Careers broken, world broken? - RESOLVED
« on: September 01, 2013, 02:48:18 PM »
I guess this topic is not new, but I haven´t found it.
So: What do you do when a rabbit-hole with supposed several functions loses one of them?
Example: In my case, in Aurora Skies, the Cure-All Collective rabbit hole now only shows a science lab option, hospital option is missing. My medical-career Sims cannot go to work and so forth. The same with the Peaceful Protection Agency - it now works only as a Military Base. I play vanilla, just base game plus Seasons, patch 1.50.16 (was fortunate enough not to be able to install the unlucky patch 1.55.4 so far). In Edit Town I couldn´t find options related to the functionality of RHs.
My question is - do I have to reinstall the world or is there still something I can do in Edit Town? Or something else?

What exactly do you mean by "unlucky patch 1.55.4"? Could you explain that in more detail, please.

She had some sort of issue downloading the latest patch. She feels fortunate about this because she's heard from others that this patch added a lot of bugs and whatnot. (Taken from another thread from her.) I don't think it's entirely relevant for this problem, though.

You could try replacing the mutlipurpose rabbit hole in Edit Town with an identical copy. That could solve your issue.

Also, have you exited and restarted the game?  That might help it.

Yes, totally irrelevant. I only wanted to prevent advices suggesting I should update or downdate. Thanks for the explanation I omitted to add to my post.

I am going to try that, thanks for the advice.

Thanks for the answer.
I did try. It didn´t work. I then restarted the computer, reloaded the game again - the same. Of course I also tried to play with career outfit and so forth, didn´t work either.

It seems that Aurora Skies generally has become a bit glitchy world recently for me (even completely new games), I have noticed more than usual number of abnormalities, to name just 4:
1. Sims fishing on a solid ground or trapped inside a solid ground near a pond and still fishing (various fishing spots, in various games)
2. a car parked at one moment in a bathroom, the other moment on the street and not moving - this was actually a career car, that had come for my Sim who since then was also unable to go to work - she was in Law Enforcement career track, nothing worked to get her to work (when I clicked the car, there was an option Go to work, but the Sim dropped it 1/3 of a second after it flashed; and when I clicked the respective rabbit hole, there was only the Military Base option; interestingly, she happily went to the work the day before - and this was during one playing session) (in a game I have played for about 6 Sim weeks)
3. longer than normal rendering times, not only for skins but for the objects in my home, as well as for Sims from other households than mine (in a completely new game, 1 day brand new, this was also the game with the nonexisting hospital problem)
4. a Sim dropping the go shopping (for books) action for no obvious reason - she was already in front of the bookstore, pregnant, but all fine, no discomfort, I wasn´t focusing on her at the moment, and suddenly I saw she was going home (no books bought) ... didn´t check however what´s the matter with the bookstore / dayspa RH, it was too late (the same completely new game)

I wrote this all here because it might be relevant.
Might not really be a problem of AS, but I haven´t seen this in other worlds even when playing a game enormously long (like 30 weeks or so). I am anyway intending to do a thorough clean-up, and see what happens, and also try things you suggested, people, thank you a lot.

Do you have any not yet updated mods or bad CC? Very often when people experience extraordinarily strange bugs and glitches, it's due to outdated mods or non EA CC that interfere with the game.

Of course I have bugs in my game too from time to time, but so far they've been relatively few and easily corrected. The strangest bug I've encountered so far was when a Sims 2 face suddenly appeared in the vertical portrait panel to the left on the screen. I just couldn't believe my eyes at first, I mean, how on earth could that picture have sneaked into my Sims 3 game??? Maybe it's intentional, like a little joke, or one of those "Easter eggs" that game developers sometimes include in their games just for fun? Still, it felt really strange to see it pop up like that.

I have NO mods, neither outdated nor updated, I have no CC whatsoever, I am not using cheats frequently.
Now it becomes worse and that is why I should rename the topic.
There are many Sims in that world that simply cannot go to work, if not all.
Symptoms:
1. When a carpool arrives, or I choose the option go to work any other way, the Sim puts on the appropriate uniform, the action "at work" flashes for a second and then disappears and, of course, the Sim is not going anywhere.
2. When I click the rabbit hole they work in, there is not an option "quit work" there, however they can quit job by phone. In one case a Sim in business career could hold meetings in his respective workplace (but you can hold meetings in many RHs) but still couldn´t go to work.
3. After quitting a job, they can join the same career through the interaction with the same RH. However, I am unable to adjust their rank at their re-accepted career through cheats (via enabling testing cheats and selecting "set career...") - but here I maybe only do something wrong (other options in the pie work fine, only setting the career doesn´t seem to work - I suppose when I make the choice, that particular job should immediately show in the career panel, or not? - it is simply staying the same).
Some other hint that the world may really be broken: a Sim unable to go home (neither by clicking "go home", nor "go here" - I had to digress to resetting). Also some other minor weird anomalies.
So it is either a routing issue (kids but go school flawlessly) or there is something broken or data is missing regarding careers.
Things I did (of which none had worked):
1. reload
2. clean-up (delete DCBackup and so on)
3. planning the career outfit method
4. start a new game in the same world (AS)
5. short-cut factory reset as recommended here http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/forum/index.php?topic=7507.0, with freshly installed world
Things I am positive about I didn´t do: delete anything essential, neither from Documents, nor from Program Files.
Only thing I noticed is that these things seem to have begun to happen after I attempted to patch up to 1.55.something, and the launcher was unable to complete the task.

Please if anybody has a clue, share with me. Otherwise I am positively on a verge of reinstalling.

It's only possible to change to some other career when you're using that cheat. You can't change to a higher or lower position within the career you already work in. At least that's how it is in my game, I don't know if it's the same for everybody else though.

Aah, I see. Good info. Who would have thought - it´s not after all very intuitive, the way it works. Thanks a lot for the answer.

BTW, I found out it is only Aurora Skies business, whole this problem with careers.
Also, in other ways that world doesn´t seem quite normal, I should attach pictures, but have no time.
Anyway, by far the beautifullest world so far.

Have you tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the world?

Other than that all I can think of that hasn't been mentioned is that you could completely patch your game - often and uncomplete patch will be the cause of problems (I have had that happen myself), just because it didn't complete doesn't mean the game will act as if the update was never initiated.

Since you had a problem patching you would probably have to use the super patch.

I did, and I also tried it in a fresh folder, I tested both a previous save and a completely fresh game - still the same. Trouble is it takes time to test, since you have to wait until Monday morning to see for sure, although, if a Sim does not have the option to quit job upon clicking on their working place, then that is the sign of this particulatr problem.

That is exactly what I thought might be the problem - the incomplete patch.

I might try that. Thanks for the answer.

Maybe one could try this: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/175477.page.
That advice was updated today.

So, I patched succesfully up to 1.57 (overriding perhaps an unsuccesful patch to 1.55 version), as well as reinstalled the world, as well as started a fresh game, but it still didn´t help.
What did help finally - resetting the careers in case of affected Sims by means of testing cheats enabled - switching a Sim to a different career and then switching them back to their previous career. Immediately, all the options for them at their respective work place were there as they should be, only they couldn´t go to work right away, because the game thought they had just accepted the career, and thus that their working hours began the next day. The next day came - and they went to work.
Not very systemic, but worked at least.
