Paul might have been the cuter toddler, but I think that David is just plain adorable as a child. I love insane kids.

Betyl still filled out a tiny bit more as a young adult. She grew up really well! Is there a future for her and David? ;) I know that she's older, but that's nothing a regular tattoo/makeover/whatever can't fix.

I feel like Beryl and Wolfgang should learn athletics or get a body sculptor or something... :o

Oh man, I think this is going to be the most interesting generation yet!

Is the name Pieta referencing the Michelangelo sculpture or just the artistic motif in general? Or neither?
I'm not pedantic! I just believe in precision of language.

Beryl is not really concerned with the plottings of the Watcher.  We'll see what she decides for herself.  I agree, though.  Paul lost his advantage as soon as they aged up.

So far, it has been.

What are the sparkles in this image from?

An aura being cast by Wolfgang, who had just walked past them.

David and his doll are both named for his planned skill.

------
Being older definitely had its advantages.  For one, Beryl was well on her way to becoming the famous singer she so desperately wanted to be.

And Wolfgang ... well, he felt very grown up indeed.  Though he desperately wanted a purple dragon, his loving libations to his egg resulted in the armored black one.  It's a shame, really.  Wolfgang loved purple.

Plus it threw a wrench in his plans.  He had been working hard at befriending Toni Mithrillan.  He needed an "in" with the family.

It was much easier than he could've anticipated.  Which might've been because Toni was helplessly attracted to him.

Because of this, when his true intentions were revealed by an oh-so-subtle inquiry into her brother, Riordan's, relationship status, Toni felt something akin to boiling rage.

Though to be fair, it's her own fault for ever thinking he was into women.

She introduced them anyway.  What harm could it do?  Her werewolf brother was pretty strictly heterosexual.

Not to be deterred, Wolfgang invited his crush home, hoping he would be lured in by the appeals of a dynasty home.  Sadly, he was lured in by something else entirely.

Now, our heir, David, was an astute fellow.  He saw what was going on immediately.  And knew exactly how the fancy fairy in his home was going to react to it.

David had been growing into quite the little manipulator.  Not in a malicious way, but when your brother is on the shorter end of the intellect stick, you learn pretty quickly how to make people do the things you want.

With Paul, it was mostly breaking into the seemingly abandoned manor on the far edge of town, that belonged to a mysterious friend of David's that no one was ever allowed to meet.

They'd dig through the catacombs, collecting gems and bugs, and David would always treat his brother to a rousing ghost story as a reward.  Paul didn't think this was a very good reward, in all honesty, and neither did the butler, who had to wash his soiled underthings.

David got bored with his brother's lack of curiosity after a while.  Since his parents acted ignorant about the house even existing, he felt like he wouldn't get in trouble if he went back on his own, and often.  He knew that telling anyone the truth would just be chalked up to his insanity.

But, when he saw that schmoozing hussy Beryl moving in on Wolfgang's target, he felt a flash of sympathy.  It may have also been a flash of opportunity, but David is a child and not really fond of complex emotional puzzles.

He spent a lot of time debating the solution.  He may or may not also have debated what he could get out of it.

In the end, he approached Wolfgang and confided in him about his special friend.  "He can help!" David insisted.  "I'll give you directions to his house if you give me some fairy dust."

Wolfgang was a nice boy, but maybe more like Paul than like David.  He believed the insane little boy without a second question.

In the dead of night, when the household was asleep, he slipped from his fairy house to investigate David's promise.  It took some doing, but he worked up the courage and knocked on the door.  It was Death who answered, and he appeared to be entertaining a mysterious fat old man in a tracksuit.  It was possibly a bad time.

Wolfgang was understandably nervous.  He began to stutter out his situation.  Dynasty house, lost love, wants family.  It was when the old man moved out of the way and he spotted Death's other house guest that he lost his train of thought entirely.

He'll never be entirely sure what happened next.  But, he did know that it hurt.

In a daze, he walked into the house to retrieve the little boy and drag him home, barely aware of the fact that he was now in his skivvies.

