Ooooo nice.  You go Clover!

:)

It's good to see that Clover is truly her parents daughter, heh! Patty's everyday outfit and hair look awesome, by the way. The prom outfits are just wow. You see, EA, if you won't give us good prom clothes, we're going to get wacky and creative!

Haha, when I bought the movie stuff pack, I was sure all of the super hero stuff would go to waste.  But seeing that it's available for teens, here we come themed prom!

----

Freddie Clojo had been thinking a lot lately.

This was a change for Freddie.  It wasn't that he was a stupid man.  Much the opposite, but he had a pretty casual approach to life and didn't think brooding and taxing oneself over the mortal coil was a very good use of his time.

Freddie had always danced through life.  And now he had someone to dance with.

Freddie had been in love before.  Oh, yes.  Many times.  He loved Silvia.  He loved Eden.  He'd even loved Rosetta and harbored secret fantasies of sweeping her away when he reached young adulthood.  He'd loved a great many people.

What he felt for Shawnya was something else.  It was recognition.  She was his other half.

But how to tell her that?  Freddie wasn't the best at expression.  A trait his daughter had unfortunately inherited.

His other daughter ... well, Elodie wasn't a girl he worried about.

Freddie saw every youthful impulse in his youngest daughter that he'd always known he carried in himself.  She was wild and flirtatious and beautiful.  So, so beautiful.

It was funny.  He'd always trusted his eldest daughter, Eureka, to make her decisions wisely.  Any serious parental conversations were handled by her mothers and grandmothers.

Clover had been nose-to-grindstone in her requirements.  Sam had Desi.  Elodie ... well, she was a pretty pink question mark, now, wasn't she?

Freddie didn't believe in rage, but suddenly he had the urge to throttle a great many age inappropriate men in Isla Paradiso.  He wrote a thoughtful letter to his son-in-law, Humberto, about the matter.

Humberto's response was swift and unhelpful:

It's your genes, Freddo.  Serves you right.  Eureka sends her love.

- Humbug

PS - Worrying is a waste of time.  She'll find her way.  I promise.

Freddie supposed old Humbug had a point.  At least this daughter could burrow herself into the ground if danger approached.

His other children were creatures of love too, after all.  And he didn't worry about them.  Even the one in love with an evil doll.

Or the one who'd bought into the sham of monogamy.

To his horror, Freddie found Clover's engagement ... sweet.  He found it somewhat ... enviable.  Freddie had lots of feelings on the matter.

And in his eternal habit of procrastination, Freddie got old before he could figure himself out.

Shawnya and Sam missed the birthday because she'd frozen solid at the love day festival.

Later, she'd say she was just glad she turned blue AFTER the photo op.

But near-death experiences aside, she still did a full veto on Freddie's elder look - the first attempt.

Freddie came to terms with it.  He didn't mind island style, really.

And his Shawnya wasn't far behind him on the age train.

When Freddie saw her as an elder, he thought his heart would come crashing out through his feet.  He knew for certain in that moment that she was his soul mate.  And that realization called everything Freddie knew about the world into question.

Shawnya Clojo knows her family.  She knew something was amiss with her partner and summer was here anyway, so she declared it a beach day.

Watching the family that was all hers frolic and laugh brought Shawnya the kind of joy she'd never known possible.  She sat on her towel and composed a second letter to her son, Darcy, announcing Clover's engagement and begging for photos of the grandchildren.

She thought it was possibly a perfect moment.

Kyle was visiting and had gone out on the boat with Clover when it started to rain.

Always pragmatic, Shawnya gathered the towels and sent everyone back toward Fire Island, only to realize her house keys were missing.

"Freddiebear, have you seen my ... oh goodness."

He'd gotten down on one knee.  Was arthritis kicking in?  Should she call the hospit...was that a RING?

"Shawnya," Freddie said, his voice husky with uncertainty.  "Will you buy into the sham of human ownership with me?"

Shawnya didn't know her old body could leap the way it did in that moment.  She thought she'd fly right off the sand.  Of course she'd marry him.  Of course!

She couldn't wait to tell the children.  First, Sam and Desi had their birthdays though.  Shawnya arranged a big fat party and didn't steal their thunder.

She had come to love Desi very much and couldn't wait until she was officially her daughter.

Sam became an absolute knockout hunktastico.  That's the Watcher's opinion.  Not Shawnya's.  He became family oriented and decided that he wanted to be a doctor.

Desi became a klepto.  The family was okay with it.

Her favorite color was white, but having such a dark side, she maintained the black and white color scheme she'd chosen in her prom outfit.

Sam and Desi finally got to spend the night together in the same bed.  Neither of them ever slept better.

