Heaps of Surprises
« Reply #196 on: February 18, 2014, 12:36:09 AM »
Wolfgang finally got up the courage to go back to the Clojo house.  It'd be a lot of explaining, but he'd somehow manage.

However, when his sister answered the door, all of his justifications withered on his tongue.  He'd been selfish and stupid and that's all there was to that.

He explained the stuff about David befriending Death and how he'd asked to start a family of his own.  The details he left out.  When Beryl announced her engagement to the object of Wolfy's affection it was all he could do to force his enthusiasm at her happiness.

Beryl suspected the truth though.  She made it her personal mission to ensure that her brother would be happy in his new home, with his daughter.

They both felt like things would be okay afterall.

It wasn't a moment too soon.  As Beryl made visits to her family, she was growing one of her own.

She was hoping for a girl and eating watermelons to ensure one.  She wanted her child to be a potential spouse for David Clojo.  Crazy he might be, but handsome and talented too.

Beryl went into labor on the first day of fall.  She indeed had a girl.  And then another.  And then another.  Triplet girls.  A very big surprise for the Clojos, the Carols, and the Watcher.

This rendered the Clojo house full, which means Beryl was unable to marry Riordan and move her family into the Mithrillan mansion.  This was unfortunate.  But the Clojos are nothing if not adaptable.

Toddler skills commenced in earnest.  Pearl Carol was the artistic, dainty one.  She loved pink and pretty things.  She is artistic and a virtuoso.  She is human.

Ruby is athletic and disciplined.  She loves all things active and was a constant challenge around the modest Clojo house.  She is a genie and has purple eyes.

Onyx is a flesh-toned genie.  She is evil and eccentric and very, very smart.  She learned her skills very quickly and was generally quiet and well behaved, though this was only to mask her early development scheming.

Their skills were a fly-by and the birthdays arrived as soon as possible.

Boarding schools were chosen to help develop these potential dynasty spouses into accomplished young ladies while also keeping the house drama free while David works on his skills.

Pearl was enrolled in an artistic retreat.

Choosing the perfect fit for her was not a challenge.

Ruby had a hard time choosing between the military academy and the sports school.  In the end, she went for sports.

She was too young to build an athletic skill, so fantasy football inhabited her short time as a child in the Clojo house.

Onyx is off to Prep School.  Power and prestige are in her future.

She discovered the hidden door in the basement before her first hour as a child was complete.

She was also fiendishly delighted when she saw the line of cars to take them to their respective education facilities.

She wished her sisters happy riding in their taxi cabs.  Beryl only cried a little.  At least she still had one baby to play with.

Meanwhile, David did what he does.  His sculpting has a definite repetitive theme to it.

Sometimes he gets artistic with his representation of Stool.

On Spooky Day, he dressed up like a rock star and asked Deirdre Brown to prom.  She said "oh yes, yes yes!"  Because he's gorgeous and unpredictable and teen girls can't resist that combination.

There are no other teen girls to ask that the Watcher is aware of, so Paul is going stag.  He will at least be buff doing it.

Not that his superior physical strength is a match for his brother's random bouts of lunacy.  This was unprovoked:

The lunacy might even be contagious.  Filly has had a hard time remembering to wear clothes lately.

Either way, the household has taken some very unexpected turns this generation.  The Watcher suspects David would have it no other way.

I take it Pearl will be David's wife? Unless you threw a Potent Cure at Ruby... I'm guessing Onyx is out of it because she isn't a rainbow. Shame...I always love the evil ones.

Pearl and Ruby are gorgeous! Not that Onyx isn't, but I see more of Beryl in the other two girls, and the rainbow skin helps.

Nice to see that David has some beautiful spousal prospects!

All three girls are potential spouses.  The rainbow thing is fun, but it's been more of an offshoot of living in DV than a deliberate strategy on my part.  I was personally pretty excited that Pearl and Onyx got hair colors that reflected their respective names.

Pearl and Ruby definitely have their mother's lips.  Onyx has her eyes, though.

Pearl is very cute, but she seems to sweet and dainty to handle David. Now Onyx, on the other hand . . .

Winter is Coming
« Reply #203 on: March 29, 2014, 07:13:13 PM »
The last vestiges of fall were uneventful in the Clojo house.  Prom arrived and Filly lost favor with both of her sons for insisting David go back upstairs and dress like a normal person.

She did win out in the end.

David brought someone home from prom.  Spoiler: it wasn't his prom date.

Whatever.