He didn't ask any questions.  It had been a mistake to listen to the crazy kid.  And he felt really bloated besides.  At least David came quietly.  He left him at the doorstep and descended into Ava's old basement, wanting a real bed for a change.

David himself wasn't sure exactly what message Death had gotten from Wolfy's ramblings.  But he wasn't really particularly worried.

Weee!

Very funny!

Thanks!

Why worry when you can fly?

Wolfgang's subplot has me intrigued!

David isn't a worrier.

Oh goodness, what a mischievous little imp! He'll make a fine (and interesting) heir!

That's what I'm hoping for.  I admit I'm better suited to immortals who can continue to develop over generations.

----

Beryl was so happy with Riordan that it never occurred to her that something might be amiss with her twin brother.

And, honestly, what's the harm in it?  The girl was having her moment.

Meanwhile, Wolfgang felt strangely light for having gained so much weight.

Maybe it was his complacency that kept making him bigger still.

John and Sophia discussed it at times, but ultimately what could they do?  He was a grown boy.  And they had a lot of time to make up for.

Meanwhile, David continued enjoying his heir status.  It didn't exactly occur to him that he had carte blanche around town to act as weird as he wanted, but the awareness of it had seeped into his bones over the course of his short life.

Paul wouldn't go to the abandoned mansion anymore, so David took his revenge in passive aggressive ways, like sending his brother upstairs for his favorite book only to hijack bedtime story precedence.

He made the most of Sophia's maxed out logic too, though she felt that her very core of logical thinking was challenged by David's bizarre little mind.

Filly and Sophia spent time planning Beryl's upcoming nuptials.  "Do you think she's pregnant?" Sophia whispered at one point.  "John and I can't try for a baby right now ... though I suppose it could always be you!"

To which Filly giggled and insisted it wasn't.

Only David knew the truth, but of course everyone ignored his ramblings.  Well, until ...

The source of Wolfgang's weight gain suddenly made itself known.  Its name was Laura.

Sophia panicked.  The ultra logical side of her worried that her son had kidnapped someone's baby, but it also couldn't account for the rapid weight loss.  The truly alarming thing was the moment that Wolfy realized that Riordan wasn't even the other parent of the child.  Death had massively misunderstood his stuttering complaints.

Sophia didn't have much time to puzzle this out.  She suspected at least one involved party in this bizarre misfortune.

That's how it came to be that Sophia and Wolfgang stole away in the night with the baby.  They didn't even leave a note.  Such was the level of Sophia's panic.  Beryl and John tried for weeks to figure out what had happened to no avail.

Paul was devastated, being the only child in the house surprised by the strange turn of events.  His ever-doting father was very comforting about the whole ordeal.

Months passed without sight or sound of Sophia and Wolfgang.  The boys had their birthdays at home with the remaining members of the family.

The girls at Dragon Valley High didn't stand a chance.

Paul took over the basement room so David could have his rightful space as heir.  Morgana's old space was barely recognizable.

So David got to work on his requirements, becoming completely oblivious to those around him.

It's a shame really.  The things going on in his family would have delighted him.  Whether it was the Watcher Beryl accidentally hitting Riordan with the wrong potion and turning him into a genie, then ignoring him entirely while he aged down from the second potion.

He missed all the disgusting mother-son daredevil bonding one-upmanship.

And, most dramatically, he missed Filly's lucky glimpse into a lit window on one of her midnight rides with Centari.

That would have been of particular interest to him.  He had always wanted a little sister.

Not out of any fraternal protectiveness, you understand.  Mostly because women are good sculpting subjects.  And the stool he currently had was proving rather boring to emulate.

David is certainly a unique character! My goodness, I must admit I am thoroughly confused by the whole Wolfgang business. Poor chap!

Oh gosh, haha! Poor guy. He just can't catch a break. Well, that's certainly one way to pollinate the town!

Wolfgang will be making some apologies in the near future, but if there's anything you need cleared up, just let me know.
