Old Walkthroughs (non-Sims related)
« on: September 06, 2013, 01:38:56 AM »
I suppose this is to folks who have been to my old site out of curiosity or to find help on another game.

I wanted to share that the site where the Guide originated, carlsguides.com has been trimmed of all low quality work. I chose to remove 350 or so pages and drop the site down to only 156. I may seem a bit crazy to throw thousands of hours of work out the window, but I was just never satisfied with the quality of that work once I set a new standard for my strategy guides. One problem is that I was writing walkthroughs only, rather than full strategy guides. When I started as a Webmaster I got in a huge rush to make a lot of pages and didn't investigate good strategies or even include pictures sometimes. Those pages helped me learn to get found by search engines, but I've taken off the training wheels the past few years and felt ashamed sometimes of how bad those pages were, when knowing very well that there were others on the web that deserved my spot. I've ended that dilemma for myself.

The site has been reduced from 25 walkthroughs to 5 strategy guides I'd put some love into at the time of writing. I hadn't done a count and was shocked that I had covered 27 games over the past 8 years (Oct 1, anyway) and now have 7 total. To do them right, I should have only had time for half that and the time to go back and improve those old pages has passed. To anyone ever doing projects like this, quality over quantity is always the way to go.

Some may be targets for re-release by companies. Homeworld is being done in HD and there is a new game for that franchise on the way. That may lead to me in turn improving some guides to these games, depending on time. Naturally I have not been a fool and completely deleted them...