The too-long-in-the-same-game glitches started.  Random human/IF hybrids roaming around town with no obvious owner, etc.  And Wolfgang repeatedly forgets that he doesn't live in the Clojo house anymore.

Beryl, who very much wants to get married and reminds me as often as possible, threw herself into her singing career instead.  Her daughters were at boarding school an alarmingly long time.  Two days longer than a child life span, not including the first day in which she enrolled them.  What up with that?

She's made it to about level five and has confirmed that Bonehilda does indeed roam around town when the family isn't watching her.

The boys at some point became aware that three, likely attractive mini-Beryls would be returning home soon.  They discussed their strategy at length.

Both seem confident that they will winall three over.  It has not occurred to either that this will require declaring the other an opponent.

So, instead, they just reaffirm to one another how awesome they both are.  It gets kind of obnoxious, so the Watcher has started to send them to school early when they act like fratbros.

Meanwhile, David is at level 8 of his sculpting skill.  His interpretation of Stool grows with his talent.  He is sometimes frustrated that he can't sit on his sculptures and instead must sell them.

Paul is skilling in athletics, handiness, and cooking.  He figures the ladies dig all three.

Filly and Corren are contented.  They are both young and have already accomplished their LTWs, so why not just enjoy their second youth?

Or take up a hobby that clearly isn't meant for you.  I love how confrontational Filly looks here.

It was late on a Tuesday when the triplets came home.  Sadly, the whole family was fast asleep and not there to greet them.  No matter, the girls sorted out their teen looks and took to bed.  In the one day they'd have to interact with David and Paul as teenagers, they were hoping for a snow day.

Pearl is still artsy and delicate.

(outerwear)

Ruby has picked up a lot of martial arts skill.  She's still spunky and energetic.

(formalwear)

And Onyx, now a snob from her prep school education, is still probably a very dangerous person.

(formalwear)

They found empty beds from former children or butlers or tech experiments at various places around the house and turned in for the night.

Who knows what tomorrow would bring?

Waves #Onyx flag. Really, all the girls are beautiful, but Onyx's personality has completely won me over.

Now I don't know which girl to root for! But I agree with Rikki; Onyx's personality seems fun. I think Ruby might have an edge over her sisters looks-wise, but it's close.

So I guess that you got your boarding school glitch cleared up? Or found some way to get the girls back home, anyways.

Well, looks-wise I think I'd root for Pearl or Ruby, because I think their lip shape is very unique and cute. Onyx seems must suitable personality-wise, though.

Re: the comments - this chapter should give you a better idea of the girls' personalities.  Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

------

The girls were thrilled to be back together again.  During boarding school, it had been all online chat and the occasional visit from Beryl or Riordan or to see each other.  Those had been long days and they'd missed each other a lot.

August 29:

PearlDrop: I miss you guys.  I cried the whole ride
RubyRed:  Don't cry, Pearly.  We will chat every day!  Maybe have a nice run.  It always makes me feel better.
LadyNoir: I felt sad too, Pearly.  I chose a nemesis as soon as I got here.  You should do the same.
PearlDrop:  I think I'll just write mommy and make some brownies.
LadyNoir: Lame
RubyRed: Double Lame.  Send us some.

Now that they were back, it was time for their mom to get married and for them to meet the Clojo boys properly.  The wedding and a day of skipped school was in order.  Filly's first instinct was to shout at David for wearing his favorite outfit, but then Corren pointed out that she was still in a wedding dress, so fair is fair.

October 6

PearlDrop: Did you guys get the cookies I sent?  Brand new recipe!
RubyRed: Yes!  I gained a pound and my lacrosse coach shouted at me.
LadyNoir: Don't U worry about that coach, Red.  Pearly, cookies were A+
PearlDrop: I'm making cobbler next!

The kids grouped off.  David and Ruby made snowmen.  Pearl and Paul went sight-seeing.  And Onyx destroyed any winter happiness she came across at the park.  It was a pretty good beginning.  So far no overt competition had begun.

October 20

RubyRed: I'm having a weird week
PearlDrop: How come?
RubyRed: My lacrosse coach went missing.  Same weekend mom and Onyx came to visit.  No one knows what happened.
PearlDrop:  Weird.

Paul was all sweaty palms and trembling voice as he showed Pearl the landmarks of Dragon Valley.  She was immediately smitten with the view.

Meanwhile, the guests arrived.  David was particularly excited to see Laura Carol.  He whispered to her secrets about a fun place that only he knew about and a special friend she'd get to meet someday.