Clover thought it was amazing how much things could change while also staying the same.  She was preparing for her upcoming nuptials both emotionally and physically.  She'd already re-decorated for it.

And her parents were getting married too!  How strange.  She never thought she'd see the day.

But the two of them really hadn't changed all that much.  Mom still charmed and schmoozed and laughed with contagious abandon.  Dad still cried over dead plants and found the most creative ways to slack in his gardening.

Clover wondered how Kyle would fit into the family dynamic once he'd moved permanently to Isla Paradiso.

On the Sparkling Sands beach, one of the first properties purchased by the Clojo hoard, a chapel had been constructed over the water.

Tonight it would see its first wedding.  And what a first!

Her parents' vows were the strangest things she'd ever heard.  Lots of talk about immortality and sidelines and finding perfection in each other.

She was moved by it.

Though not as moved as her fiance.

The eruption of cheers that rocked the chapel in the moment that a wedding ring slid onto Freddie Clojo nee Classic's finger was a sound Clover would carry with her for the rest of her life.

Whether it was a roar of approval or just surprise, she never knew for sure.

She wasn't sure her parents heard it at all.

As the rice began to fly into the air, Freddie backed away and blew a saucy kiss at his new bride.  She squealed and preened and the two of them danced their way back down the aisle.

Clover wasn't sure why it made her cry, but she sobbed for the rest of the night.  For the years to come, she would describe those sobs of some of the happiest in the history of the world.

Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Clojo.

Oh goodness, I actually got all teary! Freddie Classic . . . married? How unexpected and just absolutely, incredibly adorable!! I did not see that coming! Freddiebear have you seen my . . . oh, no, is that arthritis of yours kicking in or---a RING? Hehehehe. And the blowing a kiss right afterwards, soooo cute! Sam, Desi, and Elodi are all lovely. Unsurprisingly, Sam is turning out comparably as hunky as his dad.  ;)

That was the cutest and most appropriate proposal. Wow. Loved the whole thing. How sweet. I join in the shock that Freddie got married--none of us ever thought we'd see the day!

Adapting to Change
« Reply #54 on: September 30, 2013, 10:32:24 PM »
Thanks everyone!  I debated long and hard about marrying Freddie off, but honestly, I can't imagine there's a better match for him out there anywhere at all in the Simsverse.  Same goes for our flirty former genie.

----

If anyone asked, for the rest of her life, Clover would say only that Desi made a unique bride.

Truth be told, she supported her brother's marriage whole heartedly.  There was something deliciously forbidden about marrying an evil supernatural criminal with purple hair.

Elodie was less than impressed.

But, Sam and Desi didn't notice, and even if they had, it wouldn't have mattered.  To the two of them, only the other had ever existed.

The wedding was more of an inevitability than a romantic gesture.  They were just legalizing what always had been.

Sam and Desi.  Forever.

Of course Sam did have to decline a ritual sacrifice as wedding fanfare in favor of an all-night dance party.  Desi had some strange ideas lingering from her former lives.

When chimes rang through the early dawn at the Clojo house, it just seemed like another inevitability.

Elodie thinks pregnancy is absurd.  Then again, she is an asexual plant.

Speaking of which, Freddie spotted this toddler in the alchemy store recently.  Could it be?  Townie reproduction?  Does anyone recognize the dad?  Tell me I'm not dreaming!

Dad does look pretty clone-y, so probably not.  But a watcher can dream.  Besides, the unexpected happens all the time.

Of course, the family is all for surprises.  They are from changeable stock, after all.

And a nooboo would lighten the monotony around the Clojo household while Clover paints and climbs the science field.

Who's the father, you ask?  Well, it's a funny story.  After a bit too much nectar on Desi and Sam's wedding night, Patty ensorceled an old family friend.

The plan had been just to steal his spaceship and his sweet cane (the space ship, sadly did not survive the charm).  But, Patty ended up getting rather more out of the bargain.

And for that matter, so did everyone else.

She does!  But she was also attracted to him and kept rolling wishes to have a baby, so I obliged.  She asked to just be friends before the baby was born, though.  He was understanding(ish)

Oh, I cannot wait to see what a half-alien half-genie nooboo looks like! I hope it's blue and has huuuuge alien eyes. Desi's evil pose at the wedding was great. And Elodie: who yawns at a sim wedding? I don't think I've ever seen a guest yawn at one, but Elodie apparently doesn't understand marriages anymore than pregnancy.

Oh man, that would've been amazing.  Unfortunately, I think alien genes are extra, super strong.  In my lifestates dynasty attempt, ALL of the children inherited their dad's coloring.  Same happened here, as you'll see.

I really love Elodie.  She has no sense of propriety and it's wonderful.

