Gardening Question: Dead Plants

Now, I noticed that when gardening some of my older plants will die. I am tending them every day but some still die. I am quite new to gardening so i need to know am i to blame or do old plants just die?

I would also like to say that i found this site very helpful in many areas especialy with the career and skill guides.

From my past gardening experience, all plants will eventually die, despite how well you take care of them. If you have green thumb you can revive them however.

All plants do die of old age, with one possible exception: Money trees. Some have reported them dying for no apparent reason before the first generation is up, but I've had them last for 3-4 generations with absolutely no problem at all. Truth is, we don't really know how money tree aging works, but except those, plants tend to die of rather quickly actually. The solution is to keep re-planting them.

Hey scottyboy, Welcome to the Forum.

I checked Carl's Gardening Guide, and didn't see your question directly addressed, but you are not to blame for your plants eventually growing old and dying.

The only plant I've not seen die off (when properly tended) is the Money Tree ...  but I can't say they never die, just that I've always tended mine and not seen one die of "plant old age." I'm sure if you didn't water it / weed it, it'd eventually shrivel up.

As MasterSiwel said, if you've a Sim with the "Green Thumb" trait, they can "revive" a dead plant, but even if it's "resurrected," the plant will die again (eventually).

If the plant is barren you can't revive it, only if it has died (i.e. died the 'first time'). Money trees do die if left unwatered and they leave bills should they do so.

Thanks for all your comments. You have been very helpful. Also iI found death seeds for death flowers but they are still growing. Do you have any opinion as to whether they will die as they are as rare as money trees.

Death flowers will die when you pick its flower. I've actually not gone so long without picking a flower, so I don't know if it dies of old age. If you have a sim with green thumbs you have the possibility of reviving the plant once more and pick its flower (so you can get 2 from the same plant), but then it is barren and can never be revived again. Death flowers can be planted to grow a new plant, but that technique is useless if you don't have a sim with the green thumbs trait. If you do have one, it can be a way of getting unlimited amount of death flowers.

I'd like to clarify about reviving dead plants.  Only the Death Flower plant can be revived by a Green Thumb Sim, and it can be revived only once.  None of the other plants can be revived.  Once plants are barren, the easiest way to get rid of them is to go into Buy Mode and delete them with the sledgehammer.  Otherwise, your Sim can also remove barren plants one by one.

No Pam. If the plant is 'dead' it can be revived (i.e. you've forgot to water it, or as with the death flower; you picked the flower). If it dies of old age, the plant is 'barren' and you can't do anything, but any plant that has just been poorly maintained should be revivable. I'm quite positive (call me 99.5% sure) I've revived several plants which weren't death flowers.

For that matter, in the Guide Carl says nothing about that only death flowers are revivable.