November 25

LadyNoir: Feast Day isn't as good without your cooking.
PearlDrop: Aw. :(  Ruby and Mom say hi
LadyNoir: Send them my love.  Actually!  Tell Ruby I'm learning lacrosse.  I have a private instructor.
PearlDrop: At Smuggsworth?  I thought they hated when you get dirty
LadyNoir: It's more like a private trainer.

Onyx was particularly happy with her own snowman.  Then again, she had obliterated the competition.

December 13

RubyRed: Morning, Nyx!  Hey, whatever happened to your nemesis?
LadyNoir: Which one?
RubyRed: Never mind.

The wedding was a beautiful affair.  The first snows gave a magical feel to the whole event and seeing everyone together again was the perfect way to ring in the girls' homecoming.

David exhibited a rare case of awareness of his surroundings.  Filly felt oddly touched.  Or maybe she was still just giving the hairy eyeball to his outfit.

They would be moving into the Mithrillan manor with their parents at the end of the day and were excited about the upcoming adventure.  Paul gave himself a cold dose of water to get his head back in the game.

David took a less traditional approach and popped out of a frozen hedge as Onyx passed by.

I mean.  Who could resist?

He's a risk taker, that David, but Onyx doesn't like being startled.

January 2

RubyRed: Do you ever wish you were a genie like me and Nyx?
PearlDrop: A little.  It would make cleaning a lot easier!
RubyRed:  We could turn you into one, you know.
PearlDrop:  No thank you.  I'm a pretty good human, like mom.  Or ... maybe I could be a fairy instead like Uncle Wolfy.
RubyRed:  Uncle Wolfy is a wet noodle.
PearlDrop:  I like noodles.

After some apologies and wheedling, Onyx forgave David and invited the boys to join in a snowball fight between mother and daughter.  Paul and Beryl were victorious.

At this point, Onyx was more impressed by Paul, Paul was into Pearl, and David was under the impression that all three girls were the same person.

That's when the boys aged up.  Onyx chose Paul to root for while David went back to his frozen hedge for sparkles.

David aged up beautifully.  Insane as he may be, he fits the Clojo irresistability to a T.  For some reason, every single one of his default birthday outfits involved a kilt.  So the Watcher just went with it.

Paul is incredibly fit from all the working out he did as a teen, but you'd never know because he aged up as Father Christmas.

Better.

It was Snowflake Day that got everyone together again, a little later in the week.

At this point, Paul had heard that Ruby was maybe the best fit for him, being also very athletic.  Pearl was displeased with this.

Ruby didn't even seem to care!  Pearl really wanted to marry a Clojo, but now she felt invisible.  That's probably because she wasn't paying much attention.

Attempts to communicate with David were all in vain.

Ruby was so far the only one who had successfully interacted with David, and that had mostly been accomplished by throwing snowballs at him and repeating the word "snowman."  And had resulted in a snowman, yes, but David also inquiring about a fishing trip that had never happened.

Onyx didn't care.  She just liked bullying Wolfgang.

Well, at least that's what everyone thought.

February 19

RubyRed:  Thanks for the lacrosse stick, Nyx!  I don't know how you found one like this.  It looks exactly like my old instructor's.
LadyNoir:  I have my ways, Red.  I can't wait to play you after the term ends.
PearlDrop:  Can I play too?
RubyRed:  You'll get all scuffed up, Pearly.  Probably best if you just keep score.
PearlDrop:  Do you think David and Paul will watch you play?  I'd hate to be overlooked ...
LadyNoir: We're the granddaughters of a dragonslayer, Pearly.  No one overlooks us.
RubyRed: Even so, you two should just be prepared for them to fall in love with me.  It's inevitable.  Have you seen my abs?
PearlDrop: Nonsense.  Have you tasted my lobster thermidor?
LadyNoir: Just let them decide.  My sisters should never be exposed to my competitive nature.
PearlDrop: ...
RubyRed:  Sometimes you scare us, Nyx
LadyNoir:  Good.  I love you both.

Waves Team Onyx flag! I'm sticking to the ship! Ruby seems a little too powerful to let her in the game, plus Pearl and Paul are alliteration. Ruby must be obliterated and cast out from the game. Onyx deserves to mother the heir.

Woah, when did I get so evil?  :o

Haha, I love them all! And the way you told this update, with them messaging each other. Just wonderful. Can't wait to watch the drama and romance unfold.