---

Patty came to a decision in the later days of her pregnancy.

When the baby was born, she wanted to start her own family in a home of her own.  Shawnya was extra supportive, but the others felt she was somehow abandoning them.  After a lot of explaining, she managed to make them understand.  It was time.

Life moves on and room had to be made.  Case in point was Elodie's young adult birthday taking everyone by surprise.

Right at the moment that poor Patty went into labor, too.

Shawnya drove her to the hospital.  She spent the time in the waiting room admiring photos of her eldest granddaughter, sent with love from her son.  The letter was crinkled from repeated readings, but she read it again and again anyway.

Hello mom,

Enclosed is a picture of my darling Ada; isn't she just the cutest? She's two now, bordering on three, and has quickly become the apple of my eye. Doreen, of course, is already hankering for another. She swirled around this morning and got the beginnings of a baby bump, so it looks like she's getting her wish!

I'm so glad you're doing well. You deserve it--you and dad both do--to find someone more compatible. Not everyone gets to be as lucky as me and get it right the first time! And why wouldn't I approve of you dating Freddie? It's Freddie! Everyone loves the man! I can see why you suit each other so well; you have a lot in common. Oh, and can you believe it? His ex-girlfriend Silvia is dating my daughter Lilith! I also heard this weird rumor that the two of you had gotten married. Can you believe it! "HAH!" I said. "You don't know my mother very well!" How do these ridiculous rumors get started anyway?

I wish you guys could all come visit; I want to meet all of my new siblings! Freddie would just love our horses Jake and Darla. You'd like it here, too, I bet. The sun is always warm and orange here in Monte Vista, like your Island Paradiso. Although, about that, I've actually decided to take a page out of your book and be, well, a little more changeable! We're moving, so that Ada can grow up with all the other kids that are springing up in the family. I've . . . I've also decided to become a genie, mom. Like you used to be. I picked up the vial yesterday at the consignment shop. As I write, it's just sitting there on my desk, staring at me. I confess I'm both nervous and excited.

Give this little sister of mine, Clover, a big congrats for me on her engagement. Tell her I can't wait to meet her and all my other new siblings. Once I get settled into the new place, I'll send you my address, and you can all come and visit me anytime.

Lots of love,
Darcy

Her son, a genie!  She could see it now.  He'd look proper dashing in a turban.  Oh, and grandchildren.  She liked to fancy that her grandbaby looked just like her at that age, even down to the skintone.

She'd have to write back soon.  And make sure Clover kept it up in her absence.  She felt very proud.  Proud and bittersweet that she wasn't there to cuddle little Ada.

Back home, Elodie was fitting herself into her new young adult wardrobe.

She particularly loved her formalwear, though it made Freddie sigh.

This was also the moment that the watcher realized that Elodie has no belly button.  Right on, I suppose.  Why would she?

She was ready for young adulthood.

Or her interpretation of it anyhow.

With Patty's departure, she immediately took to Patty's room.  She seemed perplexed at Desi's insistence that it was a bit insensitive.  And coming from Desi that really meant something.  But she was feeling a bit more vulnerable these days.

Hopefully she took to early parenthood better than Patty, who honestly didn't much enjoy the nooboo phase with her entirely alien son, Dylan.

She did move into a fantastic new house, though.  And nearby!

Sam was extra excited about his impending fatherhood.  Being family oriented like his own dad, he couldn't wait to share the news.

Freddie was pleased to receive the good news after attempting to explain to Elodie about jobs and adult responsibility.  She had rolled the chidish trait due to her B in school.  Jobs were not something that processed.

"She can work with me in the garden," he finally sighed, pointedly ignoring his wife's stifled chuckles.

"She is just a piece of you, you know," Shawnya said with barely contained seriousness.  "A clone, almost."

"Ugh," said Freddie.

Elodie was interested in adult romance, and had no shortage of suitors.  Though she found many of their rather human downfalls off-putting.

On a whim she decided to try her luck with Patty during a visit.  That didn't go well.

"I changed your diapers!" Patty said, in shock.

"No you didn't, I don't have bladder needs," Elodie said, perplexed.

The family pointedly ignored the special interest the steak plant in the foyer had in her.  It was just too weird.

Sam's medical background made him both insufferable and adorable during Desi's pregnancy.  He was practically bursting out of his skin to meet his nooboo.

Freddie would've loved his grandbaby.  If he'd managed to stick around long enough to see her.  but, as in his last life, he died the instant he maxed out his age bar.

His last thoughts were of his son.  "Be a good dad," he said in his final moment.  "it's important."

It was important.  Clover knew that it was because she'd had a great dad.  She'd had Freddie.

Shawnya was inconsolable.
