Wolfgang finally got up the courage to go back to the Clojo house. It'd be a lot of explaining, but he'd somehow manage.
However, when his sister answered the door, all of his justifications withered on his tongue. He'd been selfish and stupid and that's all there was to that.
He explained the stuff about David befriending Death and how he'd asked to start a family of his own. The details he left out. When Beryl announced her engagement to the object of Wolfy's affection it was all he could do to force his enthusiasm at her happiness.
Beryl suspected the truth though. She made it her personal mission to ensure that her brother would be happy in his new home, with his daughter.
They both felt like things would be okay afterall.
It wasn't a moment too soon. As Beryl made visits to her family, she was growing one of her own.
She was hoping for a girl and eating watermelons to ensure one. She wanted her child to be a potential spouse for David Clojo. Crazy he might be, but handsome and talented too.
Beryl went into labor on the first day of fall. She indeed had a girl. And then another. And then another. Triplet girls. A very big surprise for the Clojos, the Carols, and the Watcher.
This rendered the Clojo house full, which means Beryl was unable to marry Riordan and move her family into the Mithrillan mansion. This was unfortunate. But the Clojos are nothing if not adaptable.
Toddler skills commenced in earnest. Pearl Carol was the artistic, dainty one. She loved pink and pretty things. She is artistic and a virtuoso. She is human.
Ruby is athletic and disciplined. She loves all things active and was a constant challenge around the modest Clojo house. She is a genie and has purple eyes.
Onyx is a flesh-toned genie. She is evil and eccentric and very, very smart. She learned her skills very quickly and was generally quiet and well behaved, though this was only to mask her early development scheming.
Their skills were a fly-by and the birthdays arrived as soon as possible.
Boarding schools were chosen to help develop these potential dynasty spouses into accomplished young ladies while also keeping the house drama free while David works on his skills.
Pearl was enrolled in an artistic retreat.
Choosing the perfect fit for her was not a challenge.
Ruby had a hard time choosing between the military academy and the sports school. In the end, she went for sports.
She was too young to build an athletic skill, so fantasy football inhabited her short time as a child in the Clojo house.
Onyx is off to Prep School. Power and prestige are in her future.
She discovered the hidden door in the basement before her first hour as a child was complete.
She was also fiendishly delighted when she saw the line of cars to take them to their respective education facilities.
She wished her sisters happy riding in their taxi cabs. Beryl only cried a little. At least she still had one baby to play with.
Meanwhile, David did what he does. His sculpting has a definite repetitive theme to it.
Sometimes he gets artistic with his representation of Stool.
On Spooky Day, he dressed up like a rock star and asked Deirdre Brown to prom. She said "oh yes, yes yes!" Because he's gorgeous and unpredictable and teen girls can't resist that combination.
There are no other teen girls to ask that the Watcher is aware of, so Paul is going stag. He will at least be buff doing it.
Not that his superior physical strength is a match for his brother's random bouts of lunacy. This was unprovoked:
The lunacy might even be contagious. Filly has had a hard time remembering to wear clothes lately.
Either way, the household has taken some very unexpected turns this generation. The Watcher suspects David would have it no other way.
