An Enchanted Life

Prologue (same post)
Chapter One

Prologue - Cobweb and Elysium

In a beautiful little tower there lived a young girl and her mother.

They had a quiet, enjoyable life in Dragon Valley.

Even if mummy Cobweb was a witch, she was the kind to rescue injured animals, go fishing in her nightie and worry over spots and blemishes like any other woman.

They had very little money, so Cobweb played her violin for tips - occasionally serenading the fish in the pond that grew overcrowded regularly - while Elysium collected rocks and gems.

One afternoon Cobweb returned home from market with a strange new plant. The stall-owner had been very eager to sell it for just £12 - “A bargain, darling, no one else would do you such a deal!” - and it was only when she set it down that clusters of colourful beans sprouted. “Oh, jelly beans!” Cobweb, like all witches, had a sweet tooth and was gobbling handfuls of the sweets into her mouth in quite an unladylike manner.

And then...

Cobweb is beautiful! I am always drawn into reading stories with pretty sims, haha. Am I so superficial. ANYWAY, the story has a promising start! I look forward to more and to seeing what poor Ely will do on her own.

This looks interesting! Poor Elysium. What is gonna happen to her now that her mummy is gone?  :'(

I'm the same, lol, I absolutely love your sims - especially Winnie as she reminds me of Daenerys Targaryen (and all Targaryens in general).

This looks interesting! Poor Elysium. What is gonna happen to her now that her mummy is gone?  :'(

I hope to get the next chapter up soon, taking screenshots is so much easier than getting the right words out and I miss Cobweb already.

Thank you both for reading <3

So today my computer refused to switch on, after 2 hours it finally did and I'm so glad I didn't have to restart everything from scratch (building the tower was one heck of a job x.x).

Wow, Nettlejuice, I didn’t know you’re such a great builder, a very great job on the beautiful little tower, you must upload it to this forum if you want to of course and you’ll see other simmers will grab it because like me I suck at building or maybe I haven got the patients.  ;)

I do agree with kaseofhearts, Cobweb is beautiful!  Yeah, a great start and I’m also looking forward to more and what will happen to poor Elysium on her own.  :'(

Interesting story so far. Is this going to be something Disney related?

Thank you! This is my first attempt at a tower, I've always had box houses or lots from other players. I'd love to upload it, however I've used a lot of non-EA CC which I know many people won't like so for those who do, I may be able to pm them with the full list+lot download.

Ely won't be alone for too long, I just have to force myself to write - I've completed chapter one already, though that took ages.

Not really, it'll follow some sort of fantasy theme with modern elements.

Thank you very much for reading <3 Next update I'll be posting shots of the house since it'll not be used after chapter two (uh-oh)

So here are some shots of the house, the action has mainly taken place in the living/dining/kitchen area and I thought it would be a shame not to show the rest of the rooms.

I'll miss playing here after spending so much time creating it!

This is so beautiful! The only downside is Cobweb dieing in it and all. I hope we will see more of your amazing building throughout the story  ;D.

Chapter One — In Which A Tragedy Is Discovered

Janet arrived at the little tower her mother had described - the only remnant of a long ago castle with fairy thimbles, summer starwort and white valerian growing on the walls, and a frog fountain splashing away at the entrance. She sighed, remembering her conversation with the taxi driver as she’d repeated her mother’s words. Thankfully, there was only one such tower in all of Dragon Valley.

And here she was at last. She took a moment to study the scenery, take in the heavy smell of the flowers and gurgling of the fountain - if this was to be her new home, she should at least get used to it. As she approached the front door, there came a loud wailing similar to that of a banshees, and wondered for the first time if she’d been too hasty in leaving home.

“Hello?”

The wailing stopped. After a short silence, soft steps came towards the front door - it creaked open to a small girl, tear-streaked and shaking.

“Hello, Ely, it’s Janet!” She said, smiling in the hopes of comforting her little cousin. “Is aunty in? I know you’re not expecting me for a whole week, but I wanted to see the baby dragons and all those elves with weird ears and..”

Elysium interrupted her with some unintelligent nonsense, flapping her hands and gesticulating to the room beyond. She immediately resumed the wailing, much to Janet’s chagrin.

“It’s OK, my mum tells me off all the time.” She laid her hands on Elysium's shoulders. “I’m completely useless at everything!” Which wasn't strictly true, she was useless at the things her mother insisted she should excel at.

“No!”

Janet was taken aback. Surely Cobweb wasn't one of those evil mothers from fairy tales or the type of witch who hated children?

“She’s dead,”

“What? Are you sure?” Hardly believing the news, Janet followed her cousin inside, thinking - What is going on?

“The Grim came and put her in a pot, a pot!”

“Oh sweetie, that’s called an urn,” Janet said.

“Mummy...”

Janet sighed again. She had not expected this at all. A small part of her wished she’d stayed home, but a larger portion scolded her for being so selfish, after all Ely was only a child and Janet had to take responsibility for her now.

“Look,” she said as Elysium cried beside her mother’s urn. “We should go tell someone,”

“They’ll take me away,” Ely looked so stricken Janet didn't have the heart to argue.

“We can at least bury her. Where’s the nearest graveyard?”

Ely shock her head.

“We have to, she can’t—”

“No, I mean, mum always loved this house. She grew up here and we can’t let her final resting place be somewhere she hated.”

Janet thought back to all the times her mother had wistfully recalled a much-loved childhood spent with her sister in their beloved tower that deserved fairy tales to be created after it. Cobweb had invented the tale of Rapunzel, a girl who‘d spent too much time brushing her long hair than using it to escape from her prison.

“You’re right, I’m sure she’d prefer haunting us than a boring old graveyard.” That brought a small smile to Ely’s face.

They headed towards the garden, looking for the perfect spot, but Elysium turned left to an empty area beside the fish pond. “Here,” she said. Janet could see her mind had already been made up. She herself would have loved such an enchanting view.

“OK, now we search for shovels and maybe some flowers for the grave,”

It took them several hours to dig, neither of them had been to a graveyard or even a funeral to know what to do, and they didn't have the strength for such tireless work. Elysium was reluctant to ask the neighbours for help, she seemed to fear them or it must have been her loner trait kicking in. In the end, Janet dug and Ely gathered fairy thimbles - Cobweb’s favourites - to lay on the grave.

When their work was done, they stood beside the headstone that had appeared as Cobweb’s urn left the house.

“Mummy!” Floods of tears ran down Elysium’s cheeks. Janet could only stand quietly - she had a very vague memory of her aunt from when she’d been six years old.

Exhausted from the day’s event, they headed to bed. Janet brought out her sleeping bag and soon drifted off to sleep, oblivious to her cousin’s soft sobs.

~+~

Rest In Peace Cobweb Chant.

Thanks for reading <3 I was also heartbroken to lose Cobweb, she's great to play - I've used her and Ely in different settings before. As for 'amazing building' I hope to continue in Ely and Janet's new setting.

Urgh, my PC died x.x I'm hoping to buy a replacement this weekend or some time next week. Unfortunately I can't get my saves or sims so I'd have to create them all over again. I'll keep the prologue and chapter one and perhaps replace the pictures if the sims look too different from their originals.

:( Darn! I had to replace my motherboard a while back (thank God for extended warranties!) and lost 2 years of Sims so I know your pain. Hope you get it all back up and running soon enough!

Aww, poor Ely. Janet must find empathy a little harder than others. Ely definitely needed a hug, Janet!
