James Roland Alto was born in shame. He was born after one of the most shocking affairs to hit Sunset Valley in many years, between Agnes Crumplebottom, the town’s most desirable widow, and Nick Alto, married man and a key player in Sunset Valley’s rapidly expanding business empire. The pair tried to cover up the story for month but unfortunately for them, the media got hold of a photo and soon they were splattered all over the front pages of the news.

James was a troubled child. His mother, Agnes, had to raise him alone after Nick fled town. Nick’s business partners started to withdraw from his remaining companies and many workers lost their jobs. Unfortunately for James, this meant the children of these workers, who had suffered terribly financially, bullied him relentlessly.

The only comfort he had was during his fishing trips at the beach. Nothing gave him more pleasure than standing at the water’s edge, rod in hand, the sea breeze blowing through his hair...

His teenage years were spent alone, too, but in the library rather than by the ocean. However, he never lost his enthusiasm for fishing.

It was shortly after his mother’s death that he realised that this town had nothing left for him. He gazed up to the stars, as if they’d give him the answer he was searching for. As he stared, he saw a shooting star fly across the sky. It landed somewhere in the distance, beyond the mountains of his hometown. Then he knew.

So that night he ran away. He had no idea what awaited him down that winding road. But whatever it was, it was his destiny.

James: Hold it! Watcher, you’re making my life sound like some sort of Shakespearian tragedy! It really wasn’t that bad. I did well at school and had a great dog named --

That’s hardly going to make a good story, is it?

James: Well, anyway, where am I going?

It’s a surprise...

James: I hate surprises.

Thanks, Chetan! I was desperate to get the first story up so I wrote the prologue and first chapter in advance and even uploaded the screenshots yesterday. Glad you're excited and I hope you enjoy it! 


Chapter 1 - Arrival

So, James, here we are, Aurora Skies. And this is your house.

James: I’ve just been travelling for hours on end and you think a little red house is supposed to make me happy?

Hey, it’s the best I could get. It’s got a whopping 30x30 area of land!

James: *sarcastically* Fantastic.

I’m doing my best. Now, let’s go and find you a spouse!

James: Now this is a strange place for a doorbell.

Miriam Day: Hello there, my name is Miriam. Pleased to meet you.

James: Uh, hi.

(Come on, James! She’s a stunner and all you can say is ‘Uh hi’?)

James: I’m trying my best!

Miriam: I’m sorry?

James: Oh, nothing...

James and Miriam didn’t really hit it off. And then...

Miriam: Seriously man, what did you do that for? Get out!

James: This is awkward...

Let’s leave, James.

James: Good idea, Watcher.

Wait, wait, WAIT! Hold everything! Who’s that? Quick, ask her if she’s single! *looks up Fjord Warbler on Sims Wiki*

James: The name’s Newman. James Newman.

Fjord Warbler: Good to meet you James. I’m Fjord.

James (thinking): Fjord?! What were her parents thinking?

James (out loud): What a... unique name! Very special.

Fjord: Yes, I’ve always thought so. Excuse me, I need to go to the toilet.

Follow her!

James: Aw, common Watcher, I’m tired and hungry.

Follow her! NOW!

He got on a lot better with Fjord than he did Miriam. Maybe it’s because he didn’t launch a surprise kiss on her? Anyway, by the end of the evening, they were good friends. I can hear the wedding bells already...

James: What do you mean? I need to explore my options, find my true love...

Honey, we’ve got 4 days to get you a wife and try for a baby. There’s no time for exploration!

James: I hate this dynasty.

That’s what they all say, sweetie.

James headed off the lake to start fishing. He’s probably not going to do much else after his children become independent.

James: Great, I’m just here to create babies and then I’m going to spend the rest of my days fishing?

Pretty much, yeah. Oh, and make sure you’re happy about it.

James: How could anyone be happy about that?

