No. EA isn't going to put stuff like that into their games. They want the widest appeal as possible. How would non-Christians feel about having Christmas and Easter stuff in a computer game?

I don't see why anyone would mind, you don't have to use it. There was Christmas stuff in earlier games too, wasn't there? And there's already some Halloween and Thanksgiving items, those are American holidays.

Anyway, my local internet game shop is selling a "Sims 3 Collectors Christmas Edition".
http://www.coolshop.dk/catalog/product/60975-sims-3-collectors-christmas--edition--for-pc

According to their blurb:
Quote
Includes everything the original collector's edition had and in addition:
All-new The Sims 3 Xmas song
6 Xmas themed decor items for your Sims
All-new Xmas The Sims 3 themed wallpaper

I'm hoping these items are offered for free in the store for those of us who already bought the game.

Maybe most players wouldn't mind. I was just thinking of maybe why they might not go in that direction. It's got to be simpler from a game design standpoint if you don't dive into religious themes.

------

EDIT: I just did a quick Amazon search and saw the big Sims 2 Happy Holiday expansion with all kinds of stuff. So, I stand corrected. Personally, I'd love to see something with a holiday theme down the road for Sims 3.

It's hard to make everyone happy and people seem to complain about everything, but this game has had Christmas and New Years in previous games so I'm glad they are making some Holiday Stuff for the people who want to use it for their Sims.  ;D

Thanks for the info PJSim, looks like some nice stuff. :D  I'm with you on hoping they offer it to the people who already have the base game!   :-\

Now those "gifts" better be free or I'm sending a stink bomb to Santa.

I don't really see the problem, I've never considered Christmas to be a religious holiday, same thing with Easter. I think Christmas and Easter are just as much a religious holiday as Halloween is, that is, not very much at all.

Perhaps someone from a different religion would be offended(and as such I can see the reason for "happy holidays" by Christmas, but a good 80-90% of Americans(I don't know about the UK) celebrate Christmas, while a much smaller percentage are Christians. I can honestly say I've only seen one atheist(who was on tv) complain about Christmas.

As for the whole Happy Holidays-Merry Christmas issue, both sides annoy me.

First, you've got the people who get deeply offended when someone says "Happy Holidays". They always say how anyone who gets offended by "Merry Christmas" should grow a thicker skin, and yet they are the ones who complain when someone wishes them a happy holiday.

Second, you've got the people who always say "Happy Holidays" because they don't want to offend anyone, yet "Merry Christmas" only offends a small percentage of Americans, while I know quite a few people(I'm sick of them) who foam at the mouth whenever the words "Happy Holidays" appears.

It's not so much what people say, it's just hypocrisy. If someone wants to say "Merry Christmas" go ahead, but don't bite my face off if I tell you "Happy Holidays".

If someone wants to say "Happy Holidays", again, go ahead, but don't act like you're better than me if I tell you "Merry Christmas".

Anyways, I don't know if politics belongs on a Sims forum, those are just my opinions. I can understand an international business like EA, who has a more diverse customer base, not wanting to offend a big amount of people, I just wish my country's  people(the U.S) would quite whining so much.

[Edit:  I'll allow this post for now, but please refrain from discussing politics on this forum and stay on topic.  Thanks!  -Pam]

With World Adventures out, they should have a December 25th holiday paying homage to the resurection of the Eqyptian God Osirus to rejoin his queen Isis to rule the underworld/heavens, leaving Horus to rule on Earth.

Would that offend anyone?

I'm guessing that's sarcasm, if it's not, ignore this post.

It probably wouldn't, several mmorpgs have themes similar to that, and many other games have Greek/Egyptian mythology as themes, or fictional gods. I remember almost every Zelda game has that in it.

Then again, the sims hasn't had themes like that before, so it could upset some people, but then again that's why they're optional downloads.

Yeah, I was just being fasicious due to the fact that nearly all celebrated Winter Solstice Holidays stem from the egyptian  festival celebrating the resurection of Osirus, regardless of religion.

Since they all come from the same source, how could celebrating that source offend anyone?

Or does that mean it's offensive to everyone?

Better just leave them out.

Maybe paint Christmas trees or Hanukka dradels on your screen and use spray on snow to get in the spirit ;)

I seem to recall that Sims2 had a Jewish-style 7 branch candlestick so maybe they'll add extra bits this time to suit other faiths.

I've always thought that the holiday decors look great but that without seasons to match them it seems a bit pointless.  Living in the northern hemisphere means that Christmas trees without snow just looks wrong to me, I guess if you live somewhere south of the equator it doesn't seem so strange.

Hope they bring out a seasons style EP for this one, I never got to play it in S2 and it looked so good.

Sorry, I didn't see that in the rules, I'll keep that in mind in the future.
