Then you know what? The weird thing about them is that there's nothing weird that we can find about them.
The clues make me feel like there should be something strange about them.  It's one thing to be the weird ones because they're normal, but then why did they hint about a former basement?  And why did the son storm off in the interview promo?

I guess it could just be back story and there isn't anything strange about them in the game.  It would be rather disappointing, though.  I'm enjoying playing them anyway-- trying to find a good place for a 4th bedroom is oddly hard in such a huge house.  There's very little space to add one without ruining the outside of the house.

One completely unrelated thing about the Does that I've noticed is that they're all very smiley. All of them. So, if you want happy looking Sims, have nooboos with the Does  :P

I'll post my thoughts later. :)

But, I just had the coolest idea!! What if you opened a sort of gift shop on your resort?? Wouldn't that be cool and fun? Like, you could sell umbrellas and different Knick knacks! Just a cool thought that passed my mind!! Anyone up for it?

Absolutely! That's actually something I thought of right off, gift shops--'I love a little shop'--but not on a resort, that's a good idea.

Has anyone found out what's "weird" about the Doe family yet?  I can't figure it out!  There aren't any spaces where it looks like a staircase could have been for the basement mentioned in the bio.  My best guess is that it has to do with the Mom being pregnant.

With Jane being pregnant, I thought maybe she would have a child to someone other than John, maybe a vampire or werewolf but the baby is John's and is normal.
One odd thing is that John touts Jane as being the perfect wife, yet she has no skill points in anything, not even cooking while John has cooking skill and the older son has mastered gardening.

Someone on the official forum said something about the story 'Stepford Wives' perhaps giving a bit of insight, but I'm unfamiliar with that movie.

Stepford wives was about a town where all the women did as their husbands said without questioning it, they were all lovely to each other, no arguing, no fighting. Turned out that the real women had been replaced with robots, although obviously that cannot be the case here. Heh.

I was thinking that Jane's baby might be someone else's, too.  I ran through a whole bunch of scenarios, but didn't come up with anything feasible.  I looked for hidden tomb spaces, I looked for evidence of a basement, I looked in the upper roof area.  I also checked out the family tree for anything screwy.  I keep Googling, hoping someone will find something!

The only thing odd that I could find was that the oldest son has so many skill points.  Like Twinmum said, he mastered gardening, and I believe he has 2-4 points in logic, handiness, and cooking as well.

I think I got it. I know what's so weird/spooky/strange about them. It's the same reason Bella Goth disappeared.

It's because EA wants to mess with us. (It's that or the entire Doe family are serial killers. But that's not a family friendly topic. ;))

I haven't bought this yet, but I will soon. One question for those with the world: Have you found any lots with the beautiful vista moodlet?

None of the empty lots have it (unless I've missed it) but every lot so far gives the beautifully decorated moodlet even without anything on the lot.

Thanks, Twinmum! I knew the Yates family was the Bates, but I hadn't realized that the house was a replica.

I've also heard of the theory in official forum that they might be the ones who killed the ghost family next door, the basement is used to bury the bodies and therefore nowhere to be seen in the game (perhaps also because basement is exclusive feature to ambitions EP?)
I love the Stepford wives theory here as a I do love how in that movie, women have creepy, unnatural smile all over their faces, creating an unrealistic illusion of ideal wives, perfect families, quite like the Joe family here. It could also mean that Jane is a replacement of the original Jane therefore no skill as robot is not a base game life state.
Anyway I think the family has great story potential to be played out with:)

When the son stormed out it seemed to me that it was because he was upset about moving. Maybe something happened in their old town so they had to leave abruptly. Also, basements came with the patch, I don't have WA or AMB, but I have basements.

I have some screenshots before and after I reinstalled Midnight Hollow. I think you can see the difference, before it used to be much more darker.
