck but his family are only acquaintences. :P

There's always the advantage of space-rock breaking and guitar playing for tips to augment income.  Most of my sims have 6 figure household incomes and a couple own many business/venues to eat up the extra money but end up getting more anyway.
