Sim avatar is corrupted - appears as image of static noise

Suddenly I have this glitch - portraits of my sims appear as glitched images of "static noise".

It first happened when I picked a forbidden fruit and it turned out to be a baby - its "avatar" was glitched, but I thought it would fix itself when it aged - it did not. Now I have a new member - a SimBot and he has a bad portrait as well. No idea what could have caused thsi. But apparently it happens when a new active sim is generated, this only happens after I have moved my family to a new home in the same neighbourhood (a slightly big home).

Saving the household to the bin and later replacing them in the same or a new game does not fix thsi.

The first thing that comes to mind is, do you have any not yet updated mods or bad CC? Those two things are known to cause all sorts of strange graphic glitches.

Oh, sorry, I forgot to add that I do not have any custom content what so ever, none, nill, zilch. I use the "No Intro" "mod", but I have downloaded the latest version, compatable with my game, which is also updated to the most recent version. I also use the "NRAAS" master controller mod (also the most recent version, compatable, etc.) from time to time, but this happened only after I have moved my household to a new home, that is the only major change that has occured, I have used the same mods before and when adding sims to the household their avatars were fine.

Also editing a bugged sim in CAS and saving them to the bin results in the saved sim having the same glitched image.


P.S.
Some gem and metal icons are also glitched in the same way.

If you haven't already, you could try doing a Factory Reset, that's quick and easy, and creates a completely new and clean The Sims 3 folder. If you try that, do not transfer any of your mods, saves, library content, or anything else that you have created yourself, just start a new game and see what happens, if the glitch is still there.

I did a factory reset, forgot to start a new family (and it would have been too much hasstle), copied my save and the problem was still there but after triggering an age transition my plantsim's avatar was fixed, trying the same on the SimBot (who became a ghost) also fixed his avatar. The glitched gems and metals along with  with thte ones that were ok had all their icons replaced by a strange tiny icon of a black toilet. Anyway, after reverting to my old "The Sims 3" folder I found out that age transitioning my two glitched sims fixed their avatars. For now I will just wait for my plantsim to grow and will have to trigger an age trasition on the SImBot and later ressurect it.

Have you also tried deleting the four cache files (compositorCache.package, simCompositorCache.package, CASPartCache.package and scriptCache.package), and the Thumbnails folder?

Thank you, I did but there was no change, what so ever. Excemp maybe some of the gems/metals that were fine now are also glitched, not sure.

Just now I started my save and wanted to place some stairs, it seems that whenever the game is called to make a new thumbnail image for an objects, due to some error it creates these "static noises", which are all the same. So I decided to do a Factory Reset and copy my save to start fresh. After I did the factory reset I tried to start a new game and see if it has the same problems, I started a game in Apaloosa Plains and chose one from the premade households. When the game started half of the sims's avatars were glitched and when viewing stairts the game could not draw new icons and made all glitched ones, so it must be something from the game itself.

Does anyone have any advice or if not, do you think a reinstall would fix the issue, and if yes, how can I make my save (which I have played with "Island Paradise" installed) be playable without that expansion pack, considering I have not used anything from it?

Not everyone sees a thread or can offer any help.  Also, people who have already tried cannot always return to follow up.  I'm sorry, but there's no guarantee of getting answers as quickly as we would like.

Having said that, here is my own humble opinion.

Before doing a complete re-install, I suggest that you remove all mods, restart the game, and see if the same thing happens.  Even though you have them up-to-date, they can still be difficult.  Then if the game looks good without the mods, try adding them back one by one until you find the one that causes the problem.  If none of this works, then you're probably looking at a re-install.  Actually, periodic re-installs are healthy for the game.  I'm typically in the habit of doing one with each expansion that comes out.

Regarding your save file, if you aren't using the Island Paradise town or any of its content, you should have no problem playing your current file after doing the re-installation.  Just make sure you follow all the steps for a safe re-install and back up everything in your game.  You can find that information here.

If you decide to do an uninstall and reinstall, I have found updating each EP before installing the next one (only need to update this way up to the Generations EP) helped me when I was having weird things happening to my game last year.

I am so sorry but I spoke too soon. :X

I reinstalled the game, did a factory reset, restarted my computer, yet the prolem is still here.
I guess there is an error with the creation of icons, but I don't know how can it still be here, it is some sort of a core problem.
