Isla Paradiso and season settings
« on: August 26, 2013, 10:36:01 PM »
I just picked up IP, and after playing a few weeks, I wondered what anyone else playing (if they also have Seasons) set their seasons length at?  I eliminated winter at the start (lived in South Florida for 8 years, and never saw snow ::)), and after going though a week of autumn decided to drop that also. I am thinking 1 week of spring and 3 weeks of summer.

I just leave it on Summer all the time because it just doesn't seem right to have any other season in a tropical paradise!

Though I almost always am tempted to turn rain off otherwise it rains all. the. time. It's fine in real life, but on Sims it just seems to waste all of my Sims time just waiting for rain to stop falling. That's another story entirely. I usually max out Summer length and turn off all other seasons.

I extended summer quite a big, gave spring a short time and took out winter and gave autumn a couple of days.  Turned off rain shortly after I got the game.  Winter is cute in the aspect that the snow looks nice and there are some nice fun things to do, but it is a pain in the rear in the area of kids in school and grades.

I ended up going with 3 weeks of summer (the tropic's version of spring, summer and fall), and 1 week of spring (winter).  I also grabbed a mod from the Nraas site and set it up I can experience all the seasonal holidays at the proper time.

I tried having Spring, Summer, and Fall, but it rained every single day in the Fall, and early spring gave me snow! Whoever heard of snow in the tropics? LOL. I'm thinking of setting it to summer year around.

Branr, what mod did you pick up and what does it do?

Not to hijack this thread at all, as we usually save mod discussion for the Mods Section of this board, but I believe he's referring to Twallan's Tempest. Twallan is a mod creator at NRaas Industries, widely known for Master Controller, Overwatch and Errortrap. Their website can be found if you google NRaas, and he as a list of all the mods and what they do off to the left side of the page. :)

Edit to add: http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/forum/index.php?topic=9198.0
That is a thread of all of Twallan's mods and a brief description of each, including Tempest. :)

Seasons comes with the Seasons Expansion Pack that arrived prior to the Island Paradise Expansion Pack we're speaking about in this thread. Toggling Seasons on or off and adjusting their Length is found under the "..." button and under Options. It will only show up if you have the expansion installed. One of the tabs under Options though should have Seasons (if the Seasons expansion is installed) and Lunar Phases (if Supernatural is installed).

Best of luck, and I hope that answers your question!

You'll notice also in Options, that you can choose which weather to allow. You can uncheck snow and rain. I did both. Although it still rains from time to time, it doesn't rain every single day like it did when it was checked.

It was probably hail you're seeing, not rain, as it takes the appearance of rain without the actual water.

For a better reply, I have mine set to, I think, 5 days or so of Spring, the equivalent of winter and the rest is summer. The kind of funny thing is that I have a sim who is a lifeguard and he has to work and swim in the water regardless of how cold it is, LOL. He should have that season off like RL lifeguards do. :)