The next day, James invites Fjord over and it seems she’s more into him than he is into her. I don’t think I’ve ever actually had a Sim outside the household flirt with one of my Sims first. It’s always the other way around.

Anyway, they cuddle...

They kiss...

And then she leaves! Arggggghhhh! (Watcher pulls hair out)

James: Let’s try again tomorrow.

I’m not finished pulling my hair out yet!

James: Okay, you do that. I’m going to bed.

The next day...

Okay, James. It seems Miss Warbler is still busy. Let’s try Plan B.

James: Hey, I love Plan B! I’ve got his album...

This is Fjord Seduction Plan B! And that plan is... a dragon!

James: Woah, so there’s a baby dragon in there?

Yes. Now talk to it about friends.

James: Huh?

JUST DO IT!

And what dragon does he get?

NOOOOO! I needed a purple dragon! Where is Spyro when you need him?

Day 3...

Fjord finally has time to come around and James wastes no time in proposing.

James: So, Fjord, we’ve known each other for 3 days, I can’t remember your second name, I don’t know any of your traits, I don’t even know where you live, but will you marry me?

Fjord: Oh my God, yes! When shall we have the wedding?

Now. You guys need to start making nooboos!

James: Alright, alright! Could you do a little ceremony for us?

Certainly. *clears throat* We are gathered here today, on this very average porch, to celebrate the marriage of these two people who hardly know each other’s names...

James: Okay, that’s enough! I knew I couldn’t trust you. Let’s just get it over with, okay?

There we are. Hello, Fjord.

Fjord: Um, hello. Who are you?

I’m the Watcher, dearie.

Fjord: Ooh! I’ve heard about you guys. You’re going to give me a makeover, right?

Sure. Just get pregnant quick and I’ll even give you a pretty store haircut.

Fjord: Yipee! Come on Jamie, let’s do it!

James: Please don’t call me Jamie...

Okay, Fjord, I'll give you that makeover I promised you. Let's rid you of that awful base game headband!

Fjord: Hurray!!

Fjord: Bleghh!

Okay, now the readers know you're pregnant.

Fjord: Don't you think it's a little bit weird taking picture of me while I'm throwing up?

No. It's perfectly normal.

And...

Fjord: I'm pregnant!

Keep up, sweetie, I've already got the names planned. Wanna hear my naming theme idea?

Fjord: No.

The theme is... Downton Abbey characters!

Fjord: What?!

Yeah, I'm thinking maybe Mary if it's a girl, or perhaps Anna, and for boys I was thinking of Thomas or William--

Fjord: Stop, stop, STOP! *covers ears* LALALALALLALALLALALA! I CAN'T HEAR YOU!

Okay, Downton Abbey characters it is! Let's skip to the birth!

James: Oh my God! She's having a baby! What do I do?

Panic.

James: I'm already doing that!

Fjord: It's a boy!

What's his name? Remember our agreement...

Fjord: Christopher.

What?! No, there's no Christopher in Downton Abbey! You promised.

Fjord: I did nothing of the sort! Hello, baby Christopher.

Angel?! No, no, NO!

Fjord: Honestly, Watcher. There's no need for a tantrum.

I'm not having a tantrum. Anyway, let's just skip to their toddler years.

Angel: Spare? I am not simply a spare! I am the cuter, evil twin.

Oh yes, forgot to mention. Angel is evil.

Angel: Mwahah. And I'm cute too!

Angel: Everyone loves an evil twin. Much more than they like the stupid heir. Heirs are boring. They just spend their whole lives doing boring requirements but the spares get to do fun stuff.

Actually, it's usually the other way around. If this were the Immortal Dynasty, you'd spend your life being a dynasty slave to help your older brother who'd get to live forever.

Angel: That's not fair. It's stupid and I am going to destroy all Dynasties! I will send bugs that will make their game freeze and their Sims will disappear and their files will disappear!

You are evil.

Of course, Christopher is very cute as well. Look at this little guy!
